Chapter 19: 19. Hope
"Jade Phosphor Serpent?"
Both Gyuutarou and Ume asked in unison. This was the first time they had heard of such a snake.
Ye Xinghan attempted to scour more information from the page, but it was fruitless. The book merely detailed the characteristics of the soul form without delving into specifics.
Ye Xinghan closed the book with a sigh, turning to Gyuutarou. "There's no further information about this soul form in the book, but I have some impressions of it. However, I can't be sure if the soul form you possess is the same as what I know."
"Anyway," he continued, "the Jade Phosphor Serpent is an incredibly venomous snake. 'Venomous' barely scratches the surface. If you can evolve it into the Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor, you could potentially destroy an entire country with its venom alone."
"That powerful?" Gyuutarou and Ume gasped, their eyes wide with amazement.
"I believe that cultivating techniques related to poison would be most suited for you. And if we can find a good demon spirit with a poison attribute, your future potential would be limitless," Ye Xinghan explained.
Gyuutarou fell silent, pondering Ye Xinghan's words. Then, with a deep bow, he expressed his gratitude, "Thank you."
"I have my own reasons for helping you. If you want to thank me, work harder to become stronger," Ye Xinghan replied, his tone both serious and encouraging.
Gyuutarou nodded slightly, his emotions barely held in check, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Ye Xinghan reflected internally, 'In the "Demon Slayer" anime, both of them met tragic ends. Even as villains, their stories moved me to tears. Now that I have the power to help them, I will. Maybe because they aren't supposed to exist in this world, I feel a strange kinship with them. Hahaha...'
'Gyuutarou has shown incredible proficiency in close combat with his sickle. Hell, he managed to kill a grown samurai in the original anime despite being just a child without proper training. With his speed and poison affinity, he's almost fated to become an assassin.'
"Don't get too excited though," Ye Xinghan added, tempering their enthusiasm. "A demon beast with a poison attribute is particularly rare in the St. Ancestral Mountain Range. Even if we find one, it would be a tough battle, likely involving sacrifices or casualties."
The St. Ancestral Mountain Range, which encircled Glory City, was predominantly home to snow wind demon beasts, a key reason why the Snow Wind Family was the strongest within the city — their supply of snow wind attribute demon spirits was virtually endless.
"Does that mean I can't become a demon spiritualist?" Gyuutarou lamented, his spirits sinking.
"Rest assured," Ye Xinghan reassured him, "to the west of the St. Ancestral Mountain Range lies the Toxic Forest, a haven for poison attribute demon beasts. However, at your current strength, going there would be suicide. But with my training regime, you won't necessarily need a demon spirit in this divine continent."
Hearing this, Gyuutarou's mood lifted, curiosity piqued about the training Ye Xinghan spoke of. As long as it made him stronger, he was eager to participate.
"When you reach the gold rank as a fighter, we'll go there together to search for a demon crystal suitable for you. But if you're impatient to become a demon spiritualist, I'll gladly buy you a silver-ranked Horned Sheep demon crystal," Ye Xinghan laughed boisterously at his own jest.
Gyuutarou just twitched his mouth, watching Ye Xinghan rolling on the floor with laughter. He'd rather stay bronze-ranked forever than become a clown of a demon spiritualist, much like how everyone viewed Nie Li's Panda as trash.
"Hahaa... huff... okay, that's enough. Let's continue. Ume, please hold this crystal and focus on pouring your energy into it," Ye Xinghan said, standing up and handing Ume the last soul crystal.
"Um...! Big brother, I'll start," Ume nodded cutely, her smile radiant.
She closed her eyes, channeling her energy into the crystal. Ye Xinghan and Gyuutarou watched in silence, their focus entirely on the crystal.
Before long, the crystal began to shine, casting a brilliant light that left both of them dumbfounded.
"AZURE!!"
