Chapter 218 - 0206: Gold Hook, Silver Hook
Chapter 218: Chapter 0206: Gold Hook, Silver Hook
The matter of the additional money in Sisi’s account had to be put on hold by Yang Ping, who could only investigate by looking at surveillance footage from the security department whenever she had time.
Technically, knowing who made the deposit was meaningless, but it was meant to provide an explanation for Sisi’s parents.
If someone had made an error and deposited the money incorrectly, they would naturally come forward to rectify it. If the depositor was a good Samaritan who wished to remain anonymous, their reasons were their own, and it was just as well that they continued to do good unobtrusively.
Director Han eventually returned to his office. The negotiations about the jade bracelet were over—they had fallen through.
Director Zhao from the Medical Affairs Department had also lost his patience. For such a minor issue, it was frankly inappropriate to constantly call on Director Han and Director Tan, who were both extremely busy with surgeries and organising training sessions, to deal with these annoying matters.
The hospital had initially offered to pay out 2,000 yuan to settle the issue. Officer Wang thought that was reasonable—it would resolve the situation. However, the family involved was unyielding, insisting that the bracelet was worth tens of thousands of yuan and demanding a whopping 300,000 yuan as compensation.
Director Zhao proposed the idea of having a third-party professional organization appraise the bracelet’s worth if they didn’t agree with the 2,000 yuan offer, yet the family adamantly refused. They were convinced that the appraisers would collude with the hospital and, being powerless, they would end up being misled.
No solutions were acceptable to them—other than a payout of 300,000 yuan!
300,000 yuan—they must be dreaming! Director Zhao, with his years of experience in the Medical Affairs Department, had encountered many rogue individuals, but none as outrageous as this one. It was pointless to continue negotiating. “No more negotiating. If you want compensation, sue us. Go to court, and whatever the court orders us to pay, we won’t hold back a single yuan. If the issue hasn’t gone through court, we won’t pay you a dime right now. Let me make this clear: our doctors didn’t do anything wrong. The patient’s limb was severely swollen, and the bracelet was restricting blood flow. The limb could have quickly died due to a lack of blood. Under such dire circumstances, and in order to save the limb, the bracelet was smashed—it’s a standard medical emergency procedure. As to whether you signed anything or not, in dire situations like these, we don’t need your signature—”
“We won’t quibble over details anymore. Sue us? Everyone knows who has the upper hand here! Can we possibly win against you? We’ll lower our demand to 180,000 yuan—not a single yuan less. If you don’t pay, don’t even think about treating patients anymore. I’ll come to your hospital every day. You, specifically, you can expect me to follow you every day to and from work.” Losing patience as Director Zhao quit negotiating, the family not only insisted but also started to threaten.
Director Zhao waved his hand dismissively, “If it hasn’t gone through court, not a single penny will be paid out, not even 1.8 yuan, let alone 180,000 yuan. Dream on! Security, call security—escort these people out!”
And so, the meeting was brought to an abrupt halt. They had hoped to offer 2,000 yuan to appease the situation, but the other party clung tenaciously to their claim, making it seem as if the doctors were in the wrong if they continued to negotiate.
Yang Ping reported the consultative meeting arranged at the People’s Hospital. Director Han nonchalantly said, “It’s just a morning. It shouldn’t cause any problems. Go ahead with your plans!”
Yang Ping was not surprised by Director Han’s breezy attitude. Director Han sat still, seemingly lost in thought, with his fingers interlocked and thumbs fiddling in circular motions.
Seeing that Director Han wanted to say something, Yang Ping asked, “Director?”
Director Han snapped back to reality: “Nothing, go ahead with your work.”
After President Liao finished the consultation, he visited the training room in the administration building for the first time.
The scene inside was indeed astonishing, given it was during daylight. He imagined that it would be even more impressive come nighttime.
There were orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, thoracic surgeons, and urologists. The majority were from orthopedics, with the entire trauma orthopedics team participating in the training. Other wards from orthopedics and other surgical departments had also assigned their best performers here for training.
From hand washing, dressing, glove applying, disinfecting, draping, incising, suturing, stopping bleeding, tying knots, retracting, to handling a suction device, all procedures were included in the training. Each item had to be practiced until the movement became second nature.
President Liao surely expanded his horizons. He watched several doctors practicing retraction techniques. Every surgical procedure, stand position, handling hand, one hand or both hands, degree of force used, and levels and depth of retraction—all had strict standards.
How many suction devices were needed, the direction from which to approach, how to coordinate absorbing blood and smoke—all these facts piqued Liao’s interest as he leaned in to observe a device handling training in greater detail. He found the suction training was impeccable.
As a senior resident doctor about to be promoted to an attending physician, he had no idea that a suction device could be operated with such proficiency.
In the simulated surgical area, red dye ejected from a tube simulated blood. The suction device cleared away the ‘blood’ quickly and precisely. This excellent visual field control in the operating area would aid the chief surgeon greatly to carry out the operation successfully.
“No, your position is wrong. You are disturbing the chief surgeon’s movements.”
“Stand straight, your head is too low. It will contaminate the surgical field and limit the chief surgeon’s area of operation.”
“You’re applying too much force on the retractors. There’s no need to strain yourself too much. You’ll only tire yourself out.”
“Remember my demonstration. Please ask me if you have any questions. You have to be perfect and skilful and form muscle memory. Your movements should not change at any time!”
Song Zimo walked among the crowd, supervising the training members, timely spotting and rectifying any mistakes. Zhang Lin and Little Five were also participating in the training. Although they were members of the training group, they were not training instructors and had to receive training like everyone else.
Over there, Director Tian was taking part in the training alongside Director Ouyang and Director Bai. Despite these directors performing surgeries well as a daily routine, conforming to the movement standards was particularly challenging for them compared to young doctors—they were simply used to their ways.
The anesthetists were training in another room. Liang Fatty’s training was different from that of clinical doctors. His main training involved tracheal intubation, lumbar puncture, various nerve block punctures, and especially intubations and punctures under various abnormal conditions.
