Chapter 190: Last Night Was Good, Wasn’t It?
Hugo flashed Mia his most charming, slightly devious smile as he leaned back into his chair, getting comfortable.
"So, tell me something interesting about yourself," he said smoothly. He had to get to know her first. Building rapport was key.
Mia, who had been quietly sipping her iced coffee, paused and blinked. "Uh… like what?"
Hugo smirked. "Like… what's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done in public?"
Mia instantly turned red. "Why do you want to know that?"
"As group members, we need to know each other properly. For educational purposes, of course."
She bit her lip, hesitating, before glancing around to make sure no one was listening. Then, with a sigh, she leaned in slightly.
"Okay, but you cannot judge me," she warned.
Hugo grinned. "No promises."
Mia rolled her eyes but continued. "So, I was at a restaurant once, and my best friend dared me to seductively bite into a banana while making eye contact with the waiter."
Hugo nearly choked on air.
She groaned. "The problem was, I didn't realize I had food in my teeth. So I was sitting there, trying to look all seductive, and the poor waiter was horrified. He just stared at me like I was some kind of lunatic."
Hugo burst out laughing. "That's gold! I wish I had seen it!"
Mia covered her face. "It was terrible! My friend even filmed it and sent it to our group chat. I still haven't lived it down."
Hugo grinned. "Honestly? Respect. That takes commitment."
Mia giggled, finally relaxing.
"Okay, my turn," Hugo said, leaning forward dramatically. This was the easiest question a person could ask him.
He had too many he couldn't even remember them all!
"Most embarrassing thing I ever did in public? I once accidentally flirted with a dude."
Of course he wouldn't bring up the orientation incident. That would be suicidal...
Mia's eyes widened. "Oh my god. No way!"
Hugo nodded solemnly. "It was a long-haired bartender. He was gorgeous. I was drunk, so I walked up, gave him my most sultry, bedroom voice, and said, 'Hey, beautiful. What's a guy like me gotta do to get a drink from a goddess like you?'"
Mia was already laughing. "NO!"
"Oh, yes," Hugo said, shaking his head. "The worst part? He played along! He winked at me and gave me a free drink."
Mia clutched her stomach. "Stop, I'm actually crying!"
They laughed for a solid minute before Mia finally calmed down, wiping her eyes.
"Okay, okay," Hugo said, grinning. "Now, serious question. Are you into guys, girls, or both?"
Mia blinked at the sudden shift but shrugged. "Both."
Hugo's brain short-circuited.
Oh my god.
He had always dreamed of sleeping with a lesbian. Or at least a bisexual girl. He couldn't believe this shy, nerdy girl would be bisexual!
This was fate. This was destiny. This was a blessing from the gods!
Then, as casually as possible, he asked, "So, do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend right now?"
Mia shook her head. "Nope."
Hugo's heart did a little victory dance around his body. His eyes lit up like two torches in a cave.
Jackpot.
"Okay, do you like anyone right now?"
In his head, he was already mentally preparing for her to say his name. Wouldn't that be nice if that happened?
Would she say it shyly? Would she look away and twirl her hair?
He was ready for it.
And then—
"I like Hilary Foxe."
Hugo spat out his drink.
EVERYWHERE.
Mia yelped and jumped back, avoiding the disaster zone. She stared at him weirdly as if not expecting his reaction.
Hugo, meanwhile, was choking and coughing, eyes wide in horror.
EXCUSE ME?!
His rival…
Wasn't a dude.
It was another girl. Another girl that he was also planning on making a move on!
Well, at least he could hopefully get a threesome in the future.
But still...
Hugo stared at Mia in betrayal.
Mia stared back, confused. "Uh… are you okay?"
Hugo wiped his mouth, his mind racing. Mia… was into Loli?
That meant… She was his competition! His rival in love!
He narrowed his eyes.
She must be stopped.
He had to protect Loli.
…But wait.
Was now the time to claim her?
If Mia was interested in Hilary, then he needed to establish dominance.
Right here.
Right now.
He took a deep breath. He was going to tell her that Hilary was his woman!
It was time.
He turned to Mia, about to say something smooth—
And then, right at that moment, Loli showed up.
Dressed in her usual baggy hoodie and beanie, Loli approached with her usual innocent expression.
Hugo noticed that as she went to sit beside him, she almost sat on his leg out of habit.
But then, mid motion, she hesitated—catching herself.
Hugo smirked.
Oh?
So even she noticed it now. She was getting addicted to sitting down on his lap! And so was he!
His voice dropped slightly as he greeted her.
"Morning, Hilary."
She glanced at him and hummed, sitting properly this time. "Morning."
Hugo leaned in slightly. "Last night was good, wasn't it?"
Loli froze.
Mia's eyes widened.
Loli turned to him very, very slowly.
Then, as if forcing herself to act normal, she cleared her throat. "I—I have something important to show you."
And with that, she dumped her massive bag onto the table.
THUD.
Hugo flinched. What the hell? Was she carrying bricks?!
He peered inside—only to find a ridiculous amount of books.
Loli crossed her arms. "I went to the library and picked up everything I could find on our topic."
Hugo blinked. Damn. She was so serious.
He grinned. "It's so easy having someone like you as vice captain." Loli blushed slightly but didn't respond.
Then—
The door swung open, and in walked Erica.
Erica, the blonde bombshell of their group, strutted in like she owned the place.
The moment she spotted Hugo, she winked and gave him a sultry smile. Hugo grinned back. He felt very good!
For a moment.
Then he noticed something. Loli, sitting beside him, was frowning. 'Uh-oh.'
Hugo swallowed. Oh shit.
Today was going to be troublesome!
