Chapter 152: Hate The Game.
Hugo followed Collins down the stairs to the underground car park, his sneakers making soft squeaking noises with each step.
The dim lighting cast long shadows, and the faint hum of distant engines filled the silence between them.
Hugo's mind raced as he tried to piece together what exactly Collins was up to. 'Why are we even going to the car park? This dude better not be pranking me. Could it be… nah, that's impossible'
He shook his head, his thoughts becoming more ridiculous by the second. 'What if he's secretly in the mafia? Or worse, what if he found a way to get the man to pay off his student loans?!'
Collins seemed oblivious to Hugo's inner panic. He was practically bouncing as he led Hugo through the maze of parked cars, his grin widening with every step.
Hugo trailed behind him, narrowing his eyes suspiciously. 'Why is he so happy? This guy looks like he just won the lottery. Or ate the last slice of pizza without sharing.'
Finally, Collins stopped in front of a sleek white car. Hugo's breath hitched the moment he saw it. It was a Benz. Not just any Benz.
Hugo froze. His jaw dropped, and his brain short-circuited. He blinked a few times, hoping his eyes were playing tricks on him. But no.
The car was still there, gleaming under the fluorescent lights. It looked exactly like his Benz.
Except it wasn't black anymore. It was white.
"What the hell?!" Hugo blurted out, stumbling forward like a man who had just seen a ghost. He hadn't expected them to fix it this fast!
But...
He pointed a trembling finger at the car, his voice rising with each word. "Who… who told them to paint my car white?!"
Collins turned to him, looking genuinely confused. "Huh? What are you talking about?"
Hugo gestured wildly at the car. "This is my car! My Benz! I paid $28,000 for this baby, and I just spent $3,500 on repairs! Who told the repair shop to change the colour?!"
Collins tilted his head, his confusion turning into amusement. "Your car? Bro, what are you even talking about?"
Hugo marched up to the car, inspecting it closely. He ran his fingers along the hood, checked the rims, and even crouched down to examine the tires.
It was definitely a Benz, the exact same model as his. "Don't play dumb, Collins! This is my car! Look, the dent on the left door is gone! They fixed it!"
Collins leaned against the car casually, his smirk growing. "First of all, this isn't your car. Second of all, what dent? And third of all…"
He pulled out a shiny key fob from his pocket and pressed a button. The Benz's lights flashed in response, confirming his ownership. "…this beauty right here? She's mine."
Hugo stared at the flashing lights, his brain struggling to comprehend what just happened.
"What do you mean, yours?!" he yelled, his voice echoing through the car park. "You bought the exact same car as me?! Are you serious right now?"
Collins chuckled, clearly enjoying Hugo's meltdown. "Relax, man. I didn't know you had a car, not to mention a Benz. Since when did you even have a car! How could I copy something I didn't know about?"
Hugo's eye twitched. 'You've got to be kidding me. How is this my life? Did the universe just decide, 'Hey, let's mess with Hugo today!'' He ran his hands through his hair and groaned.
"Who even buys a Benz on a whim?" Hugo demanded, throwing his arms up. "You've been broke for months! How could this happen?"
Collins clapped his hands together dramatically. "Well, turns out the dude's not so bad. He basically heard my birthday's coming up this weekend, so he decided to get me a little early gift." He gestured proudly at the car. "Ta-da! My new ride!"
Hugo's mouth fell open. He stared at Collins, then at the car, then back at Collins. "You mean to tell me… that guy—Mr. Killer Eyes—bought you a Benz as a birthday gift?"
Collins nodded, his grin stretching from ear to ear. "Yup. And it's fully paid off. How cool is that?"
Hugo staggered back, clutching his chest like he'd been hit by a truck. 'What kind of psycho gives someone a $28,000 car as a 'little gift'?!'
He glared at Collins, his gaze dripping with disbelief. 'Do you know how hard I had to work for mine? Do you?!'
Collins shrugged. "Hey, don't hate the player. Hate the game. Some of us are just blessed."
Hugo groaned and paced back and forth, muttering under his breath. 'This isn't fair. This is so unfair. I work hard, I struggle, I make sacrifices, and this guy just gets a Benz handed to him like it's a pack of gum. What kind of twisted reality is this?'
Says the guy who got 50 grand as his winnings from a dumb bet.
Collins laughed and threw an arm around Hugo's shoulders. "Come on, don't be salty. Look, I'll make it up to you. Drinks are on me tonight. Let's hit the club and celebrate."
Hugo raised an eyebrow. "Celebrate what?" 'The fact that the universe clearly hates me?'
Collins smirked. "Celebrate the fact that your best friend just got a Benz and is about to throw the biggest birthday party of the year. You're helping me plan it, by the way."
Hugo sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I don't even have the energy to argue with you right now."
Collins grinned and patted him on the back. "That's the spirit. Now let's go. The club's waiting, and I'm feeling generous tonight."
Hugo followed him reluctantly as they left the car park, muttering under his breath. "I need new friends. Normal friends. Friends who don't give me heart attacks every five minutes."
