Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 620: 620

After completing this mission, Lin Shen and the Celestial Master Institute once again found themselves at leisure. Lin Shen first sent Ye Xing and the others back to Giant Ring Star, while he returned to the Human Mother Planet with Wei Wufu and Ouyang Yudu.

The main goal was to investigate the situation at Gourd Mountain. Lin Shen wanted to understand what was going on at Gourd Mountain before the strange person came looking for him, then decide whether or not to return the mechanical wristwatch to the strange person.

This was the first time Ouyang Yudu had heard of a place called Gourd Mountain, and he was even more astonished to learn that it could be an entrance to the Realm King Planet.

Upon reaching the front of Gourd Mountain with Fei Zai (Fatty) by their side, they easily located the mountain. Ascending to the summit, they arrived at the cave entrance.

"How is there a hole here? I don't recall seeing it the last time I was here. Wei, do you remember this hole?" Lin Shen, not completely confident in his memory, asked Wei Wufu, pointing at the hole on the ground.

"No," Wei Wufu answered with certainty.

Lin Shen took out a Nightglow Flower and shone its light down into the pitch-dark cave. To his surprise,

the Nightglow Flower, which could illuminate even the darkness of Giant Ring Star, could not light up the cave below.

Lin Shen summoned several pets to scout the path ahead, but after they went down, there was no more sound from them. It was as if their connection with Lin Shen had been severed, and he could no longer sense their presence.

If it were not for the fact that he could still feel their lives hanging on, Lin Shen would have suspected they were dead.

"This cave is too strange. Who knows what's really inside." Lin Shen mused, not daring to get close to the cave entrance.

Ouyang Yudu squatted at the entrance of the hole and looked down for a while, then suddenly said to Lin Shen, "You just said the strange person found the mechanical wristwatch here, and without the wristwatch, he didn't have a way off the Human Mother Planet, yet he made it to Meidu Star. I found this very odd before. Do you think it's possible that this hole could be the entrance to Gourd Mountain's teleporter?"

"Now that you mention it, it really does seem possible." Lin Shen had considered this possibility before but hadn't dared to attempt it.

"I'll go down first and take a look," said Ouyang Yudu as he leapt straight into the hole.

His figure disappeared into the darkness and vanished without a trace.

"Ouyang... Ouyang... Can you hear me..." Lin Shen called into the hole several times, but there was no response.

"You stay... I'll go... look..." After waiting a while with no news from Ouyang Yudu, Wei Wufu prepared to go down and take a look.

Lin Shen quickly grabbed him, a wry smile on his face, "Let's not do a 'Gourd Brothers saving Gramps' one after another. Let's go down together and have a look."

"Okay," Wei Wufu nodded.

Lin Shen stood by the edge of the hole, counted one, two, three, and the two jumped in together.

Upon entering the hole, Lin Shen immediately felt a strong sensation of weightlessness, as if floating through the air without the need to fly on his own.

When Lin Shen once again sensed gravity, he found himself amidst a landscape of ruins.

Surrounding him was lifeless terrain and stone pathways, with an occasional glimpse of decrepit buildings in the distance.

Even from a distance, one could see that many of the buildings had already collapsed.

The stone path was covered in a thick layer of dust, and the surrounding land was utterly lifeless, devoid of plants, insects, and seemingly even bacteria—the whole planet seemed as though it had died.

Wei Wufu was right beside him, with a few pets Lin Shen had recently let in nearby; they were all safe and sound, just unable to return.

"That hole really was the entrance to a teleporter." Lin Shen saw Ouyang Yudu standing in front of a building ruin not far away.

Lin Shen and Wei Wufu exchanged glances and walked towards where Ouyang Yudu was.

"Found anything?" Lin Shen asked as he walked.

He discovered that upon this teleportation, there was no wristwatch device on his hand, which meant that they could only leave this dilapidated planet by finding a teleporter on it.

"Look at the writing here." Ouyang Yuyang said with an odd expression, pointing at the half-collapsed gateway ahead.

Lin Shen and Wei Wufu both looked up and saw that a signboard, covered in dust and hanging askew on the partially collapsed gateway; possibly due to the rope falling off, a lot of the dust had been shaken off the signboard, and they could vaguely make out a few characters beneath the dust.

"Nuwa Temple..." Lin Shen paused slightly; in the mythology of the Human Mother Planet, Nuwa was an exceedingly important deity.

According to Lin Shen's understanding, human mythology could be divided into two phases: the matrilineal clan phase and the patrilineal clan phase.

In the mythology of the matrilineal clan phase, the supreme deity was Nuwa; the myths of "Nuwa Mends the Heavens" and "Nuwa Creates Humans" corresponded to the two vital capabilities of women at the time, childbirth and weaving.

Lin Shen always thought that Nuwa symbolized an era of women's power; it was a deity created by women to consolidate their own status and highlight women's achievements.

On the Human Mother Planet, Nuwa Temples were hard to come by nowadays, but before the great disaster, they were rather common.

The key point was that this was no longer the Human Mother Planet, so why was there a Nuwa Temple here? Could it be that the aliens also had legends of Nuwa?

"It's strange, why would there be a Nuwa Temple here?" Lin Shen muttered softly.

"Let's go in and take a look; we might find something useful. I see there's nothing on this planet, which leads me to think that life here may have been completely annihilated," said Ouyang Yudu as he walked in, holding his umbrella.

The temple walls had almost entirely collapsed, and they didn't need to enter through the gate; the three of them walked around it into the courtyard and saw that most of the building had crumbled, the stone incense burner at the entrance was split in two, with incense ash scattered all around.

Relatively speaking, the main hall was still intact, with only a few broken tiles, and overall it was still quite complete.

The "Nuwa Hall" signboard was still hanging above the door, but it was covered in so much dust that it was almost unreadable; it was only with some guessing that they could make out the three characters.

Ouyang Yudu pushed the door open with his jade umbrella, and the three of them were shocked by the sight inside the hall.

The Statue of Nuwa inside the Nuwa Hall was actually hung from the roof beams, making the otherwise serene statue of Nuwa look like a hanging ghost, eerie and frightening.

"Who did this reprehensible deed?" Lin Shen frowned slightly; someone must have done it, as the statue couldn't have hung itself from a rope.

The offering table was broken in two, and the incense burner and tablet on it had fallen to the ground, also broken into pieces.

Lin Shen picked up a piece of the tablet, noticed that the break was very smooth, as if it had been cleaved into two with a single stroke.
