Suits: A Lawyer Surviving TV Chaos

Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Sheldon Gets Fired

Martin stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his new office, hands in pockets, staring blankly at the Manhattan skyline.

"Rough morning?" Rachel entered with Priya in tow, carrying an iced coffee.

"Thanks." Martin gulped the drink, the chill cutting through his frustration. "Needed that."

He turned to Priya, who gaped at the sleek space. "Well?"

"It's incredible!" Her eyes sparkled. "Billions in deals… every lawyer's dream!"

"The shine wears off," Martin muttered.

Rachel rolled her eyes. "Third reminder: stop acting like a jaded partner. You've been here a *month*."

Martin tossed her a file—Amanda's murder case. "Hit a wall. Thought a female perspective might help."

Rachel squinted at his notes. *"Neuroendocrine Dysregulation-Induced Behavioral Disassociation in Stress-Induced Females?"* She wheezed. "What is this?!"

"My… roommates have PhD friends," Martin admitted sheepishly.

Priya peeked and grimaced. "Martin, maybe spend less time with them. This is… not normal."

Before he could retort, Rachel's phone chimed. She slid a box across his desk. "Your new work phone. iPhone 2G."

Martin lit up, swiping the primitive touchscreen with nostalgic glee. "Order twenty-six more. Send two to each of my old study group—tell them this'll change the world."

Past midnight, Martin returned to the apartment to find an unexpected guest: Mary Cooper, Sheldon's mother.

"Mary!" He engulfed her in a bear hug, childhood memories flooding back—how she'd become his anchor after his traumatic rebirth into this world.

Mary patted his back. "Didn't want to bother you, sugar. But Sheldon…"

Leonard cut in: "New physics chair called Sheldon's research 'derivative.' Sheldon retaliated by proving his life's work mathematically insignificant. Got fired."

Penny added, "We hoped Mary could talk sense into him."

Martin facepalmed. "Sheldon, even if he's wrong, insults aren't—"

"He's a *philistine*!" Sheldon squawked.

Mary raised a hand—Texas-mom finality. "You'll apologize tomorrow. Then we'll see about Harvard."

As Sheldon sulked, Martin caught Mary's worried glance. Some battles even genius couldn't logic through.
