Chapter 1039: The Trial of Janvidr [Part 2]
When morning came, Chloe slowly opened her eyes.
She saw her lover's head buried in her chest, and he was hugging her in a loving embrace.
Seeing this, she couldn't help but smile, as she planted a kiss on his head.
His sleeper breaths felt a bit ticklish on her naked skin, reminding her of their night together.
Since they had a task at hand in the morning, the two of them didn't do anything too tiring the night before.
Even so, the two of them still shared an intimate moment together before going to sleep.
As the sound of birds chirping in the windows reached her ear, Chloe thought about the Trial that they would be facing soon.
Of course, they could have chosen to not take it and simply explore the Sylvan Realm. However, Ethan believed that they would need the help of the Firbolgs in the coming battles ahead.
Although they didn't know what exactly they would have to face, he still chose to take the trial, not only for their sake, but for the sake of the Firbolgs as well.
Aside from the Sylvan Realm, Chloe had learned that other Firbolg Clans and communities still thrived in Westshire, living in harmony with the Elves as well as the Fairies.
But, the Sylvan Clan was the biggest community of all, numbering in the thousands, which would be a great addition to the Alliance, who planned to resist the invaders from the other planes of existence.
Chloe believed that Ethan was right in his decision, so she decided to support him.
If he wanted to take the Trials, then she would do everything in her power to ensure that they passed it, earning them the recognition of the Sylvan Clan.
Half an hour later, Ethan finally stirred. However, he still pretended to be asleep and even buried his head closer to Chloe's soft chest, making the young lady smile faintly.
"You big baby. You're still not satisfied after last night?" Chloe asked in a teasing tone as she lightly patted Ethan's head. "It's morning, so we should prepare for the trial."
"Ten more minutes," Ethan replied and even playfully nibbled the pink tip inside his lips, making Chloe feel helpless.
In the end, she allowed him to do what he wanted until he was satisfied.
Ten minutes later, he reluctantly pulled back from that soft and fragrant place before kissing the young lady's lips, greeting her a good morning.
Half an hour later, they left their room and met Lady Arawina in the living room, who was just about to go and wake them up.
"Breakfast is ready," Lady Arawina said. "Did the two of you have a good rest?"
"We did," Ethan replied. "Thank you for your hospitality, Lady Arawina."
"Having guests after hundreds of years is a blessing," Lady Arawina replied. "Now, come and join me to eat."
The breakfast that Lady Arawina prepared was a simple one. It was berries and porridge, which was surprisingly delicious.
After breakfast, Lady Arawina once again asked them if they were willing to take the Trial of Janvidr, and this time Ethan and Chloe both nodded their heads in affirmation.
"Good." Lady Arawina smiled. "Please follow me."
The three of them left the Great Shaman's house and headed North.
They didn't have to walk this time.
Lady Arawina lightly tapped her staff on the ground. A moment later, a giant root emerged from the ground, lifting the three of them and passing them to the nearest tree, whose branches moved to take them.
Ethan and Chloe were pleasantly surprised as the trees inside the Fortress all worked together to send them to the north end of the Fortress, where a Stone Stele stood tall and proud.
Chloe looked at the ancient runic symbols and translated them, so Ethan could understand.
"Janvidr, the iron forest where the shadows of wolves dance, whispers secrets only the daring dare to hear," Chloe said, which earned her a look of praise from the Great Shaman of the Sylvan Clan.
"You are very knowledgeable about our language, Chloe." Lady Arawina smiled. "As expected of the High Priestess of Lia Fail. This is the entrance that leads to the Realm of Janvidr, home to the Giantess who gave birth to monstrous wolves with the bloodline of Fenrir.
"In order to pass the test, you must either gain her approval or tame one of the Wolves which are known to be very aggressive monsters. Only by doing so will the path that leads you back here appear, signifying that you have passed the Trial of Janvidr."
Ethan frowned. "Does that mean that if we fail the Trial, we will not be able to return here?"
"The Trial lasts for a week," Lady Arawina explained. "If you don't pass it, you will automatically be ejected from the Realm of Janvidr, and you will appear in front of the Stone Gate that protects the Sylvan Realm.
"Of course, you may enter it once more if you wish and see us again. In fact, you can even take the Trial as many times as you like, granted that you still haven't given up after the first try."
Lady Arawina then started to chant, making the runic symbols on the Stone Stele to glow and fly out of its surface.
These symbols then merged together, creating a red gate, which Ethan and Chloe assumed would lead them to the Realm of Janvidr.

"One last piece of advice," Lady Arawina said. "My master once told me that the Giantess has a very short temper. There's a possibility that she will immediately order her Wolf Children to attack. All of these wolves are at least three to four meters tall, with the Giantess twice their size.
"If you ever feel that your lives are ever in danger, feel free to run and hide and wait for the time limit to arrive. At that time, you will be ejected from Janvidr and returned to our world safe and sound."
Ethan and Chloe thanked Lady Arawina for her concern.
The two of them then held each other's hands as they walked toward the red gate together.
Whatever lay on the other side, Ethan would do his best to ensure that Chloe would be safe from harm.
While he was confident in his strength, he was self aware and therefore wasn't overconfident.
He would choose to attack or retreat depending on the situation.
Without any hesitation, the two teenagers passed through the red gate, leaving the Sylvan Realm behind.
"Tirëa na Vilya yo mella," Lady Arawina said softly. "I pray that we meet again soon."
(A/N: May Fortune of the winds be with you.)
The Great Shaman then waved her hand, closing the red gate to prevent any accidents from happening.
It had been hundreds of years since someone had challenged the Trial of Janvidr. Not all Firbolgs who challenged it were able to return.
The majority of them had failed, and some even lost their lives in the process.
It was a trial of blood, courage, and luck.
This was why those who managed to pass this trial were highly regarded by the Sylvan Clan, and they believed the passers to be ones who were blessed by the world.
Lady Arawina knew that hiding in the Sylvan Realm would not keep them safe once the invaders from the other world broke past the weave.
A path that evaded the Defenders of the Land of Saraqael, who were keeping Midgard safe since the Realm of Asgard all fell into ruin.
