LGHTNOVELBOOK Chapter 29: Retreat
All 4 of them turned to me and Saw, and we all knew what would happen.
"He's probably already sent off intel." Ahsoka said, referring to the probe droid.
"And even if it didn´t, they´d know when and where their droid was shot down." I said.
"Hmmm. Well, we cannot remain here anymore. They are not yet ready to fight them in open Battles, nor do we have the numbers." Obi-Wan stated, and Anakin nodded, stepping forward.
"I agree, Saw. Do you have any specified retreat point?" Anakin asked Saw, and he looked sort of embarrassed.
Oh great.
"This was our retreat point..." He said slowly, and I sighed.
"Do you know of any suitable area?" I asked him, and he nodded.
"Yes, there's an abandoned village a click north, we could retreat there." He said, and Rex nodded, agreeing with the retreat point.
"Very good, Saw, Rex. Gather the men, and begin evacuating the base. Gather all our supplies and begin retreating." Anakin said. "And gather 15 of your best men, we´ll form the rear-guard." Anakin said, and Saw nodded. Rushing off with Rex.
"Obi-Wan and I will form defensive positions. Ahsoka, take Vaughn and scout for droid parties, deal with any probe droids." Obi-Wan said and Ahsoka nodded, turning to look at me.
I grabbed a DC15A from one of the weapon racks as I nodded, and with that. We both ran off into the forest, heading towards the capital. Whereas the droids would likely come from.
Ahsoka took the lead, jumping into the trees and travelling high, while I rushed down on the ground, barely keeping up with her as she jumped around.
After a few minutes of running, my sensors. A small electronic sensor on my right hand, sensed a disturbance, and due to the rural area. It meant droids.
I stopped as I put my hand into the air. And Ahsoka sensed me stopping, and as such turned to face me. Wondering what was up, and seeing my hand. She immediately crouched down, keeping low.
I focused on my sensor, manipulating its mechanism as I got a result, the general direction. And with that, I opened my palm, before aiming it straight at the disturbance, after that I held up 3 fingers, signalling 3 hundred meters.
And so with that, I climbed up into the tree, crouching down low beside Ahsoka.
"Approaching, faster than any B1 or B2." I said, and she nodded. Getting serious.
That meant, it was either a probe droid, a Droideka or a speeder.
As the disturbance came closer, namely 200 meters, 100, 50, 30 and so on, I marked it with my fingers, and at 30 meters, we saw the basics of the disturbance through the heavy treetops.
3 Destroyers, heading straight towards the base.
"We need to stop them, the rebels won't be able to resist them, not yet." I said in a whisper, and Ahsoka nodded. Agreeing with them.
"At 20 meters, take out one of them, I´ll engage them in close combat." She said, as she took out her lightsabers, though not activating them yet.
I nodded, as I raised my DC15A, pressing a side button, which loaded up a heavier shot, enough to take out a Droideka if my aim was true.
I quickly found an opening through the forest, and I pressed my chin to the weapon, it was harder to aim due to my lack of a HUD, but it would work.
And as the droids passed the point, I held fire.

2 of them passed, and I saw the third approaching in the corner of my eye, and as soon as it reached my line of sight, I opened fire. 3 shots rang out, 1 heavy and 2 normal ones.
The first hit, in the centre of the Droideka, while the second hit as well, though the droid was already destroyed at that point, while the third was absorbed by one of the other 2 Droideka´s, having halted and activated their shields.
Both of them turned their muzzles towards me, and opened fire. Forcing me to evade to the right, by jumping down to a thick branch beneath me, before I evaded to the right, jumping behind the even thicker main body of the tree, being safe. For now.
And at the same time, Ahsoka, whom had been hiding, let herself down from one of the branches above them, appearing between them, as she stuck her lightsabers into the shields, before activating them, killing both of them.
The disturbance seen by the sensor was heavily lowered, but I saw it was still there, meaning another bot.
However, before I could react. I saw a black shadow out of the corner of my eye, as it jumped straight at me, my instincts kicked in, as my head evaded a few centimetres to the left, as the hand of the shadow landed there.
A black-grey, droid hand.
I quickly turned towards the source, to see a commando droid. I didn´t even let my mind process it as I slipped to the side, jumping onto another branch, as a slash appeared on the tree bark, whereas I had just been, coming from another Commando Droids.
"Commando Droids!" I bawled with all my might, as I raised my DC15A, firing at the Commando Droid with a sword, whom had jumped high to get to me, and he was falling towards me, his sword raised high.
But, even Commando Droids couldn´t move in the air, and their armour wasn't invincible.
At least not invincible to tank 5 shots from a DC15A. I barely managed to kill it, but I couldn´t get out of the way, as the droid landed upon me. It's weight forcing me to fall down from my current branch, 5 meters down towards the ground.
I lost my DC15A in the fall, but it escaped my mind as I felt a heavy impact on my back, however my head was mainly safe. As I had rolled into a ball, however it still hurt as fuck.
I barely managed to unwrap myself, and push the Commando Droid off me, to see the first Commando Droid falling as well, his blaster rifle in one hand as he shot at me.
I grabbed the downed Commando Droid, using its armor to tank 3 of the shots, before rolling out of the way as he landed.
Mid roll, I reached into my holster and retrieved both of my pistols, and as I stood up in a crouch, I aimed both forward and opened fire.
The droid, to its respect, began weaving in and out of my attacks. But I had fought many of its kind before, and I completely halted any advances it attempted, and after 30 shots, 15 by each pistol. A total of 8 hit, 4 critical and 4 minor hits. Ending that droid as well.
However, I didn´t relax as I turned towards Ahsoka, only to see her finish of her last droid, by activating her lightsaber hilt, which was positioned at the droids head, and activating it. Piercing it.
And around her, laid 7 Commando Droids.
She was wheezing in and out, clearly exhausted. Perhaps due to her misuse of the force, which could be seen by 2 of the droids, clearly destroyed by force crush. And 3 others having blunt damage, the result of a force push or telekinesis likely.
"Commander, are you alright?" I asked her as I rushed up to her, both of my pistols still unsheathed as I remained on guard.
She fell onto one knee, as she struggled to stand.
"I am, but just let me rest for a bit." She said, but I shook my head. We couldn´t remain here.
"We can't, they'll send reinforcements. We have to move." I said, and she nodded, understanding my reasoning. Before she attempted to stand up, only to fall back on her arse.
"Just give me a few seconds, and I´ll be back up." She said, but I shook my head.
"We have to move, Commander. I´ll carry you." I said, and she prepared to refute, not wanting to entertain the option of being carried.
"I will not leave you, Commander. So either I carry you, or I will be forced to contact General Kenobi." I said, and her eyes widened. She clearly didn´t want them to know she was being carried, so being carried secretly by me was likely her only option.
"Fine." She said, and with that. I holstered my pistols, before letting her jump onto my back, as I began running back to camp.
