Chapter 141: Bastion Burn His Blood Essence
A ragged breath escaped Bastion's lips as he stood in the scorched battlefield, sweat dripping from his brow as he caught a jarring sight on his peripheral vision where he saw Lucan's lifeless body, lying far behind Cain.
His once-proud young master had been reduced to a silent, motionless form as he had met his end at Dante's hands. The realization struck Bastion like a physical blow, draining the heat from his face before an even fiercer wave of wrath filled the air in the surroundings.
What hurt even more was his failure as he had promised to protect Lucan above everything else. For years, he had served the young master's family, honing his sword skills and flame techniques to ensure he could guard him from any danger. And now, Lucan was dead. Dante had claimed that life before Bastion could save him.
Cain noticed the subtle shift in Bastion's posture, including the trembling hands, the tension in his legs, the swirling of fire that intensified around his body. The air became denser, infused with the stifling smell of sulphur.
His blue eyes narrowed, and both clones appeared to share his wariness. They had already forced Bastion on the back foot. They had cornered him with excellent teamwork, chipped away at his defense, and inflicted multiple wounds. Now, something was different as it had infinitely became more dangerous.
Bastion's voice was raw with hatred. "You blocked me while Dante murdered my master." He tightened his grip on the sword hilt. His knuckles had turned pale. "I swear to god I'll tear you apart."
Before Cain could respond, Bastion closed his eyes briefly. A silent ripple passed through his body, creating an unsettling silence before a startling explosion of strength.
His aura changed from a bright orange flame to a deeper, blood-like crimson. The ground beneath him shattered, causing stones to tremble and lift as they floated above it.
'Oh, now it has become interesting.' Cain grinned as he watched Bastion burn his blood essence.
Because the scene was too familiar. Lucan had made a similar last stand against Dante, only to be defeated. However, Bastion, who possessed higher expertise and deeper reserves, had a far more devastating effect when he tapped into this forbidden power.
The fire aura about him expanded, doubling—no, nearly tripling in size and illuminating the surrounding in a furious red glow. A swirling tornado of cinders and sparks whirled around him, bearing the acidic odor of charred blood.
Cain and his two clones tensed at once. They could all see the signs: Bastion's strength was about to surge, but at a high cost.
Cain wondered if the man's mental clarity might also waver under the strain. And yet, from the madness burning in Bastion's eyes, it was clear that reason had been pushed aside. Only vengeance mattered now.
A savage grin curled Bastion's lips, revealing his teeth. "I couldn't protect him," he spat. "But at least I can avenge him."
The transformation was not only physical, but also spiritual. Beneath the crimson aura, Bastion's muscles expanded subtly, veins pulsing a ferocious red.
His blade, engulfed in flames, began to emit an unholy radiance as scorching waves of heat that distorted the air around it. When Bastion looked up again, his gaze fixed on Cain as there was no hesitation, no fear, only a single-minded resolve to kill.
Without warning, Bastion charged forward. The speed caught Cain off guard.
'He's almost twice as fast…maybe more.' Cain thought to himself.
Cain barely managed to raise his Demonic Barrier on time. A tremendous clang shattered the dome of foxfire. Cracks appeared on its surface, and the protective shield exploded into dying flames before completely collapsing.
Bastion pressed the attack. He rotated into a diagonal slash aimed directly at Cain's collarbone. Cain's right clone—Clone B, which possessed 90% of his stats immediately intercepted with a foxfire blade created from Advanced Foxfire.
Boom!
The blades collided in a fiery explosion of crimson sparks and orange flames. Yet now, Bastion's raw force was so immense that the clone was forced off balance. The foxfire blade flickered, struggling to hold against the wave of scorching heat.
"Die!" Bastion roared, swinging a backhand slash toward the clone's neck.
Reacting in the nick of time, Cain charged forward, taking advantage as he intended to throw Bastion off. He launched a precision Ice Spike at Bastion's side.
However, Bastion barely spared the sudden spike a glance. He stomped the ground, summoning a surge of flame from below as he used his [Cinder Thrust] skill that reduced the ice to steaming water droplets before it could pierce him.
Just then, Clone A attacked from above, creating a swirling disc of foxfire in midair and tossing it downward like a flaming chakra. It caught Bastion's cape, scorching it and forced him to move aside.
But even that was only a minor inconvenience to him. Bastion then responded with a powerful upward slash, unleashing a wave of pressurized flame that soared skyward, forcing the airborne clone to duck.
The abrupt onslaught of moves lasted mere seconds, yet in that short span, Bastion had shattered one of Cain's barriers, nearly dismantled a clone's defense, and destroyed an ice spike with minimal effort. The doubling of his stats was breathtaking and terrifying.
Subsequently, Bastion clenched his fist as he channeled his energy into his gauntlet, creating a swirling spiral of flames ignited around his left arm.
Looking at Bastion that had already wanted to make another move, Clone B immediately attempted to circle around behind him, but Bastion flicked his gaze that way.
With a one-handed slash, he released a wave of condensed flame, a technique similar to Lucan's own sword arts but sharper.
The clone instinctively created another Demonic Barrier, but the increased flames tore through it, sending the clone falling back, wisps of foxfire trailing like torn cloth.
Cain gritted his teeth. He realized that while Bastion's defense wasn't impenetrable, his increased offense was powerful enough to overcome Cain's normal methods. Read exclusive content at My Virtual Library Empire
The combination of three of them had briefly put Bastion on the defense, but now the situation felt reversed—Bastion was the unstoppable force, while Cain struggled to keep up.
