Chapter 5: The Challenge of Music

Two months had passed since the incident in the forest, and Cale had finally completed his recovery. Along with regaining his health, his "house arrest", which had been strictly imposed by his father and sister, was finally lifted.

That day, Cale spoke with his father to ask for permission to go to the shopping district with Ameri and Kira. They needed to buy supplies for their new companion. Henri, seeing no reason to refuse, agreed with a smile, and the three of them set off in a carriage toward their destination.

During those two months, Ameri had grown especially attached to Kira, constantly playing with him and spoiling him. Now, Cale had to divide his attention between Kira and Ameri, or one of the two would get jealous and throw a tantrum. But far from annoying him, Cale found the dynamic adorable.

A Day in the Shopping District

Upon arriving at the shopping district, Cale led them directly to a pet store. There, he bought all the essential supplies for Kira's care: grooming products, food bowls, special omnivore-friendly meals, and finally, a bracelet engraved with Kira's name in the shape of a lightning bolt.

As they left the shop, Ameri's gaze landed on a plush toy store, and her interest was immediately piqued. Deciding to check it out, they went inside.

While Ameri wandered through the store looking for something she liked, Cale noticed that Kira had completely frozen in place, staring at a plush toy shaped like a mushroom.

Cale approached with a knowing smile.

—Do you like it? —he asked, watching as Kira wagged his tail excitedly.

—If you want it, I'll buy it for you.

Kira, ears perked and tail wagging wildly, nodded enthusiastically.

After Ameri finally found something she liked, they paid for everything and decided to stop by a nearby café.

Kira happily walked beside them, carrying his new mushroom plush in his mouth, drawing the attention of many passersby. The people around them couldn't help but feel a mix of admiration and envy, utterly captivated by the sight of the adorable group. Ameri, slightly embarrassed, lowered her gaze, while Cale proudly smiled, enjoying the attention.

A Conversation Over Tea

At the café, they ordered tea and pastries, while Kira got a special meat dish.

As they enjoyed their meal, they chatted about various topics, until Ameri brought up something important.

—Cale, tomorrow I'll be starting noble etiquette classes to prepare for my society debut —she sighed—. I've been reading a book on proper manners, and it's incredibly boring. I can't wait to see your face when it's your turn to suffer through it like me.

With a mischievous smile, she reached out and pinched her little brother's cheek playfully.

—Mmm… Since when did you turn into a grandma who enjoys pinching cheeks? —Cale protested, rubbing his face.

—Who are you calling a grandma, you idiot brother? —Ameri pouted before giving him a light smack on the head.

—Ow! Watch your strength, you gorilla! —Cale muttered under his breath, still rubbing his head.

—What did you just say? —Ameri asked, raising an eyebrow.

—Nothing, nothing! —Cale quickly responded, raising his hands in surrender.

Wanting to change the subject, he brought up something else.

—Tomorrow, I'll also be starting my violin lessons. I still don't know who my teacher will be, but I'm excited to finally play the violin you gave me.

Ameri's face lit up with pride.

—I'm really happy to hear that, Cale. Let's both do our best!

Leaning forward, she placed a gentle kiss on his forehead.

—Hehe, of course, sister.

The Arrival of a Legendary Mentor

That night, after spending some time with their father, they all went to bed early.

The next morning, Cale woke up early and dressed in a formal suit. He was excited to meet his new mentor, though no one had told him who it would be.

Standing beside his father at the mansion's entrance, Cale waited eagerly for his instructor's arrival.

Ten minutes later, an elegant carriage stopped in front of the gates. The doors opened, and from inside stepped a tall man with green hair and a single horn protruding from his forehead. His attire was that of a concert musician, perfectly tailored to his sophisticated demeanor.

Cale's eyes widened in shock when he recognized the man—he was none other than Poro Amduscias, one of the Thirteen Crowns, a demon of the same rank as his father.

Poro approached with a slow, confident stride, his lips curling into an arrogant smirk.

—Henri, so you're the one who requested that I teach your little brat to play the violin? —he scoffed—. I'm only doing this because I owe you a favor. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste my time here.

Henri was about to respond, but Cale interrupted him with a polite smile.

—My warmest greetings, Lord Poro. It is truly an honor to learn the art of music from someone as renowned as yourself. But allow me to remind you… I may be a "brat," but even a master can be surpassed by his student.

Poro let out a strange chuckle, amusement flashing in his golden eyes.

—Oh, oh, oh… So, you've got guts, huh? But I don't accept students easily. What makes you think I'll take in a brat like you?

Cale, unfazed, simply grinned.

—Let's make a bet. You set a challenge for me, a goal I have to achieve within a certain time during our lessons. If I succeed, you'll accept me as your student and take my training seriously. But if I fail… you won't have to waste any more of your time with me, and I'll find another instructor.

Poro's eyes gleamed with intrigue, clearly entertained by the idea.

—Interesting, kid. Who would I be to refuse a little game that might make my stay here less dull?

Without another word, he entered the mansion, heading straight for the practice room, which the servants had prepared. Once inside, he pulled out a violin from thin air, his grin widening as he tuned the instrument effortlessly.

—Alright, brat. —He held the violin with elegant precision—. It's time to begin your torture.

Cale smirked to himself.

He didn't know exactly what he had gotten himself into, but he was more than ready to face it.
