Chapter 7: Chapter 7
Midterms at Aurexion College weren't just exams- they were death trials with grading curves. When magic and science are part of your curriculum, studying takes a backseat to not dying. This year's midterm? Interdimensional Incident Simulation.
The professors called it a "controlled learning experience." We called it "another doomsday of chaos"

"Alright, team," I said, sprawled across the dorm couch. My new gadget gun rested on the coffee table, gleaming ominously under the light. "Tomorrow's the big day. You ready?"
"Ready?" Nerath snapped, flexing his enhanced arms like he was trying to intimidate the furniture. "Do I look ready? They said there'd be dragons, Laz. Dragons!"
"There's always dragons," I said, waving him off. "Besides, you've got that new body-strengthening magic. You're basically invincible."
"Basically isn't good enough!" Nerath growled.
Talonis adjusted the straps on his bag of gadgets, muttering, "We'll be fine. Probably."
"Probably doesn't scream confidence, Tal," Nerath said.
"Well, I'm the one with a mana pool smaller than a puddle" Talonis shot back, holding up one of his gadgets, a sphere with blinking lights. "But at least I'm resourceful"
"Boys," I interrupted, pulling my feet off the table. "Focus. We've got firepower- literally, and I've got wind magic now. Plus, Mom's fancy new gun~"
Nerath raised an eyebrow. "Does that thing even work?"
"Of course, it works," I said, picking it up and spinning it theatrically. "It shoots lightning and poison bullets. The only thing it doesn't do is make coffee"
"Shame," Talonis muttered.

The Simulation Chamber was massive- an arena that could morph into whatever nightmare scenario the professors cooked up. Today, it looked like a jungle, complete with glowing vines, floating rocks, and ominous shadows that made even the plants look like predators.
"Alright, students," Professor Vexlor announced, hovering above us on his arcane board. "Retrieve the Quantum Core at the jungle's center. Beware the creatures, traps…and each other. Only one team gets full marks."
Before we could complain, the ground shifted, and we were teleported into different parts of the jungle.
.
.
.
We landed in a clearing surrounded by eerie vines that pulsed like veins.
"Step one," I said, brushing dirt off my jacket, "don't die. Step two, get the Core. Step three, look amazing doing it"
"Your priorities are messed up," Talonis said, scanning the area with his holo-gadget. "The jungle's messing with tech."
"I'm the tech," Nerath said, rolling his shoulders. His body seemed to shimmer as he activated his strengthening magic. "Just point me at the bad guys"
"Oh, don't worry," I said, loading my gun with poison bullets. "The bad guys'll find us first."
As if on cue, a low growl echoed through the clearing. A creature emerged from the shadows- a panther-like beast with glowing blue spikes down its back.
"Aw, it's kinda cute," I said.
The panther hissed, and the spikes crackled with electricity.
"Less cute," Talonis muttered, pulling out a gadget that looked like a stun grenade.
"Alright, Nerath," I said, stepping aside. "Show us what you've got."
"Finally," Nerath said, grinning. He charged the panther, his enhanced legs launching him forward like a rocket. His fist connected with the creature, sending it skidding across the clearing.
The panther roared, its spikes glowing brighter. It lunged at Nerath, claws out, but he caught it mid-air, slamming it into the ground.
"Who's the alpha now?" Nerath taunted.
"Boo-! Cringe~" I laughed and taunted him jokingly.
"Hah-?! Says the one who keeps talking with the air-!!"
"Hey~ respect 'em, they my secret"
"Careful," Talonis said, tossing the stun grenade. It exploded with a bright flash, and the panther screeched, disoriented.
I took aim with my gun, firing a poison-laced lightning shot. The bullet struck the panther, and it collapsed, twitching.
"Teamwork," I said, blowing imaginary smoke off the barrel of my gun.
.

.
'Now, dear readers, I know what you're thinking: Laziel, why does Nerath get all the cool fights?" To which I reply, "I let him. Gotta let the tank feel useful, right?"
"See?! He's talking with the air again?!" Nerath complained as I laughed out loud.
.
.
.
After several encounters- including a swarm of glowing mosquitoes that I'm trying to forget- we reached the jungle's center. The Quantum Core floated above a pedestal, pulsing like a heartbeat.
"Alright," I said, stepping forward. "This is where we-"
"Not so fast!"
A voice rang out, and another team stepped into view. Their leader was a smug-looking guy with white hair, flanked by a girl wielding a staff and a guy with glowing gauntlets.
"Well, well," Smug Guy said, smirking. "Looks like we've got competition."
"Fantastic," Nerath muttered. "More people to punch."
"Easy, big guy," I said, raising my gun. "Let's not start a fight we can't win."
"Can't win?" Talonis whispered. "You've got three magical elements, a high-tech gun, and a walking fortress on our side!"
"And you," I added, grinning.
"Don't remind me," Talonis said, sighing.
Smug Guy's team moved closer, their weapons ready. "Why don't you hand over the Core and save yourselves the embarrassment?"
"Or," I said, taking aim, "we can do this the fun way."
