Chapter 59: Field Trip
The weeks had gone by normally. The events after the Sports Festival were nothing short of brain-irritating normalcy that for the first time in his time back in Japan, Izuku had been craving a good fight.
It wasn't this bad during the Sports Festival, what with the spectacle ongoing with the various contestants and him being one of them. But with the inaction over the weeks, along with the lack of spars since most of his classmates were busy preparing for the midterms exam that would take place before their internships, it was no wonder why Izuku was getting antsy.
Sighing on his desk, Izuku slumped down as he groaned out his issues. Said groaning garnered attention from his classmates, most notably, Tsu.
"What's the problem, kero?" She stood in front of him, head tilting to the side for a bit as her frog-like lips exuded curiosity.
"Eh, nothing much. Just itching for a fight." Izuku sighed again. "No offense to all of you, it's just… The spars aren't doing much."
"None taken. I doubt any one of us could take you on, after what you showed in the Sports Festival, kero." She shivered a bit, the memory of the basic fireball that looked like a mini-nuke ingrained deep into her memory. "Just… Don't point your fireballs at any of us, okay?"
"Sure." Izuku shrugged, his nonchalance washing off of him in droves, before he perked up a bit. "Unless, one of you in the class is willing to fight me while using my Pyromancy?"
Immediately, every single person in the class stood ramrod straight as they shook their heads. Hell, even Katsuki wasn't that keen on fighting him when he had a mini-nuke on hand. The sight caused his mood to dampen even more, his head face planted on the desk once more.
Tsu had already gone back to her seat, the frog-like student waiting for the next teacher to arrive, as with his other classmates. Lo and behold, Aizawa arrived with his yellow sleeping bag and told the class to quiet down so he could get some shut eye.
Today was another day… And he hated it…

"Alright class, I have an announcement." Aizawa said as he stepped into the room, coffee in hand.
Another day of monotony, and Izuku was starting to twitch with irritation. However, Aizawa's words made his hopes soar – at least for a moment.. Aizawa usually wasn't one for announcements, but when he did, it was almost always momentous.
"Later this afternoon, we will be going on a trip to one of the facilities in U.A. This will count as your heroic studies for the day." Aizawa said as gulped down a cup of coffee he had brought in one sitting. "Using your hero costumes is non-mandatory, however, we encourage you to use them to get more experience in a rescue environment."
"Wait… Did you say rescue?" Yaoyorozu raised her hand, an inquisitive look on her face.
"Yes." Aizawa nodded dully. "We've mostly been teaching you the basics in combat. What to do when someone wants to punch you, what to do if they have a weapon, etcetera, etcetera… However, the core of being a hero is ultimately, rescue. Saving those in need – whether from external threats or their own reckless decisions. Today will be that day. But take note, even if today is the first time you're all going to be drilled with rescue, don't expect us teachers to make it easy."
His words got the class talking amongst each other, some with bright grins on their faces, and others with slight frowns. Izuku, meanwhile, had his hopes crash down deep into the caverns of his soul as he mourned the loss of some good ol' fist to fist action.
Oh well, at least there was going to be action. Just because it was rescuing people – or robots because he doubted Nezu would allow real live people to be put in dangerous positions just so some brats could learn what not to do while trying to save them – it didn't mean that there wasn't going to be some punching involved.
Who knows, maybe one of the scenarios would have a teacher pose as a villain holding someone hostage and they have to rescue said hostage while pummelling the villain into a living vegetable… Okay, maybe that was a bit extreme for Japan, but the point still stands.
"Anyways, I'd give out more about the trip later this lunch. For now, all of you shut up while I get some shut-eye." And as Aizawa does during homeroom, he whipped out his yellow sleeping bag and morphed into a caterpillar.
Izuku smirked at that. Never change, Aizawa. Never change.

The last class of the morning came to an end, and most of his classmates slumped over. For some reason, it felt like the teachers knew about the rescue bit later in the afternoon, and wanted to make the students suffer for a bit before the true suffering began. Izuku couldn't help but snort at the fact. This was just peak U.A. at this point.
If the students aren't doing their best because they wanted to save their energy for a class later in the day, that wasn't giving Plus Ultra vibes, now was it?
"Maaan… That math quiz was something, huh…?" Kirishima sighed, his sharp teeth chomping on a cookie he had procured from his bag.
"You can say that again… My brain hurts just from remembering." Ashido moaned, fingers rubbing at her temple.
"Really? I know you two are probably in the bottom when it comes to mathematics, but seriously?" Mineta looked at the two with raised eyebrows, a smug smirk lining his lips.
"Shut it, grape head." Ashido scowled, her yellow orbs piercing deep into the diminutive teen's soul.
"What? Just saying." Mineta didn't look apologetic. Hell, he looked even more smug. That was something Izuku could respect.
"Anyway, wanna get something to eat?" Kirishima pushed himself off of his desk as a bright grin overtook his features. "I doubt Aizawa is gonna let us wait so we might as well get goin'."
And just like a tide, Kirishima's words put class 1-A into high gear, with all of them scrambling to get out of the room and rushing to the cafeteria. The meal was quick, with nary a student popping even a bit of conversation as they devoured their food like rabid animals. Once they were done, they immediately beelined for their classroom, garnering no small amount of confusion from the other students. But noticing them being hero students of class 1-A, under the supervision of Aizawa himself, they all just shrugged and went about their business.
With their lunch out of the way, the students sat silent, waiting for the time Aizawa came. They didn't utter a peep, and for a second, Izuku thought he was inside a morgue with how dead silent the room was, only for it to be put to rest as the door opened and in came Aizawa.
"I see you've all finished lunch and came back early." His face was his regular indifferential look, eyebags still prominent as if he was fighting off the lack of sleep with sheer will. "Acceptable. As I have said before, we will be going on a trip. Ready your costumes – or PE uniform if you opted out of using them today – and meet me at the front of the building."
His piece said, Aizawa left the room, but not before clicking a button on a remote which caused the locked lockers to hiss and open themselves. Some students hesitated, debating whether to wear their costumes. In the end, style won out, even if their first drafts were wildly impractical. At least they'll be able to get some feedback as to how to improve their costumes when they get back.
They headed out of the room as one class, also being careful to arrange their desks and lockers before going out since they were students of the school, not barbarians. Outside, Aizawa stood waiting beside the bus that would take them to their destination.
"I see you all chose your costumes. Let's hope they don't slow you down." Aizawa's dry quip caused some of the students to twitch at the verbal jab. "Be sure to note down what your costumes are lacking in the following hours. Trust me, you do not want to make mistakes when you're out on the field. Now, get on."
And in old Aizawa fashion, he was the first to get on the bus with nary a care in the world. Immediately, Iida was quick to organize their entrance into the bus to ensure a smooth procedure. Not that it mattered as when the first student climbed aboard, the seats of the bus were arranged with space in mind.
With the students on board, the bus driver was given the go-ahead to drive and off they went. To be honest, Izuku wasn't that excited, but at least there was something new to look forward to.

"Gotta say, Midoriya. You rockin' that knight in shining armor look you got." Kaminari grinned as he looked over Izuku's entire costume. It wasn't that different from the first iteration, however, with some help from Hatsume – the support student that had helped with Iida's costume get some more bang for his buck – it managed to look pretty shiny. Like, reflective shiny.
It gleamed underneath the sunlight, and there were some who reflexively closed their eyes as he passed by. Useful with combat scenarios, but not so much with stealth. But then again, who would bother with stealth when wearing heavy armor into combat?
He'd rather fight them head-on then sneak around like a coward. He had his fair share of sneaking in Lordran and it was some of the worst experiences he had ever had. Like, seriously, how were you supposed to sneak past a bunch of hollows who seemed to track your every move?
Maybe there were some incantations or sorcery to help with those, but he didn't want to be bothered learning all of those when he was already busy learning Pyromancy from Laurentius, and then later down the line Quelana.
"How'd you rate it?" Izuku tilted his head, and the electric blonde pursed his lips for a bit, his brain clearly twisting and turning as it tried to eke out an answer.
"Hrmmm… Maybe an eight out of ten…? No, wait… But it looks so shiny… So a nine…?" Kaminari hummed while scratching his chin.
"Dude, just say it's a ten." Kirishima helpfully supplied from the side, his sharp teeth bared for anyone to see. "Like, Midoriya looks like some kind of knight straight out of a fairy tale. Feels like I'm in some kind of fantasy world when I step close to him."
"You mean a cosplay convention?" Jiro smirked, her fingers twiddling with her ear jacks. Izuku's mind felt a bit curious as to how that would feel, but he guessed it was a bit too sensitive to ask about, like asking a dude the size of his dong.
"Bruh, way to ruin my imagination." Kaminari groaned as he leaned back into his seat.
"Always happy to help, spark plug." The teasing hint in her voice caused the electric blond to groan even more.
"Anyway, what about you guys? Any progress on your costume improvements?" Izuku asked the rest of his classmates while lifting his face plate. It was getting a bit too stuffy in there anyway.
"Yep." Surprisingly, Katsuki was the one to answer first. "Gave myself some armor." The ash blond didn't elaborate further, but now that he said it, Izuku could see the first change. He was no longer wearing just a tank top that exposed his shoulders to the elements. Instead, he wore something of a form-fitting undersuit underneath what looked to be sleek plates of armor that was as flexible as he was.
It was as practical as it was stylish. Of course, he could do without the cumbersome grenade gauntlets, but it had a purpose in storing his sweat to unleash even powerful explosives, so that was a necessary addition to the outfit.
But after Katsuki, no one answered back, except for Mineta who had gotten rid of the diaper-looking bowl that made him look more of a toddler than a hero. He replaced it with just the normal tight-fitting suit and underwear-looking thing on the outside, and honestly, Izuku preferred the diaper.
It was something comical that could help the diminutive teen in combat against villains. Like, who in their right minds would take someone wearing a diaper seriously?
Be that as it may, Izuku frowned as he realized that none of his classmates save for the two he mentioned actually made any advancements in their costumes. They said something not knowing how to advance or what they needed. Supposedly, this rescue exercise would give them some ideas on how to improve and Izuku was fine with that.
The more they got ready for the real world, the better. He may not care about life and death as much as he did before, it was a normal way of life that should, under no circumstances, be perverted nor changed, but he would mourn the loss and give a tear-jerking goodbye.
"We're here. Cease your proclivities and get ready to disembark." And of course, as soon as the bus ground to a halt, Aizawa was the first out of the vehicle, his eyes promising pain if any of them delayed for just a bit.
As they got out, their eyes widened at the giant marvel of construction that laid ahead.
"Ah, welcome! Welcome!" A voice that was muffled by their helmet greeted them from just beside the entrance. "And not a second late. I'm impressed, Aizawa."
"No time to dilly dally." The shaggy man groaned as he sucked on a juice box. Then his eyes narrowed when he noticed something missing. "Where's All Might?"
"I'm afraid that he has other business to attend to." The other one dressed in what looked to be like a puffy astronaut costume held out three fingers.
"... Of course…" Aizawa groaned at the revelation.
All of this, Izuku had heard and seen. The same couldn't be said for his classmates, who were still busy marveling at the giant dome-like structure that dwarfed any of the mega-buildings they had visited in the cities.
"Anyway, we must continue. Can't cancel the class now that they're all here." Aizawa turned to look at them and barked his orders. "All of you, front and center. Now."
In an instant, the entire class stood in front of the two with rapt attention.
"As usual, you've traumatized your class." The astronaut sighed as they waved a hand. "Good afternoon, class 1-A. My name is-"
"Pro Hero Thirteen!" Uraraka squealed as she fangirled all over the hero.
"Why, yes! Thank you." The hero looked positively beaming at the acknowledgment. "Always nice to meet a fan. Anyway, as I was saying. I am the Pro Hero Thirteen. I specialize in rescue operations with the help of my Quirk, Black Hole."
The class ooh'd and aah'd as the hero continued on. They even demonstrated a glance of their quirk, air being sucked into her fingers as miniature black holes formed on her fingertips.
"Yes, I know. My Quirk is amazing." Their joyful tone suddenly took a dive as an ominous aura radiated from the space-themed hero. "However, and I cannot stress this enough, my Quirk can easily kill."
That put a damper on the mood of all his classmates. All of them shuffled in place, faces of unease looking around as their eyes darted from one another.
"You've first learned the limits of your Quirks with Aizawa during your Quirk Assessment Test. Then you learned how to use them in combat during All Might's Battle Trials, subconsciously limiting them against your fellow students. Then the Sports Festival came and all of you were pushed to your limits in what amount of Quirk usage you can get away with without harming your opponent too much." The hero looked pointedly at Izuku for a moment, a lull in her speech. "But that is not all your Quirk is meant to be. You've learned how to fight with it, now it's time to learn how to help others with it. That is why I am here, to show you the ropes in tackling dangerous scenarios to save others, to guide and mold you into the hero you can be in the future. Remember this class. Your Quirk is not meant to destroy. It is meant to save and create. Create futures for the generations that have gone before you, and will go after you. And save those that may have their families mourning them for the loss. A bit morbid, yes, but that is why I am here. Why you are here. And I hope that you will take my class seriously. Thank you for listening."
There was silence for a few seconds before applause echoed throughout the area. Izuku's classmates were smiling, beaming even, as they gazed in awe at the hero before them.
"Anyway, I've taken up too much time. How about we head in?" Thirteen turned around and led them all inside the dome. "If you haven't heard of this yet, I call her the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, or USJ for short. A marvel of engineering, if I do say so myself."
Just when they thought the huge building already looked cool outside, inside was a whole other story. Various biomes for simulating disasters, such as a giant lake with a yacht, mountainous areas, a rainy city, a burning city, a destroyed city, it had them all… Okay, maybe that was exaggerating a little bit, but the choices were already a lot.
Plus, they were huge.
"Anyway, shall we get started?" Izuku could imagine the grin underneath the helmet hero, no doubt excited about the day. And to be fair? He was as well. Maybe rescue simulation wouldn't be so bad after all.
