Chapter 227: Another small date!

The bustling town square was alive with music and laughter as Jin Wei and Zhang Yuan strolled through the crowd.

Lanterns hung from every corner, casting a warm golden glow over the scene.

Street performers played lively tunes on lutes and flutes, their melodies weaving through the air.

Children darted between stalls, and couples shared quiet moments by the fountain at the square's center.

It was a perfect night to relax and forget about the responsibilities that usually consumed their days.

Jin Wei glanced at Zhang Yuan as he walked beside her, and her heart raced every time his arm brushed hers, a sensation she quickly blamed on the crowded streets.

She tightened her shawl around her shoulders and tried to focus on the stalls ahead.

"How about this one?" Zhang Yuan pointed to a vendor selling delicate trinkets.

"You've always liked intricate things."

She followed him to the stall, admiring the beautifully crafted hairpins and bracelets on display.

"They're lovely," she murmured, her fingers lightly tracing a silver hairpin adorned with tiny sapphire stones.

"Try it," Zhang Yuan suggested, picking up the hairpin and holding it out to her.

Before she could protest, he stepped closer and gently tucked it into her hair, his fingers brushing against her temple.

Jin Wei's breath hitched by his sudden touch, and she quickly averted her gaze, hoping he wouldn't notice her flushed cheeks.

"It suits you," he said with a small smile, stepping back to admire his handiwork.

"Thank you... Yuan" she said softly, her voice barely audible over the music.

She decided to buy the hairpin, though she felt it was Zhang Yuan's touch that had truly made it special.

As they continued down the street, a lively tune caught their attention.

A group of musicians had set up a small stage, and people were gathering to watch.

Jin Wei's eyes lit up as she pulled Zhang Yuan toward the crowd. "Let's listen for a bit."

They found a spot near the edge of the gathering, the music's infectious rhythm making her sway slightly.

Zhang Yuan chuckled, watching her. "You've got good rhythm. Go on, join the dancers."

She shook her head quickly. "Not without you."

Before he could respond, a vendor passed by carrying skewers of candied fruits.

Jin Wei's eyes lit up, and Zhang Yuan laughed as he bought two.

"Here," he said, handing one to her. "A sweet for someone sweet."

Her cheeks warmed again, and she took the skewer with a shy smile. "Thank you."

They wandered further, stopping to play games at the stalls.

Zhang Yuan laughed as Jin Wei tried her hand at a ring-toss game, "You're aiming too low," he teased, stepping behind her to guide her arm.

His hands rested lightly on hers, and his voice was close to her ear. "Try it like this."

Her heart pounded at his touch, but she nodded, focusing on the ring in her hand.

Clank!

The ring landed perfectly around the target. Jin Wei's eyes lit up, her smile brightening as she turned to him in excitement.

Without thinking, she threw her arms around him, holding him tightly.

"Yuan..." she whispered, her voice soft yet filled with a mixture of joy and relief.

Jin Wei's eyelashes trembled as she realized that she hugged him out of nowhere.

Her cheeks flushed deeply, and she pulled back slightly, her heart racing. Nervousness crept into her voice as she stammered, "I… I… didn't mean to…" Enjoy exclusive content from My Virtual Library Empire

Before she could step away entirely, Zhang Yuan's warm laughter filled the air.

With a soft chuckle, he reached out and hugged her back, "Good job, Jin Wei," he said with a gentle smile.

"Hmm.."

The vendor running the game handed her a small prize... a plush rabbit.

She accepted it with a nod, her fingers brushing against Zhang Yuan's as he reached to help her.

"This is for you," he said, handing it to her properly.

Jin Wei clutched the rabbit to her chest, the soft fabric a comforting weight in her hands. "It's cute,"

They moved on to a dart-throwing game, and this time, Zhang Yuan took the lead.

"Hahahaha." Jin Wei couldn't stop laughing as he missed his target repeatedly, his usually composed demeanor giving way to mock frustration.

"You're terrible at this," she teased, her laughter bubbling over.

"I'm just letting you win," he replied, feigning indignation before joining in her laughter.

"Idiot, hahaha."

As the night wore on, they found themselves back at the music stage, where the performers were now playing a slower, more melodic tune.

Couples swayed together, and Jin Wei's heart skipped a beat when Zhang Yuan turned to her.

"Would you like to dance?" he asked, extending his hand.

She hesitated, her nerves warring with her desire to accept.

Finally, she placed her hand in his, and he led her to the open space near the stage.

His hand rested lightly on her waist, and she placed hers on his shoulder, their free hands clasped together.

They moved slowly, the music guiding their steps...

"You're surprisingly good at this,"

"You're easy to dance with," he replied, his eyes meeting hers.

For a moment, the world around them seemed to fade, leaving only the music and the warmth of his hand in hers.

When the song ended, they stayed like that for a while before stepping apart.

Zhang Yuan kept her hand in his as they walked back toward the quieter part of town. The air was cooler now, and Jin Wei shivered slightly.

"Are you cold?" he asked, already draping his outer robe over her shoulders before she could respond.

"Thank you," she said, pulling the fabric closer.

The scent of him clung to it, comforting and familiar.

They stopped at a small bridge overlooking a gently flowing stream.

The water reflected the moonlight, creating a shimmering display. J

in Wei leaned on the railing, her hand still entwined with Zhang Yuan's.

"Tonight was wonderful," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"It was," he agreed, his gaze fixed on her rather than the view.

"We should do this more often."

She turned to face him, her heart pounding as she gathered her courage. "I… I'd like that."

Their eyes met, and for a moment, the world seemed to hold its breath.

Then Zhang Yuan smiled, squeezing her hand gently.

"Let's head back," he said, his voice warm and steady.

Jin Wei nodded, feeling a quiet joy settle over her.

As they walked back through the now-sleepy town, her hand remained in his and a sheepish smile on her face.

...

"Hahaha... stop teasing me, Yuan."

Jin Wei giggled as Zhang Yuan pinched her cheek and both of them went upstairs in the hotel they were staying in.

As they reached upstairs, Zhang Yuan glanced at the woman waiting for him "Shi'er?"
