At the Miyagi-Do dojo, silence returned after Tory and the others from Cobra Kai fled over the wall, leaving behind walls stained with red paint and pieces of broken wood. Sam stood up, leaning on Daniel's arm, her shoulder aching from where Tory had punched her. Robby stood in front of them, his green eyes fixed on her, the words still hanging in the air: "I came to talk to you." Daniel gripped his daughter's shoulder, his eyes wide as he stared at Robby, trying to understand how he was here.
"I arrived in Reseda last night. I stayed at my father's house. I came here now." He paused for a moment, anger flashing in his eyes as he glared at Sam. "I need to talk to her. Alone. Can you give me a break, Mr. Larusso?"
Daniel hesitated, looking from Robby to Sam, sensing the tension in the air. He'd known Robby would be out early—Johnny had called Tuesday afternoon, saying the kid would be released that day for good behavior after a few weeks—but he hadn't expected to see him here so soon, especially after an attack on the dojo. "Okay," he said finally, his voice calm but worried. "Stay here. I'll get you some water and check the damage." He carefully released Sam's shoulder, gave Robby one last look, and walked out of the dojo, leaving the two of them alone among the stained walls and messy floor.
Sam was quiet for a moment, her blue eyes wide as she stared at Robby. He was free—after only a few weeks in juvie, here in front of her, helping her against Tory and the others. The guilt she felt for having stopped responding to his emails while he was in prison tightened her chest. "You're here," she said, her voice shaking as she took a step forward. "Why didn't you tell me you were leaving?"
Robby crossed his arms, his green eyes narrowing as he glared at her, anger rising in his voice. "I tried, Sam. I sent you emails. You didn't respond to any of them. What was going on here? Why did you cut me off like that?"
Sam swallowed, her blue eyes dropping for a moment before returning to him, guilt burning as she searched for words. "I… I didn't know what to say, Robby. You were locked away, and out here… everything changed. I didn't want to hurt you anymore."
"Everything changed?" Robby repeated, his voice getting louder as he took a step closer, his fists clenched at his sides. "Change what, Sam? You're with Jack now, right? The guy from Cobra Kai. My dad told me in the car yesterday about him. Did you dump me because of him?"
Sam looked up, his blue eyes shining with a mixture of guilt and defensiveness. "It wasn't like that, Robby! I didn't plan it. Things... just happened!"
"You didn't plan?" Robby laughed, but the sound was bitter, echoing in the dojo. "You stopped answering me, Sam. I was stuck trying to keep in touch with you, and you left me in the dark. Meanwhile, you're with Jack. My dad never gave a shit about me, and now you're abandoning me. How do you think I feel about that?"
"You think I don't feel bad?" Sam cried, her voice cracking as she took a step forward, her blue eyes shining with tears she was trying to hold back. "I know I abandoned you, Robby! I know I was selfish! But I didn't know what to do with you in there and everything being a mess out here!"
"Chaos?" Robby snapped, his green eyes glowing as he pointed at her. "You look good to me, Sam. Dating Jack, fighting with Cobra Kai, while I was in prison for something that wasn't even my fault! My father betrayed me my whole life, you abandoned me, and now I see you here with him in your life!"
Sam was silent, her blue eyes wide as his words hit her like blows, guilt choking her as she tried to find a response. "Robby, I... I didn't mean for it to be like this. I didn't know how to tell you!"
"You didn't know?" Robby yelled, his fists clenched as he took a step back, anger mixed with pain in his voice. "You left me behind, Sam! My father didn't want me, you abandoned me, and I still came here to help you like an idiot! Everyone turned their backs on me!"
Before Sam could say anything else, Daniel walked back into the dojo, a bottle of water in his hand, his eyes wide at the sound of their shouting. "Enough, you two!" he said, his voice firm as he stepped into their midst. "This isn't going to be solved by shouting here, now. Robby, you're free, but this isn't the time for that. Sam, let's go home."
Robby stood there for a moment, his green eyes fixed on Sam, his breathing heavy as anger and pain consumed him. "There's nothing more to say," he said, his voice low and sharp, before turning and walking out of the dojo, his fists clenched. As he walked out, the weight of betrayal crushed him—Johnny had never been there for him, Sam had abandoned him for Jack, and everything around him felt like it was falling apart. He remembered Kreese, the Cobra Kai sensei who had visited him in juvie a few weeks ago, saying, "You're strong, Keene. You just need someone to guide you." Robby decided he would go to Kreese—talk to him, find a place to stay, away from Johnny and Sam.
On Wednesday morning, Jack arrived at the Cobra Kai dojo, his bandaged arm still aching from the fight in the parking lot two days ago. He knew leaving the dojo wouldn't be easy, but after his talk with Sam the night before, he was determined. The place was nearly empty after morning practice, but Tory, Kyler, Hawk, and a few others were mopping the floor while John Kreese, the head sensei, watched from a corner with cold eyes. Robby, who had arrived at the dojo the night before after leaving Miyagi-Do and slept in a makeshift corner provided by Kreese, was hiding behind a partition, woken by the sound of the door opening. He lay still, his green eyes half-lidded, listening to everything.
Jack stood in the center of the dojo, looking directly at Kreese. "Sensei, I'm out. I'm not coming back."
Kreese looked up slowly, genuine sadness shining in his eyes before it was hidden by his hard expression. Jack was the best fighter in the dojo—strong, fast, dedicated—and losing him was like losing a valuable weapon. "You're throwing away everything we've built here, Sullivan," Kreese said, his voice low and thick with disappointment. "You were the best of us. Why are you doing this?"
Tory dropped the cloth she was holding, a stab of pain shooting through her chest at Jack's words. Her eyes narrowed, burning with anger, but inside something was breaking. She remembered the fight in the parking lot—Jack falling to his knees, his arm bleeding as Kyler, Mitch, and another Cobra Kai beat him repeatedly. In that moment, her heart sank, she wanted to scream for them to stop at the sight of the blood flowing, but she didn't have the heart to do anything, not when she had started everything by calling Sam into the fight. Now, he was leaving Cobra Kai, and the guilt she had tried to ignore came back strong. "Are you abandoning us because of her, Sullivan?" she said, her voice sharp as if to hide her feelings. "After yesterday, you think you're going to get off that easy?"
Kyler laughed out loud, his smirk appearing as he walked closer. "Coward, huh? You're going to run to LaRusso? She told you to leave and you're leaving like a little girl, aren't you?"
Hawk crossed his arms, shaking his mohawk as he taunted, "You were never really Cobra. I always knew you'd give up."
Jack kept his gaze steady, staring at Kreese without letting the provocations faze him. "It's not for anyone, sensei. It's for me. This place doesn't make sense to me anymore. It's over."
Kreese was quiet for a moment, his eyes fixed on Jack, the sadness clear behind his hard facade. "You're making a mistake, kid," he said, his voice firm. "But it's your choice. Go away." He turned away, but the weight of losing Jack was written all over his face.
Tory stepped forward, her cold smile returning as she pointed at Jack, her voice hard despite the pain she felt inside. "You'll regret this, Jack. Leave now, but don't think it ends here." She couldn't let anyone see the conflict that consumed her—the guilt for hurting him in that fight, the sadness of seeing him go—so she hid it all behind the threat.
Jack didn't answer, turning to leave the dojo, but before he could take another step, Robby stepped out from behind the partition, his green eyes blazing with anger as he stepped forward. Robby felt betrayal burning inside him—Johnny had abandoned him for years, Sam had traded him for Jack, and now Jack was here, walking away from Cobra Kai as if he could escape it all. "Jack," Robby said, his voice low but sharp, stopping him in his tracks. "I want to know everything—so you're going to explain it to me and tell me everything…"
Jack stopped in the middle of the dojo, green eyes wide as he turned to face Robby. The room fell silent, Tory, Kyler, and Hawk stopping to watch in surprise. "Robby?" Jack said, his voice firm but filled with confusion as he took a step back. "What do you want to know?" He felt a mix of surprise and tension, not understanding why Robby was there or what he wanted from him.
