Sky-cracking Rider

Chapter 635: Section 631 - Custody Area

While Chen Fei was busily hammering someone, Princess Lin Ziyu quietly listened to the commotion next door, ready to act at any moment.

Curse magic that harms the enemy while benefiting oneself, skulking in the shadows, was indeed the magician's forte.

In the current factional struggle within Imperial Capital Delan City, although Princess Her Royal Highness was all by herself, without the butler or Shadow Guard by her side, flying to Zhai Liuzhou with Chen Fei under the identity of Third-Level Investigative Agent Yu Zilin to handle the case was relatively safer. Not to mention the double insurance of the Metallic Giant Dragon Yilan, an impeccably perfect security plan.

Any noble with half a brain wouldn't actively provoke a bastard who could lead a bunch of elementary students to make them weep, right?

After at least five minutes of silence in the holding cell, the grimacing gang members finally came to their senses. One of them asked uncertainly, the words involuntarily respectful, "Did you really not kill Boss An Luota?"

These lucky fellows hadn't been hammered to death, but they were all incapacitated, piled haphazardly in a corner; the first guy who was smashed against the wall lay at the very bottom, unconscious.

"I've only arrived in Zhai Liuzhou less than three hours ago, so there's really no need for that. Even an assassin wouldn't do such a thing, right?"

Chen Fei continued to explain, persuading these louts who were accustomed to physical domination proved really hard.

Ah! If they still can't understand plain language, might as well just kill them all.

A tough guy sneered and said, "Hey! You think the walls have ears, so you deliberately say this, making us foolishly believe it?"

"Yeah, we're not that easy to fool!"

"It must have been you!"

"Go ahead and kill us! We of the Hundred-Legs Gang won't succumb!"

As expected, these gang members were not short of muddle-headed individuals; even after being beaten half to death, they still refused to yield.

What the heck with walls having ears (actually, there really was surveillance equipment in the holding room, these guys were old hands at this), Chen Fei hadn't really thought about that. He just wanted to find an entry point to gather more information.

In Chen Fei's eyes, these fellows were beyond redemption. Scum was scum and should be beaten to death on the spot, chopped to pieces, then buried in the ground, covered with grass, and by next year it would grow three feet tall.

"The death of 'One-Leg' An Luota is the least surprising thing," commented Princess Lin Ziyu with a sigh from the neighboring cell.

Like boss, like minions, a bear leader leads a bear pack. With such a brainless bunch of henchmen, the boss "One-Leg" An Luota couldn't be much better.

Give up on treatment. It's hopeless!

"Let's get out of here!"

Although Chen Fei couldn't figure out why these gang members were brought to the holding cell, he had already given up on the idea of staying here any longer.

When an action loses its meaning, procedural justice has already failed.

After all, the Princess is here, and the entire dynasty belongs to the Slan Royal Family. They really can do whatever they want!

"But... how do we get out?"

Princess Lin Ziyu tugged at the holding room's separation bars with a bit of force, but they didn't budge an inch.

The bars were not made entirely of metal, but rather of specially made composite materials with high strength, resistant to strong acids and alkalis. The room was also equipped with a specialized magic array that could interfere with spiritual power and Battle Qi, dispersing Elemental Energy.

For higher-threat convicts, there were even more secured solitary confinement rooms similar to those holding the Metallic Giant Dragon Yilan, and it was nearly impossible for Ability Users below the Human Order to break out.

"Of course, we…" Chen Fei suddenly turned towards the outside of the bars and shouted loudly.

"Is! There! Anybody! Out! There!?!?!?!"

All by yelling.

"Uh..."

Unexpectedly, there was no response!

Shouldn't there be people on duty in the corridor of the holding room?

"No one?"

Even Princess Lin Ziyu was surprised. Such a racket should have woken up even a dead pig, let alone humans, and surveillance systems in holding rooms usually responded automatically to even the slightest commotion.

"Xiao Jiu! Cast a Light Mirror Spell! Take a look down the corridor."

Chen Fei caught the little bird standing on the bars in his palm.

The light screen flickered and dissolved into countless points of light.

No good?

Little Jiu's Light Mirror Spell should have been quite practiced lately, so why the failure once more?

Then, the light screen condensed again, and before it could stabilize, it silently scattered and rapidly extinguished.

"It's no use; spells below the Seventh Rank will be disrupted, and no one would put people fully endowed with casting abilities and Battle Qi in such a simple confinement without precaution," came Princess Lin Ziyu's voice from the other cell.

Chen Fei turned his gaze toward the panicked gang members, and suddenly it all clicked.

"A bunch of trash!"

The disdain in his voice was quite evident.

"Little Jiu, go find the keys, or a card or something, anything that can be used to pick the lock."

Chen Fei gestured to the little creature, directing it to look for something to unlock the door with.

"Chirp!"

The seemingly semi-comprehending Little Bird immediately fluttered its wings and flew towards the end of the corridor.

After a series of chirps, it finally flew back, tenaciously grasping a bunch of keys in its tiny claws. Due to its insufficient strength, its flight was erratic as it bobbed up and down into the detention room.

Princess Lin Ziyu rushed to the bars, somewhat incredulously watching Little Bird fly past her.

Could the keys to the Security Department's detention room really be obtained this easily?

The management system has gone to the dogs!

With the internal chaos at the Security Department's South Capital City Branch to this extent, the local gang leader "One-Leg" An Luota truly died as he deserved.

Click!

The door to the detention room was opened.

It was definitely out of reach by hand, but with a crowbar, twisted into the desired shape, Chen Fei went on to try the various keys one by one.

Additionally, violently jabbing the Universal Data Transceiver into the door control module, brute-forcing for a few seconds, both the electronic lock and the mechanical lock were opened simultaneously.

To think a physical key alone could open the detention room, would seriously underestimate the Dynasty Security Department.

"Big brother!" × 8

The eight battered gangsters witnessed Chen Fei's series of slick maneuvers.

Such skills could only belong to a senior, they feared!

Chen Fei pushed open the cell door, and, without looking back, said, "Your big brother is dead!"

"Please, take us with you! From now on, in the Hundred-Legs Gang, you're the boss!"

"Please take us in!"

The eight gangsters quickly prostrated themselves, even positioning the unconscious guy in a swooping tiger pose, rear end up in the air, which was probably the same position he'd assume if awake.

Capable in a fight, and with such "handy work," who else could be the boss if not such a big shot?!

With "One-Leg" An Luota's sudden demise, the leaderless Hundred-Legs Gang faced the danger of splitting into four, and other local small gangs were even eager to move, each of them wanting to take the place and become the South Capital City area's gang leader.

If at this moment a powerful big shot could lead the brothers of the Hundred-Legs Gang once again, why worry about instability in their territory?

"Sorry, no time!"

Bang! Chen Fei closed the cell door, then moved to the next cell over, containing Princess Lin Ziyu, and repeated the process.

Click, the most troublesome door control system was directly unlocked.

The electronic lock recognized fingerprints; once one was unlocked, they were all unlocked. The physical keys were a bit more troublesome, integrated with microcircuits. Simply duplicating the key's shape was not enough to unlock it and would instead cause it to lock up completely.

"Big brother!" × 8

This time their collective shout carried a hint of despair and tragedy, like a group of abandoned dogs.

Yet Chen Fei felt no affection for the gangsters, and the prospect of playing the big shot and being used as a human shield—such thankless tasks—he was not foolish, surely he could see through these guys' true intentions.

"You really have some tricks up your sleeve, how did you do it?"

Princess Lin Ziyu sized up Chen Fei, thinking that if he was just a B-grade supernatural power user, it would have been too impressive.

"Heh, I'm immune to Supernatural Ability Suppressants, so my special ability is still intact!"

Chen Fei waved the White Steel Crowbar in his hand and slung it over his shoulder, a look of supreme confidence on his face.

Also a supernatural power user, he was just that audacious.

"Hah!~"

The chance of Supernatural Ability Suppressants failing was small, though not non-existent, and Princess Lin Ziyu hadn't expected to actually encounter such a case.

The Imperial Security Department's local branch locked him up without giving it much thought, never suspecting he had the power to get out.

Xiao Jiu, who found the keys, had also made a significant contribution; without the keys, it might still be possible to get out, but it would certainly require more effort.

After passing through several corridor isolation doors in succession, Chen Fei found the solitary confinement room, released the female Metallic Giant Dragon Yilan, and along with Princess Lin Ziyu, went to the detention area's duty room.

The surveillance system was still running, vapors rose gently from several cups of tea on the desk, yet not a single person was in sight.

"No one?"

Princess Lin Ziyu found this hard to believe.

Even if the Imperial Security Department's South Capital City Branch's internal management was lax, it couldn't be lax to this extent. It was completely off the rails. How could the important duty post be deserted!

"They left in quite a hurry, 'Adam,' search the surveillance records, and see when the duty officers left."

Chen Fei located the data port and connected the Universal Data Transceiver to it.

The screens of a dozen surveillance monitors began rewinding time simultaneously, all the way back to the scene where the duty officers departed.

An hour earlier, not long after the gangsters from the Hundred-Legs Gang had been taken to the detention area, two flustered and panicked Investigative Agents stumbled into the duty room, and engaged in frantic conversation with the four duty officers. Soon after, a dispute broke out between the two groups, and just as a conflict was about to erupt, they all restrained themselves simultaneously.

After a moment of silence, the four duty officers huddled in a corner, whispering among themselves for a while, seemingly reaching some agreement, and then left the duty room with the two Investigative Agents.

"Seems like an emergency situation arose!"

The duty officers of the detention area would not leave their post without a reason, Princess Lin Ziyu could only catch a few words and phrases from the surveillance audio.
