Chapter 26: Silly Zaney Zoo
It was the day of the zoo visit, and Sil was doing his best to dress up nicely.
He unfortunately lacked a proper wardrobe due to his ship crashing and blowing to bits. Borrowing from Logan's collection was out of the question due to their drastically different body types. Instead, Logan had a shipment of clothes sent his way and was looking through the boxes for something presentable.
Meanwhile, Vicky was with Logan in his office, examining some documents about production numbers. She sat opposite of her husband, and exhaled loudly, getting frustrated with graphs of supply and demand.
"Ugh…" Vicky groaned, and face planted onto the desk. "I'm sick of these stupid papers. Why'd you call me in here anyways?"
"What if I wanted to spend time with my love?" Logan held a giant stack of papers that covered his face. "We really need to update their data management to use new technology instead of paper. This will automate the process and have the computers run the numbers."
"Heh… my little tinkerer…" Vicky sat upright again before grabbing another paper that looked simpler. While examining it and marking some things, she couldn't help but recall Logan's behavior for the past few days. "So… I was just thinking…"
"Oh? About what?"
Vicky kissed her teeth. "Well, it's about Sil. He's going to need to learn about Quinn and Peter, y'know?"
Logan's grip on the paperwork tightened, wrinkling the sheets. Vicky took notice of her husband's sudden action.
"I know you've been avoiding Sil ever since he came back. You two barely talked."
"I'm just… worried about how he'll react…" Logan flattened the wrinkled papers with his hands.
Vicky gave her husband a look. "This isn't like you. If you're so worried about Sil then you wouldn't be acting this way. It's something else."
She took a deep breath, "This isn't about Sil, or Quinn is it? This is about your past with Peter."
Logan stopped in his tracks. "H-how did you—?"
"I'm not mad!" Vicky quickly spoke, "I knew you two used to be close, just as close as we've been… You miss him, don't you?"
Logan stared at his wife surprised. Sometimes he'd forget that outside of her typical forceful nature, she took notice of the subtle things.

Logan cleared his throat, "Peter is an undead, one that had romantic feelings, but didn't have the kinds of sexual feelings that I had towards him. I loved him despite this and figured out a way to allow him to feel that kind of attraction towards me." he gained a slight blush recalling his and the undead's time together. "I trusted him with a lot of things, and he did the same with me. He protected me with his life on more than one occasion, in return, I allowed him to feel more human. I learned to advance my qi to the 3rd stage for his sake."
Vicky was amazed by how much he loved Peter. She never realized her husband had given so much for this one man.
"But when Quinn was put into slumber, he joined his tomb and watched over him. I thought Peter would leave soon after," Logan's grip on his papers tightened again. "I calculated it, I ran the numbers— it was supposed to be a 79% chance that he'd get bored and leave. He never did though…"
Logan gripped his fists, and a slight anger ran through his mind. "Why did he leave me for him ? I keep thinking about it. I know that Quinn was someone special to him, but what about me? Did what we have mean nothing?"
"I can't even ask because I don't know where he is anymore..." he muttered, deflating in his seat.

Vicky placed a hand over Logan's fist, reminding him where he was in the real world.
"Breathe." Vicky hummed to calm him down. This was a practice that she used for herself when her own anger grew.
Logan relaxed himself and followed his beloved's rhythm. After a bit, he spoke again. "How are we going to tell him?"
—
The three of them rode on a private flight to the zoo. Vicky kept taking glances at Sil, not entirely sure of herself. She recently got a gift for her brother which was initially for his own struggles of his appearance, but she was beginning to have doubts about the reason.
She walked up to the chair Sil was relaxing in, he was sitting next to the window, and joined him opposite of where he was.
"Hey, Sil, I got you a little something. Consider it your late birthday gift."
"Late? My birthday is still in four months." Sil chuckled.
"Yeah well it's late from the ship birthday." Vicky took out the carefully wrapped box and handed it over. "I hope you like it."
Sil started ripping apart the wrapping, before lifting the box up and examining it. "Wax strips?" He raised an eyebrow. "What for?"
"Well, you were pretty pressed about looking like our grandpops for a bit. You mentioned that you didn't bring a razor, so I got you this!" Vicky pointed at some additional text in the corner. "Plus, this specific brand keeps the hair removed longer. I've used it myself back then so trust me when I say it's good."
Sil looked at the box closer, and took out some of the contents inside.
"Wow, this is… great," He smiled for a second before looking back at his sister, "but… I don't want to have to keep using things like this to keep those thoughts away. It'll just mean he's controlling me still. I want to grow past that. I know I'm not him."
Vicky just kept her posture the same, hiding any fears or doubts in her mind aside. She was supposed to be a good sister, and not affirm his fears.
"You're right—" she quickly stated. "I'll get you something else then!" she said while reaching out for the box before Sil moved it out of her range.
"Vic— I appreciate your gift, I'll just use it for other things— I can use it for… o-other places right?" Sil stammered.
"Oh— yeah, you can use it on your arms and legs! Keep ya nice and… uh… hair-free yeah?"
"Yeah, I guess that too then."
Vicky stared blankly at Sil before realizing what he meant.
"Sil, you need to be careful with those— I tried using them on my—"
"AH. No. I don't need details. That's enough information. I'll get my own… protection." He was starting to feel his face heat up.
Vicky let a snort out, "Protection my ass. Who got fuckin' space AIDS again?"
"Don't remind me…" Sil's face turned into that of horror recalling his messy attempt at curing himself. "I still need to talk to Logan about getting me vaccinated against that."
Logan popped his head out, "I could've gotten you vaccinated, but I needed sample DNA of the infected blood. I doubt you kept your chopped off parts."
Sil's face turned bright red. "I… uh… I actually did keep the parts that I…" his voice lowering to a whisper.
He opened up a portal and took out a vampire flask. He didn't even want to look at it. "I knew you were going to ask— please don't tell anyone."
Logan just stood there, absolutely shocked. "So… You drained your blood?"
"Well… technically, I did…" Sil tossed the bottle to Logan. "Just take it!"
Logan catched it, and grimaced at hearing the clumpy sloshing sound inside. "What's in here?!"
"WOW! Thank you so much for doing this massive favor for me! I'll pay you back in beast crystals, you want any of my demon tiers?" Sil hastily spoke.
Logan stood there, suddenly reminded of the Peter incident. His eyes were wide, and his mouth was open.
"You know what— I'll just leave these here," Sil opened up another portal and dropped off a few demon crystals on the table.
Vicky burst out laughing, she tried her hardest to hold it in, but she fell to the floor, banging her hands creating a small dent. Any fears she previously had suddenly went away.
"There's no way Hilston would be this goated!" she wheezed between laughs, barely audible.
Sil looked at his crying laughing sister, and suddenly dropped any embarrassment he had about himself. "What was that?" He wasn't sure if he heard her right, and he was slightly scared if he did.
"NOTHING!" Vicky yelled, quickly collecting herself.
—
The rest of the ride was a bit awkward to say the least. Vicky just kept giggling at Sil, making him feel like smacking her. Sil thought about beating up his sister, and vice versa with Vicky wanting to beat up her brother. They shut down that idea immediately after it came into their minds.
When they landed, they went to the zoo and entered their tickets. As they went inside, they looked around to see if they could find Shiro.
The area was somewhat crowded with several people walking by them. The sky shone brightly, and many of the beasts were in large specially made custom cages that allowed for freedom of movement. Each beast had at least two members of the Bree assigned to them. Near the exhibits was a food court that served both humans and vampires, albeit more towards human tastes than the other.
"Why'd you bring that with you?" Sil asked, referring to the flask.
Logan was looking around for a trash bin or a drain, "I need to dispose of this."
"And affect the ecosystem? There's alien DNA in that, you know." Vicky chuckled as she placed a shoulder on her husband.
"So— When are they coming?" Sil badly wanted to change the topic.
"Around the same time as us." Logan checked his internal clock. "It is exactly 10:57am."
"Vicky! Logan! Sil!" A man called out. They recognized it as Shiro. "We made it!"
As Shiro caught up to them, he looked at the flask that Logan was holding. "Oh? Didn't know you were a vampire, but I should've guessed considering how long you were living without an ability." He joked.
Logan pointed at his chest where his nest crystal was at. If one was paying close attention, they could see the faint glow beneath the shirt. "No, I'd rather keep my ability the same. I'm using a different method to stay alive."
"Really? Then what's the flask for?"
"It's juice!" Vicky happily explained. "These things are great for holding drinks. Really keeps em fresh!"
Logan and Sil glared at Vicky, but she happily smiled in return.
"Great! I'm actually a little bit thirsty myself, mind if I have some?" Shiro held his hand out towards Logan, to which he moved the drink out of his reach.
"No— It's got uh…" Logan struggled to come up with a lie.
Instead, Sil went to hug Shiro. "You're back!"
Shiro was confused. "Didn't we just talk yesterday?"
"I wasn't able to give you a proper hug yesterday." Sil said.
Vicky nudged Logan. "Aww, why are you so mean? Let the poor man have a drink."
Logan finally came up with a lie. "It's medicated! Prescription— Nest crystals have— uh— an effect on the human body."
Vicky looked a little disappointed. Sil took this as the opportunity to snatch the flask and put it away in his portal storage.
"Why'd you steal his drink? He just said it was medicated," Shiro asked, concerned.
"I just wanted to help him lighten the load, ya know?" Sil shrugged. "We're going to be walking around all day."
"What? I don't think you drank it yet." Vicky said with a shit eating grin.
"No, I drank it when you weren't paying attention Vicky. Don't worry," Logan's mind went to imagine himself actually drinking the contents, suddenly his hair wasn't the only thing that was green.
"Well then, let's get to looking around!" Shiro was completely unaware, already focused on the creatures around him. "I heard about some beasts that look like a manticore."
The group traveled around the zoo, and looked around at all of the beasts. They came across this one trainer who taught a seal looking beast tricks, and put on a show. Everyone thought it looked cute.
"This beast I've named Sealica." The beast tamer called out.
"Aww, I want one," Vicky stared sweetly at the beast.
A bigger beast then came into the area, and Sealica fought against it. It was a bloody battle, with guts and gore everywhere. The seal beast was victorious. The audience was in shock, but Vicky was more than excited.
"YES! RIP OUT ITS EYES!" She roared. "Logan, you need to buy me one!"
Logan just rolled his eyes. "Vicky, we have so many of these, and I know you don't take care of them."
Vicky looked disappointed and crossed her arms as she pouted in her seat. Vorden had since started fronting and looked at the massacre in front of him. It hit a little too close to home as he was once in the body of a beast, and was deeply disturbed.
—
The show ended, and they all left to grab food. There were several food carts that were very stylized towards their food branding, and they split up to find what they wanted. Logan left with Shiro, and Vicky and Sil were walking together. Vicky kept making stops at the different carts ordering something new.
"Vic… Do you really need all of that?" Sil looked at the large pile of food his sister was holding. She had powdered donuts, deep fried ice cream, cheesecake on a stick, a double decker hamburger, and 3 different types of fries.
"Look Sil, surely you'd realize that working out means I need to bulk up." Vicky spoke cheerfully. "You need energy to burn."
"I'm more so worried about your digestion." Sil craned his neck to look at the top of the carefully stacked food.
"Eh, it's nothing, I'll just use qi to fix it. Look, there's space over there!" Vicky pointed at an empty wooden table with her foot as her hands were full.
The two sat down, and began to dig into their food. Sil ate his food at a normal pace while Vicky gorged on her meals. He could've sworn he saw his sister's jaw unhinge.
"Come on," Vicky said between mouthfuls of food. "I didn't just spend Logan's cash for you to barely eat."
'You're the one eating abnormally…' Sil thought.
"So…" Sil cleared his throat. "I know this isn't the best time, but I haven't really gotten to see you around lately. I just wanted to ask if there's any plans to see Quinn."
Right as Sil mentioned him, Vicky was in the middle of stuffing a donut in her mouth. She choked and began coughing. After Sil had to slap her on the back repeatedly, She managed to spit out the donut, clearing her throat to speak.
"Whew… Why are you asking now?"
Sil tapped his fingers on the table, and bashfully looked off to the side. "It's nothing really…I had a dream about him."
"Ooooohhhh?" Vicky was now VERY intrigued about this dream. "What happened? Did you get all mushy mushy?"
This was the 3rd time that day that Sil's face went bright red. "W-what?! How'd you find out—?!"
"Oh my god— you're so down bad for him!" Vicky snickered. "Tell me, what happened in your dream?"
Sil blushed recalling the dream and scratched the back of his head. "He… uh…kissed me, then bit into me… and we got… a little wild."
"Oooo? You guys got nakeyyyy?" She gave him a knowing side eye as she took in a drink.
"...I saw his birthmark on his left butcheek." Sil covered his face with his hands, trying to hide his embarrassment. "It was in the shape of a duck."
Vicky almost spat out her soda, "Dreaming about both your sweethearts?!"
"It's not even a duck in real life! It's more like a yam shape."
'What's up with the Blades and yams?' Vicky wondered.
"..."
"Wait, how do you know it's yam shaped?"
Sil refused to respond, still covering his face with his hands. He just shriveled up his body as she called him out on that.
"HOW DO YOU KNOW!?" Vicky grabbed Sil by the shoulders and shook him furiously.
"I'M NOT TELLING YOU!" He yelled muffled through his hands.
Sil didn't want to say that the reason why he knew Quinn had a yam shaped birthmark on his left butcheek was because he accidentally walked in on the man changing once and had to pretend it never happened. Before Vicky could question her brother further, Shiro and Logan joined them at the table.
"Who knows what?" Shiro asked as he set down his plate of fried chicken.
"My little brother here's knows about a bir—"
Sil jammed his fist into her side, causing her to fall over to the floor.
"M-my lunch…!" She weakly cried out, holding her mouth.
"Sil, how dare you punch my wife?" Logan shot at Sil.
"She's MY sister! She used to beat me up regularly to say good morning."
Vicky shakily climbed her way back up the table, holding her side.
"Did you really have to put qi into that punch?" she groaned in pain.
"What was so bad that you had to physically assault the woman I love?" Logan questioned.
"I could maybe tell you, Logan, but I can't in front of him!" Sil gestured to Shiro.
"Um…" Shiro now felt very awkward at the table. "Should I leave, or…?"
"Forget it!" Sil waved his hands. "It's not important, you don't need to know!"
—
The sky was turning dark as they spent the rest of the day enjoying the sights of beasts. There were many that looked impressive, some that looked beautiful, and some that looked strange.
Currently, they were underground looking at an underwater exhibit. There was a beautiful sea beast with shimmering multicolored scales and long colorful fins that glistened in the afternoon sunlight.
Sil thought it looked gorgeous, and considered taking Quinn here at some point when he would wake up. He thought about it, before shutting down the idea as Quinn was deathly afraid of the ocean.
"Can we PLEASE get one of these?" Vicky pleaded as she pointed at the sea beast.
"For the last time, no." Logan crossed his arms, "Where would we even store this one?"
"If I may," Shiro butted in, "but couldn't you just buy a tank, or a large aquarium?"
"Yesssss!" Vicky began shaking his hand furiously, "Thank you whoever it is who's out fronting right now! I'm gonna get us a MOAT!"
While being furiously shaken, Shiro managed to get out, "You're welcome—."
"I'm not buying you a moat, Vicky." Logan said as he looked up at his wife.
"Why not!? We'll feed them our enemies corpses! That's how I'll take care of them."
"It's still a no."
"Awwww…" Vicky looked defeated, until she sprang back up and whispered into Logan's ear. Logan didn't look so impressed, until Vicky had a devilish smirk, and suddenly Logan was in.
"Fine, but it'll only be a lake, not a moat."
"I'll take it!" Vicky held a hand out, to which Logan took, "it's a deal."
"What kind of deal did you make?" Sil asked.
"Oh you know…" Vicky smirked, "Logan's been looking forward to a new set of lungs."
"That is not what we talked about." Logan corrected.
"I'll be using a water ability, get those replacements ready~." Vicky cooed as she picked up Logan and snuggled her face into his neck giving him kisses.
"Get a room." Vorden scoffed as he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, they make me sick." Sil sarcastically commented.
"Agreed. It's a miracle that Logan is still alive…"
Logan and Vicky ignored them and continued to makeout right then and there in public. He had his legs wrapped around her waist, allowing Vicky's arms to be free to caress his head. A few folks started to glance their way, some covering the eyes of their children.
"Vicky! Logan!" Vorden called out, snapping his fingers. "Idiots to earth?! People are staring!"
The two immediately stopped in their makeout session and looked around at the onlookers. Vicky set down her husband and they pretended like nothing happened.
"I just saw a miracle performed today. It IS possible to get them to stop kissing." Sil said in awe.
"I've found my ways, but they only work if they're in public." Vorden shrugged with a smile.
"Fuuuuuuuuccccck… only in public?" Sil asked, disappointed.
Vorden walked up to Sil and placed a hand on his shoulder, "Word of advice, If they're in private, you're better off just leaving them to their own devices."
—
The afternoon became night, and the zoo was soon to close. Vicky and Logan grew a little antsy around Sil, which didn't go unnoticed. They went outside of the zoo, ready to leave, and prepared to say their goodbyes.
"I hope I'll see you soon, Shiro." Sil said as he gave him a hug.
"You better do those voice calls again, I don't want another incident of us getting busy and forgetting again." Shiro nudged.
Sil gave him a pat on the back, before he waved and left to get picked up by a ship. He could see Borden driving it before they flew off. It was a brief look at the guy who's his clone, but despite the two having several identical features, Sil didn't get a sense of looking at the man who was his father.
'If only everyone else saw me like that.' Sil thought.
He noticed that Vicky was acting strange, jumping at the sight of him twice, and giving him gel strips for his beard. Earlier today, he could've sworn she mouthed the name of the man, but he wasn't sure of it. Even Vorden told him to shave when he visited.
He wanted to move on, to get over the past of what his father had done, and to not let him haunt them again. Sil told himself he was going to be stronger when the reminders came back, and he was trying his best, but everyone else couldn't.
The three of them went back to their ship, and it was a rather silent ride. Sil was sitting next to the window again, thinking about his sister and brother-in-law's actions. Nothing happened for a bit, until Vicky and Logan came to the seat opposite to Sil's. They brought a tenseness to the air.
"Sil, there's something we need to tell you."
