Chapter 1407 1407: What now?
Now that we had accomplished our goal and retrieved this Relic of Destruction, there wasn't anything left for us to do except head back up above ground.
The people from the Democratic Union would no doubt be anxious to hear the news that the Relic of Destruction was sealed.
Though we wouldn't actually mention anything about the Relic of Destruction to them.
Even if we had to mention it previously to get them to come to these ruins, that didn't mean that we would tell them that we had actually brought it back. At most, we would just tell them that we had destroyed it.
If the president of the Democratic Union were to learn of the Relic of Destruction, there was no doubt that he would want to take it for himself.
That was just the kind of person that president of the Democratic Union was.
It wouldn't be too late for him to find out about it after the Relic of Destruction was sealed, but he couldn't find out about it before it was sealed.
This was something that all of us agreed upon when we were leaving these ruins.
But there was another question that was asked.
"What do we do with this Relic of Destruction now?"
The one that actually asked this question wasn't me, but rather the two popes.
I looked at them with strange looks when I heard this. After all, from what I had heard from the gods, they should have already been sent an oracle about what to do with the Relics of Destruction.
They were supposed to be sealed in places where the power of the gods gathered.
That was in the Holy Empire where the churches were built for the gods, the places where the faith of the people gathered and where gods wielded the most power.
But for the popes to suddenly ask something like this, were they trying to get out of sealing these Relics of Destruction?
The Relics of Destruction were the powerful relics of the God of Destruction, which meant that they were dangerous things to keep. If they weren't properly cared for, they would naturally cause a disaster.
Were they afraid of this, so they didn't want to keep them anymore?
The popes seemed to notice the look that was on my face, so they said, "We've already prepared the locations to seal the Relics of Destruction already as per the oracle. It's just that after seeing the power that was released by the Relic of Destruction, it really feels like it wouldn't be enough. It feels like these Relics of Destruction need a higher power to seal them."
While saying this, they were looking at the hand that had the Mark of God.
It was very clear what they were implying even though they didn't say it directly.
Only it wasn't as easy for me to accept.
It was true that the Mark of God was closer to the power of the gods, but there was another problem.
It was the problem of me being able to control the Relic of Destruction.
Keeping the Relic of Destruction near me didn't seem like a good idea when this was a possibility.
There was no telling what would happen if I were to keep the Relic of Destruction by my side like this.
It might be possible that the Relic of Destruction might even go on a rampage one day because of me.
So it certainly was too risky to keep it by my side.
"For now, keep it sealed in the places that you've prepared. If there's ever a problem, I'll come and help." That was the only promise that I could make.
I couldn't just take responsibility for the Relic of Destruction now.
The two popes seemed like they were hesitating over something. It even seemed like they couldn't accept this answer with the way that they were looking at me.
But in the end, the two of them folded and nodded in response to my suggestion.
It seemed that their faith in the gods kept them from arguing with me on this matter.
Partly because of the oracles that they received previously and partly because of the Mark of God on my hand.
With that decided, I handed the Relic of Destruction over to the two popes.
They looked like they wanted me to hold onto this until we were back in the Holy Empire, but I just couldn't risk it. I wanted to get this thing as far away from me as possible, just in case something happened.
So in the end, they had no choice but to take it since I refused to carry it with me.
The only other thing that I had to ask during this time was…
"What are you planning on doing now?" I asked Aisha who had been silently following us the entire time.
After meeting up with the rest of my group, Aisha had been silent the entire time.
She had an excited look which showed exactly what she was thinking.
Even if she had been silent, she had been observing everything while being filled with interest. She was particularly interested in the Mark of God that was on my hand since that was what she had been looking at until I said something.
Previously, Aisha had been interested in the relics and now she was interested in the Mark of God.
It was clear that her interest lay with the powers of the gods.
But shouldn't she already have a connection with Vivrum since she was a high elf?
The high elves were the ones that were the closest to Vivrum after all and as one of the high elves with the purest bloodline, Aisha should have been very closely connected to Vivrum.
Just this divine power shouldn't have been enough to get her interest like this.
But when she looked up at me, she just said with a smile, "It seems that interesting things happen around you, so I'll come with you for now."
A bitter smile appeared on my face when I heard this, but I didn't refuse her.
