Chapter 829: Why Him?
Kenneth sharply inhaled through his mouth and restlessly waited for Scarlett to reveal 'who' that person was who apparently… bought her.
'There is a high probability that this person is my father.' That was what Kenneth had in his mind as he waited for Scarlett to gather her composure and finally reveal the name.
Scarlett kept on hugging herself as she uttered in a whisper that was filled with so much deep-rooted hatred that the veins on her temple began to visibly bulge. "It was someone who wasn't even invited to the auction in the first place. Someone who shouldn't have been there at all, not even by accident."
"Who was he?" Kenneth asked, unable to bear the curiosity.
Scarlett sniffled and looked at her son. And she whispered while looking distraught, "It was the King."
"The… King…" Kenneth repeated while raising his brows and inhaling deeply through his mouth. His lips stayed apart, and his eyes were wide, shocked after learning something that he never expected.
Damien was also utterly shocked. He didn't speak but he did work his brain a little too much. 'Which King? Does she mean King Conall? Is that whom Kenneth received his werewolf curse from?'
His eyes widened in shock when he further thought, 'Wait! Doesn't that make Crown Prince Wulfric and Prince Fenris Kenneth's half-brothers? And technically, doesn't that make Kenneth Ariel's uncle… since he is the uncle of the twins as well as Zack?'
In his shocked state, Damien slowly lifted his palm and covered his mouth, and began to shift his gaze between Kenneth and Scarlett.
While the room was embraced by a deafening silence, Kenneth was also thinking along the same line as Damien. 'Does that mean… my father is… the King of this Kingdom?'
He furrowed his brows and further thought, 'Is that why I was abandoned? Because I was a bastard son that the King never wanted?'
Something didn't make sense in his head though. He lifted his eyes and watched Scarlett closely, her eyes, to be more precise. 'Aren't vampires supposed to have red eyes though? Why her eyes light are brown in color? And…'
He furrowed his brows and recalled the warmth that he had felt when he had held her hands. 'And she isn't cold. Why is she not cold? Not just that… the villagers wouldn't let her stay here if she was a vampire, would they?' Continue your adventure at My Virtual Library Empire
Since Kenneth was a half-vampire and half-werewolf, he naturally thought that it was his mother who was a vampire. It wouldn't make sense otherwise because he was sure that she wasn't a werewolf. She didn't have that distinct werewolf smell at all.
And since she just said that it was the King who had bought her, it was already clear to him that he got the werewolf gene from his father.
Kenneth was suddenly startled when Scarlett resumed talking again.
"At that time, when I found out that it was the King who had won my deflowering bidding, I thought I was very lucky." Scarlett's eyes were fixated vacantly as she continuously shook her head and mumbled in a horrified tone, "I didn't know how far away from the truth I was."
"Did he treat you that badly?" Damien unintentionally broke his silence because though he had heard that King Conall was a very hot-headed and strict man, he had never heard anyone questioning his virtue.
He took a deep breath and mumbled while lowering his head, "To be honest, I had never once heard that King Conall took mistresses. And it's somewhat hard to believe that he would–"
"I never said it was King Conall," Scarlett stopped Damien in a horrified tone. "King Conall isn't the one who…" She coughed when she suddenly felt a lump in her throat.
Damien and Kenneth exchanged a questioning glance with each other. They understood that they both had misunderstood Scarlett.
Kenneth leaned forward and asked Scarlett rather restlessly, "Who were you referring to then? When you said that it was the King?"
"Ah!" Scarlett dabbed her damp cheeks when she realized how vague she was when she was telling such an important story to her son. "I'm sorry for creating the confusion. I should have made it clearer."
She gulped forcefully and then took a deep breath before revealing something which came as a shock to both Kenneth and Damien. "I am not originally from Aberdeen. I am from Veritas Village, which is in Mihir."
"Mihir?!"
Both Kenneth and Damien exclaimed in unison. It wasn't just a mild shock for the two of them. They were stunned beyond their comprehension level. And they both turned into human statues.
"Uh…" Scarlett looked down, unable to bear the shocked glare from both of the lads. And she mumbled further, "I only came here to this Kingdom and settled in this particular village because the witch had asked me to settle down here. She told me that…"
She stole a quick glance at Kenneth and said, "She told me that you would come and find me here."
"Argh!" Kenneth suddenly groaned in pain and grabbed his head because he felt a splitting headache.
The amount of discomfort that he felt after that great revelation from Scarlett was way too much for his mind to handle.
Damien, on the other hand, sighed as if he could understand Kenneth's pain. After all, he had already been through a situation very similar to Kenneth's.
He also deeply hated the fact that his father was someone who was worse of the worst.
"A-Are you okay?" Scarlett lifted her hand to touch her son's head but her hand stopped midair. "C-Can I do something to help you?" she was worried to see her son grimacing and clenching his jaw in pain.
"Give me a moment." Kenneth abruptly got up from his seat and rushed outside.
He grabbed the wooden pillar of the house and crouched. Then he clenched his palm over his heart and began to pant as though he was in actual physical pain.
'Why?' He closed his eyes and sat down on the porch. And he grabbed his hair and groaned in a pain-filled whisper, "Why him?"
