She Belongs To The Devil

Chapter 824: An Old House

Amity led both Damien and Kenneth down the same road.

The boys were both glad to have found someone who was actually ready to help them considering how most of the villagers weren't exactly being very kind to them.

After walking for about fifteen minutes and taking a few turns along the way, the three of them found themselves approaching the edge of the village. They could clearly see how the territory of the village was going to end soon and the territory of the forest was going to start.

"So, are we close yet?" Kenneth asked a bit restlessly when his eyes fell on the forest ahead.

Although he didn't want to question the helpful nature of Amity, he couldn't help but have a tiny level of suspicion in his heart.

"What if she somehow knows that I am the Crown Prince and she is trying to lead us to a trap instead?" Kenneth was thinking to himself.

Amity, however, gave the sweetest smile to him and excitedly pointed at one of the old-looking houses a few steps ahead of them. "There it is. That used to be Miriam's old house."

Both Kenneth and Damien instantly turned their heads to look in the direction that Amity was pointing at. The house was already on the verge of collapsing down, maybe because it lacked maintenance since no one had been staying there.

Kenneth instantly darted his hawk-eyed glance around the surrounding of that old house.

According to Miriam, Scarlett was their neighbor. So, Kenneth was looking at the houses in the vicinity to see if he could spot this woman that Miriam was talking about.

He didn't see any woman around though. However, he did notice a house that almost looked as old as Miriam's house. The only difference was that this house looked well-maintained and also had a nice little garden at the front.

Kenneth looked at Damien to see that Damien was also staring at the same house as him. "Should we go and see if anyone lives there?" he asked.

Damien gave an approving nod to Kenneth. Deep down, he had a feeling that their search was about to come to an end. Kenneth also hoped that they wouldn't have to wander around for long.

Before going to check, the two of them turned around to thank the lady.

"We really appreciate your help, Miss Amity. Thank you for leading us here," Kenneth said with a grateful smile on his face.

Damien also gave a smile and an appreciative nod to the lady.

Amity wasn't sure if they would find the person who they were actually searching for. But she didn't feel like they would like it if she kept on lingering around when her job was already done.

Thus, she politely bowed to the two gentlemen and decided to take her leave from there. "I am glad that I could be of help to both of you. And I hope that you will find who you are seeking."

"I sure hope so," Kenneth said with eyes full of hope.

After Amity started to walk back towards her destination, Damien and Kenneth turned around to look at the old house again. After exchanging a glance with each other, they began inching closer toward the house.

With every few steps he took, Kenneth was also taking a deep breath to calm down his nerves. The more he walked, the more he was feeling as if his legs were getting weaker and weaker. And he himself was surprised by how his body was reacting, which it had rarely done before.

"Why am I getting this anxious for no reason?" Kenneth questioned himself in his head and clasped his palms together.

Damien could also see how the subtle aura that always surrounded Kenneth was now starting to get denser and looked as if they were jumping around haphazardly, trying to escape.

Damien felt a little bad seeing Kenneth panicking out of his wits. He patted Kenneth on the shoulder and said in a consoling tone, "Everything will be okay."

Although what Damien said was just a simple phrase, Kenneth really needed to hear it.

And seeing how his words were actually having some effect on Kenneth's psyche, Damien further elaborated his kind words, "Trust me, things can't get any worse for you. Worst of the worst, you will get to hear from your birthmother why she abandoned you as a child, which you have more or less guessed already. So, keep your expectation at rock bottom. If you do so, it can only get better after that."

Damien's words made great sense to Kenneth. He heaved a deep sigh and gave a nod to Damien.

And he softly mumbled to calm his own heart, "That's right. I have nothing to fear. At most, she might still resent me for being born a hybrid. And she might not want to rekindle the nonexistent relationship again. But… I think I can handle it. All I need right now is the truth.

I want to hear why she did what she did."

After saying that to himself, Kenneth's accelerating heartbeat slowly started calming down again.

The two of the lads were now standing in front of the garden. They both couldn't help but stare at the garden in awe.

Although it was the winter season, several plants and trees were bearing beautiful flowers and fruits. There was no way that the passerby wouldn't get enchanted by that attractive garden.

And Kenneth and Damien were no exception. For a moment, both of them forgot their pain and trouble and got lost in the exquisiteness of the fragrant flowers.

Their moment of serenity was, however, disrupted when they suddenly heard the door getting unlocked from inside the house. Simultaneously, both of them felt a sudden prickle in their hearts since the anxiety abruptly kicked in again.

Both of them eagerly glued their eyes to the door to see the person who was opening the door.

Although Kenneth had promised not to be anxious or afraid when the time for the great reveal came, he couldn't help but feel that way again.

As the door slowly began to creak open, he saw a silhouette of a woman.

However, he couldn't still see the face of that woman that clearly. The woman was taking her time in fully opening that door.

And never in his life had Kenneth felt the time passing this slowly.

As he prayed for the woman to quickly come out, he gulped and restlessly thought to himself, "Come on! Please show your face to me."
