Sharingan Evolution: Proficiency's Path

Chapter 123: Chapter 123: The Mission

"Three Tomoe Sharingan, as expected! You're Uchiha Seimei, right? Very good, excellent!"

Inside a tent at the main camp, an Uchiha jonin stared into Seimei's eyes, speaking excitedly.

It had been ten days since Seimei awakened his Three Tomoe Sharingan, and word of him being a genius within the Uchiha clan had started to spread. As soon as he returned to the main camp, the Uchiha clan sent a jonin to confirm the news.

This jonin was someone Seimei was familiar with—the same one who had given him Uchiha-style swordsmanship techniques and tips on using the Sharingan after his abilities were first revealed.

"Haha!" The man laughed heartily. "Our Uchiha clan has produced not one, but two geniuses at once. Truly something to celebrate!"

"Two?" Seimei asked, feigning surprise.

The jonin blinked for a moment, then quickly caught on. "Oh, right. You've been on the western front these past few days, so you wouldn't know. There's a young man up north named Uchiha Shisui who also awakened his Three Tomoe Sharingan recently."

Hearing this, Seimei showed a surprised expression but thought inwardly, 'So, it's him.'

"You two came to the battlefield around the same time, didn't you? Do you know him?" the jonin asked.

Seimei showed more visible surprise and replied, "He awakened his Three Tomoe Sharingan too?"

"Haha!" The jonin seemed pleased with Seimei's reaction. He clapped Seimei on the shoulder and said with a mix of pride and wistfulness, "Yes, that kid... is something else."

Seimei could understand the jonin's mixed feelings. After all, seeing someone much younger rapidly reach your level of strength could make anyone feel a bit defeated.

'Maybe part of that feeling comes from being compared to me as well...' Seimei thought with a wry smile.

After a long pause, the Uchiha jonin finally said, "Now that you've awakened your Three Tomoe Sharingan, it's time to prepare for your jonin promotion. Don't worry about the details; just get ready. A challenging mission will likely be assigned to you soon."

"A mission to evaluate me?" Seimei asked.

"Exactly." The jonin nodded. "While officially, all it takes to promote a ninja to jonin is a recommendation from three existing jonin, the village usually assigns a mission to test the recommended person's capabilities, to ensure they're truly ready. So, you can consider the mission your jonin exam."

"I see." Seimei fell silent for a moment, then said sincerely, "Thank you for the advice, uncle."

The jonin waved it off, saying, "There's no need for thanks. The mission will likely come in three to five days, maybe a week at most, so just prepare yourself."

"I understand, uncle."

The jonin then said, "Well, I have other matters to attend to, so I'll be going now."

"I'll see you off," Seimei responded.

After escorting the jonin out of the tent and watching him disappear into the distance, Seimei stood still for a long time, lost in thought.

Eventually, he snapped out of it and headed back to his tent. Without hesitation, he created a shadow clone to remain at the camp while his real body quietly left, heading toward the western frontlines.

Yes, Seimei had returned to the main camp himself, not relying on a clone this time. The potential attention that would come from awakening the Three Tomoe Sharingan made it necessary for him to personally be there.

Sure enough, the Uchiha clan had sent a jonin to verify the situation. While the Sharingan couldn't see through a shadow clone, the clone's fabricated Sharingan was a major giveaway. Prolonged interaction with another Uchiha, especially one with the same level of Sharingan, could have exposed the ruse.

To avoid any unnecessary risks, Seimei had returned in person, managing to handle everything without raising suspicion. Now that his task at the main camp was complete, it was time to return to the underground cavern and wrap things up there.

After several hours, Seimei arrived back at the familiar underground hideout.

Given that he wouldn't be able to return here for a long time, he knew the eleven captive Sand ninja couldn't be left alive much longer. Of course, there was no need to dispose of them immediately—he still had a few days before his mission would be assigned, which meant he could extract chakra from them for a little longer.

It would be a shame to waste such a convenient supply of chakra, after all. With that in mind, Seimei increased the rate of chakra extraction over the next few days, yielding nearly 30% more than before.

However, this also meant the Sand ninja's life forces were rapidly draining. A few more rounds of this and they'd die on their own without Seimei having to lift a finger.

Seimei glanced at them briefly before turning away, uninterested.

...

A week passed in the blink of an eye.

At midday, Seimei was practicing his Mind Reading Technique, quietly meditating on the changes in his Sharingan when suddenly a flood of memories surged into his mind. His brow furrowed as he quickly sifted through the new information.

Moments later, he opened his eyes and murmured, "So, the mission's begun..."

These were the memories of the shadow clone left behind at the camp. The clone had just received the mission and left the camp, heading toward the target location.

Of course, that was only a front. The clone had dispelled itself shortly after departing, transmitting the relevant memories back to Seimei. From here on, Seimei himself would take over the mission.

"Go to the Land of Earth, gather intelligence on the current war between Iwagakure and Kumogakure, document their losses, especially Iwagakure's, and provide this information to help the camp formulate a counterattack plan," Seimei muttered to himself, a strange look crossing his face.

"A counterattack? Are they serious?"

If he remembered correctly, the situation was that although Kumogakure had caught Iwagakure off guard with a sudden advance, nearly reaching their doorstep, it was all part of Iwagakure's strategy to lure them in.

The Tsuchikage, Onoki, was likely already preparing to encircle the elite Kumogakure forces, led by the Third Raikage himself.

If the butterfly effect hadn't drastically altered things, the Third Raikage would soon find himself in a desperate battle, fending off ten thousand Iwagakure ninja to allow his troops to retreat.

While the elite forces would escape, the Third Raikage would ultimately sacrifice his life. This would devastate Kumogakure's morale, while Iwagakure's troops, emboldened by their victory, would launch a massive offensive.

"Counterattack? They should be worried about holding the line..." Seimei shook his head, no longer dwelling on the matter as he turned his attention to the Sand ninja in the cavern.
