Shadow Reckoning

Chapter 22: Chapter 20: The Fall

Shade woke up in chains.

His wrists were shackled above his head, his body slumped against a cold stone wall. His ribs ached, his vision blurry.

He wasn't alone.

Selene stood before him, arms crossed, watching. "You know, I really did like you."

Shade's voice was hoarse. "Funny way of showing it."

Selene crouched, brushing her fingers over his jaw. "You never would've joined us. And Lucian—he wants you broken."

Shade forced a smirk. "He should've killed me."

Selene chuckled. "Oh, darling. He's saving you."

Shade narrowed his eyes. "For what?"

Selene leaned in, her lips a breath away from his.

Then she whispered, "For something worse."

She kissed him—slow, deep, possessive. Shade bit back a groan, his body betraying him.

Then she pulled back, smirking. "Try not to die before the fun starts."

She stood and walked away, disappearing through the iron door.

Shade exhaled, shaking.

His blood was on fire.

His enemies were closing in.

And worst of all?

He wasn't sure he wanted to stop.
