Chapter 48: Awakenings.
"Mmngh…" Her eyes fluttered open, seeing the small, slowly spinning ceiling fan in her room. Her and Crow's room. Theirs. Her chest rose and fell with every breath, and she pushed herself up, groaning softly. Exhaustion still lay heavy behind her eyes, one still bright in the dark room. Her hand rubbed her face, as she swung her legs over the side. She could hear soft laughter beyond the door, closed. Light shone in the crack under the door, and she smiled softly, standing up.
What was left of the gash in her stomach pulled, sending a small spike of pain up her side. Jason whirred awake from his perch, nudging her hand with his shell. It took her a minute to gather her balance, and her eyes, one shining in the dim light, blinked slowly. Yetta's hand, covered in faintly glowing scars from the Arc, reached for the doorknob, turning it.
Crow stood on the other side, his face breaking out into a wide smile. She smiled back, resting her head into his chest. "Good morning," he whispered into her hair, still messy from the night before. She hummed, wrapping her arms around him.
His hands tangled into her red curls, and he swayed them back and forth. "Do you want coffee?" he asked after a minute of quiet.
This was safe. This was normal.
