Second Chances [The Dudley Story]

Chapter 29: Chapter 29 - Proposals & Accusations II

Soon, he dressed up neatly in modern clothes, but never overdid it by wearing suits. Just a simple shirt, pants, and formal shoes with sleeves folded. His rented luxury car was no longer a sedan but a van instead since it gave way for a nice, recliner seat with massage features and whatnot. He liked it far more than any other car.

Yet again, he couldn't wait to learn Apparition.

Regardless, he arrived at his London office in a few hours and held a quick meeting. It was time to expand D&D Capital by hiring some more core Senior Associates. So, with Edwin Hughes' aid, he started to look through the resumes of men he knew from his past life.

Soon enough, he found two candidates. A man named Peter Williams, a twenty-year veteran already with great insight. Dudley selected the man for the Real Estate side of the business. He then selected Rupert Davis as Senior Associate for showbiz. From movies to shows to anything concerning entertainment.

With that, he finally had the blueprint of the future behemoth that D&D Capital was going to be. Finance, Real Estate, and Entertainment.

"I've only got two weeks, Edwin. Call these two in for a meeting here at the office. I'll interview them myself, see if they can follow instructions while still thinking for themselves," Dudley decided and then looked at a few other names. Just hiring the Senior Associates wasn't going to help. He needed more assisting staff to fill the cabins. "I'll also be setting up an independent HR department to report directly to me. Make sure to remind everyone to keep their behavior professional."

Knock! Knock!

Dudley paused and looked at the door of his luxurious office. It opened and his assistant peeked inside delicately. She fixed her glasses and reported. "Boss, a man named Lucius Malfoy says he has an appointment with you. I can't find it in the schedule."

Oh? Dudley stood up. The bee appears; smelling the honey?

"Bring him in. This one's a private matter."

Edwin understood the meaning and gathered his files before leaving the room. A few minutes later, the door opened again and a regally dressed Lucius Malfoy walked in. The man looked like a clown in Dudley's eyes.

Long leather coat, draping blonde hair, and a cane in his hand. The man didn't even try to fit in with the muggles. But again, Lucius had no reason or desire to fit in.

"Mr. Malfoy." Dudley welcomed him by simply standing where his seat was. "Please, have a seat."

Lucius was looking around the whole time, staring at the various decorations, expensive wood interiors, and everything else that resembled the epitome of opulence. The entire office was a show of wealth, not some simple workspace.

Money was power, even in the magical world. But Lucius also had a family history, reach, and influence to match it. In his eyes, Dudley was just a small fry who got rich because of luck.

Thud!

Lucius stopped knocking his cane on the floor and took a seat in front of Dudley. He stared at the young Wizard the same age as his son, unable to stop himself from feeling a hint of jealousy. He wished Draco was like this.

"I heard about the bet you made with my son." Lucius started straight from the point. "It is reassuring, at least, that you seem capable of honoring it when you lose."

"If I lose." Dudley playfully corrected him. "Besides, it's just friendly banter."

For a while, Lucius stayed silent, observing every little hint of change on Dudley's face. To his disappointment, he found nothing but pride and confidence in Dudley's expressions.

"You have my attention if that's what you were seeking," Lucius stated.

As expected. He's no fool. Dudley nodded and opened his table drawer. He took out a thick stack of folders and pushed it towards Lucius.

"Have a look, Mr. Malfoy. It took me some time to calculate, and with whatever information was available, I was able to calculate the losses we wizards face due to the inefficiency of Goblins and their personal greed. Your account is also mentioned."

Hearing the mention of his account, Lucious took off his leather gloves and turned the pages of the file. At first, he had a sneer on his face, but eventually, it shaped into a displeased frown.

"A thirty percent loss? Do you have any idea how large that figure is when concerned with my wealth?" Lucius asked him, his tone showing his disbelief. "The Goblins know they can't afford to anger us—"

"Do they have to? Whenever you walk into Gringotts, do you not feel their loathing? Their disgusted gaze? Their greedy little hands playing with gold? They don't care, Mr. Malfoy, because they hold the wealth of the wizarding world. They do it because they have nobody to compete with. Why does one Quidditch team try harder than another? Because they've got competition. But Gringotts? What reason do they have to improve?"

Lucius hummed and focused on Dudley. "What do you propose?"

"A bank," Dudley said with a hint of pride, carefully explaining his plan. "...If you join in, your wealth could grow tenfold. You'll have equity in the bank based on what you invest, but I'd handle the managing and controlling side since I'll be guaranteeing all the money. I've already lined up other investors—I'm meeting Mrs. Zabini about it soon."

Lucius sneered at that name. He was well aware of how Mrs. Zabini gathered her wealth. But he didn't bother with it for now. He was more curious about Dudley's idea. In matters of money, he had enough brain to put profits first and everything else second. It was a fact that Dudley was among the richest in the world already, and the speed was unfathomable.

The blonde-haired pureblood went on to ask dozens of questions to Dudley.

Meanwhile, Dudley silently schemed on how he was going to dilute the fuck out of Lucius' share in the bank. His idea was simple, he'd continue to pump his own money into the bank as an investment fund. He'll force Lucius to invest everything he has to keep up with Dudley and avoid decreasing his share. Eventually, Dudley planned to use Lucius' affiliation with the Dark Lord to deem all Malfoy assets illegal. At that point, he'd just need to buy that seized share. The plan was the same for other pureblood families who'd invest.

The real trick was in the fact that most rich wizards were generational rich. They didn't have any money-making assets. Meanwhile, Dudley had a stock market gold mine equivalent in his memories.

But still, Lucius was going to be the happiest man in the world when the profits poured in for the first few years.

"Eventually, I want to build a bank just for the wizards, by the wizards. We'll take everything away from those bastard Goblins until they have nothing left. We'll see if they still look down on us."

Lucius smirked, finding something in common with Dudley at least, despite their different blood status.

At that point, more than an hour had already passed. Lucius, to his own surprise, failed to realize how much he had spoken with Dudley. It shocked him to remember that Dudley was the same age as his son, yet the difference in their mental maturity was so grand.

"I shall consider your proposal and provide my answer within two days," Lucius stood up to leave. "Should you succeed in rallying others to your cause, I would, of course, be inclined to invest."

Dudley also stood up and extended his hand towards the man, trying to see if he would shake it.

A sneer formed on Lucius' face. The man quickly put on his leather gloves and then shook Dudley's hand.

Dudley watched the man leave through the door. In his heart, he felt bitter. It was clear by the gesture. No matter what, Lucius was incapable of putting behind his pureblood rotten ideology.

Yeah, I'm going to ruin you beyond your worst nightmares, Malfoy.

Mrs. Zabini was a famed woman in the wizarding circle. The rumors about her weren't just limited to Britain either. No, they traveled far and wide beyond the pond. Yet, the woman didn't care about them and lived her life in utter luxury.

Described by many as ethereally beautiful, the woman married seven wizards who each died in mysterious circumstances, leaving her with a large amount of wealth from each. Enough wealth to last her generations. Enough wealth to make her one of the richest witches in the country.

And for money, Dudley Dursley found himself standing in front of the massive mansion's entrance. Dressed in a fine, black suit, his hair done neatly, he had come for the planned dinner with the woman.

Let's be careful with this one. She might just be a bloody succubus at this point.
