Chapter 5: Site 01 - The First Class-D
(A/N: Not dead! Work and university gave me barely any time to work on this chapter (maybe 150 words each day... But here's the new chapter!)

{Day 3 - January 16th, 2010}
Eight researchers stand in the Inanimate Sector of the LCZ, observing the first anomaly in containment: SCP-002. Some hold clipboards and write initial notes on their observation. Just behind them, two of the Security Officers tasked with guarding the LCZ watch over them to ensure the security of the SCP, and the protection of the researchers.
"Item Number: SCP-002.... Object Class: Euclid." One of the Senior Researchers speaks aloud as he continues to write on the clipboard. "Special Containment Procedures... Not-Applicable, testing ongoing."
The Senior Researcher enters the Containment Chamber, one Security Officer follows close behind, standing off to the side to observe the Senior Researcher. The Senior Researcher glances across the book, and begins to take notes. "Description: SCP-002 resembles a standard hardcover book, the front cover feature a title written in an unknown dialect that does not match any currently known languages. No publisher date, author, or other identifying information can be found on the cover nor first few pages of the book." The Senior Researcher continues to write down on the notepad, speaking aloud for the other Researchers to hear.
Flipping the page on the clipboard, the Senior Researcher continues to write. "Readers of the book gain an yet-unknown method to read the book. "The Administrator has noted that it is known as the 'Darkhold', others who have read the book also note another title of 'Dialogue and Rhetoric: Known history of Learning and Debate'. Effects of the book beyond linguistic manipulation are yet unknown. See test log."
Putting away the clipboard, the Senior Researcher exits the Containment Chamber and walks towards one of the researchers of his group. "Create a copy of this, and archive it. The Light Containment Zone should have a location to archive the document. Label it 'Level-3-Euclid', and then print two more copies. One will go to the Administrator, the other to my Senior Researcher colleague." handing the clipboard to the Researcher, they exit the Inanimate Sector and begin to search for where to archive and print the document.
"Alright, everyone!" The Senior Researcher claps their hands together. "Let's get to work. Got to figure out what this anomaly does, and a proper containment plan!"
Immediately following the announcement from the Senior Researcher, the LCZ turns into a hive of activity- Security Officers moving between the Inanimate Sector and the primary LCZ, and the Researchers documenting data and theorizing the origins and possible capabilities of the newly contained SCP .
[]
Back in the Administration Office, I observed the Researchers through the security terminals on my desk. The two Security Officers continued to supervise their activities, whilst the Researchers studied the new SCP in containment.
Turning away from the screens, I consider what my next move should be... 'I could wait for the Researchers to provide results, which might take as short as a few hours, to as long as a few weeks... Or...'
Finishing my thought, I remember a portion of the System I hadn't explored. "Menu... Administration", the maroon system shimmering into existence before me.
[ SCP System - Administration ]
[ - Facility/Site
- Personal Equipment
- Resources
- Trading ]
'Trading I get the gist of... Probably SCP Tokens or unique substances and items... Personal Equipment?' I focus on the Resources tab of the menu, before deciding to open it.
"Resources." I state out loud to the System.
[ SCP System - Administration - Resources ]
[ - Clearance Level 0
- Clearance Level 1
- Clearance Level 2
- Clearance Level 3
- Clearance Level 4
- Clearance Level 5
- Thaumiel Clearance ]
'Another clearance structure... Like the shop.' I think to myself. Pondering on this, I think back to the shop which seemed to provide for my personal equipment in my inventory. This menu however, extends across the entire Site.
"Clearance Level 0" I order the system, the screen shimmering into a new list.
[ SCP System - Administration - Resources - CL-0 ]
[ - Mops (x4 - 4 SCP Tokens)
- Buckets (x4 - 4 SCP Tokens)
- Class-D Uniforms (x1 - 1 SCP Token)
- Science Package (x1 - 5 SCP Tokens)
- ... ]
'Alright. Similar to the shop then.'
'Class-D uniforms could be useful... We'll need them eventually'.
"Class-D Uniform." I state to the system, a brief flash of light appears before a small box of orange uniforms lay at my feet. Grabbing a hold of one, their texture felt like an odd combination of cotton and polyester.
[ Verifying Purchase... Confirmed! ]
[ One SCP Token Deducted - (14) SCP Tokens Remaining ]
Placing the uniform back into the box, I step out of the administration office and wave down one of the Security Officers down the hall. Walking over, the guard stops in front of me.
"Please take these uniforms into the LCZ. There should be a storage room of sorts that these can be stored." I order the Security Officer. They nod and walk into the office, before heaving and carrying the box of uniforms out towards the LCZ.
Heading back into the office, I head to the desk and open a drawer with the handgun and place it in the holster on the belt of my BDU.
"Inventory. Equip Gas-Mask." I order the system, the tailored-fit of the Gas-Mask appears over my face, the straps embracing my head under an attached hood slipping beneath the collar of my BDU to form a seal.
Checking that the gas-mask doesn't have any air leaks, I exit my administration office and head for the entrance to the site. Nodding towards the Security Officer guarding the entrance, he swipes his clearance keycard, opening the gate.
Loud hissing can be heard as the gate releases the hydraulic locks, and grinds open as metal slides against metal.
Stepping outside the gate and walking through the corridor, I hear the click of the keycard behind me, before the gate begins to close behind me. 'At least the Security Officers will ensure this place stays working...' I think to myself, as I continue walking towards the ladder at the end of the corridor.
Climbing up the ladder, I reach the eye-scanner to exit Site-01. A brief flash blinds my vision as it scans my retinas through the lenses of my gas mask, the hatch then slowly opening as the pistons raise the heavy hatch.
Crawling out, I take a quick glance around the fake office; a thin layer of dust had built up over the desk and chair, particles floating through the air as they are illuminated by light peering through the skylights.
Exiting the office, I walk through the warehouse and onto the streets of Lunenburg, the position of the sun roughly some point in the evening.
'New goal... Find candidates for Class-D and Clearance Level Zero personnel.' I think to myself, setting an objective for myself.
With the new objective in mind, I retrace my first steps into Lunenburg. Behind me lays the warehouse, and by extension: Site-01. Further back than that lays the docks into the Atlantic Ocean, and the local archipelagos scattered across the eastern coast. Ahead of me I see the various shops I had come across when I first arrived- still bustling with activity in the evening.
Continuing through the streets, I see a number of possible candidates. 'Homeless... Addict... Someone breaking into a donation centre.... Yeah, there's my candidate.'
"Inventory... Class-A Amnestic." Grabbing the amnestic from my inventory, I place it in the front pocket of my BDU, before briefly checking my sidearm for a round in the chamber. Walking behind the man breaking into the centre, I glance around before striking him behind the head with the sidearm.
"Ow! What the fuck?!" He yells, before turning around, preparing to take a swing at me.
'I honestly thought that would work' I think to myself, before taking an awkward step backwards as the swing misses- and return a strike across his jaw, causing him to slump over to the ground.
With the criminal incapacitated, I lift him over my shoulders in a fireman carry, and slowly make my way back to the warehouse of Site-01. The effort being more than I expected.
Making the journey back to the safety of the Site took substantially longer than I had anticipated.
By the time I reached the warehouse, the sun was slowly sliding beyond the horizon, creating a hue of red and orange across the streets and buildings. Heading inside, I look for anything to be used like rope.
Finding a coil of copper wire on one of the racks. I carefully place the soon-to-be Class-D on the ground, his back facing one of the 'legs' of the racks. Checking he was still unconscious, I grab the coil of copper wire.
Using the copper wire, I tie his legs and arms together, before unceremoniously tying his torso to the leg of the racks and to an air ventilation pipe against the wall. Checking that the knots were secure, I leave for the office and scan my retina on the scanner, the hatch into the true facility groaning open.
Descending back into the Site, I go through the procedures to open the main blast gate, and look for one of the Security Officers. After a few minutes, I find one standing by the secondary gate to the LCZ.
"You, Officer" I remark towards the Security Officer. "Come with me for a moment. We have our first Class-D that needs to be addressed and prepared."
"Of course, Administrator" the Security Officer replies, following in my step as I turn back towards the main gate.

After half-an-hour of gradually carrying the criminal- now Class-, down into the main area of Site-01, we transported them to the LCZ into a humanoid containment chamber.
The chamber itself was simple: A single metallic bed, a toilet with a sink in the corner, and a windowless door to ensure who- or what- remains in the chamber. No sharp edges, nothing easily broken. Designed for the protection of the entity inside, and those outside.
Once the new Class-D was placed on the bed of the chamber, I waved the Security Officer out.
"Amnestic deployment, wait outside" I call to the Security Officer with a tone of finality. Any accidental contact with an amnestic poses the risks of its effects taking place- not a full dosage worth of an effect, but one nonetheless.
With the Security Officer outside, I take out the Class-A Amnestic from the pocket of my BDU. Getting a better look at it, its designed like it would deploy the amnestic as an aerosol. Taking that into account, I aim the nozzle towards the Class-D and spray the entirety of the vial.
Once its dispersed across the face of the Class-D, I pocket the amnestic and exit the cell, closing the door on my way out. Glancing towards the Security Officer, I address him.
"Go find a uniform for the Class-D. Nothing extra. And grab one of the Security Officers assigned for the LCZ, and place them on guard duty... We've got a few humanoid cells here. This will be re-designated as the 'D-block'."
Nodding, the Security Officer leaves to perform the instructions provided.
With the new Class-D being administered their new equipment, and no further tasks, I walk back through the LCZ and into the Entrance Area for my office. Once inside, I sit back behind my desk and view the various screens on the monitors.
With my brief duties completed, I close my eyes to relax. "The rest of the assignments can wait for later." I mumble to myself, as my consciousness drifts away.
