Chapter 686: Offering an Apology with a Willow Branch
"Distinguished guests and friends, the ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin shortly," the host said with an exhilarating tone.
Silence fell over the scene immediately.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was about to start, and with its conclusion, the listing ceremony would be officially over.
The Municipal Secretary said briefly, welcoming any enterprise groups that wished to settle in Linjiang City, and that they would likewise receive related policy benefits.
Then, seven qipao-clad beauties, each exuding sensuality, stepped onto the stage carrying trays. On the trays were yellow silk cloths, under which lay golden scissors.
The Municipal Secretary, clearly not new to ribbon-cutting, took the scissors with a smile and struck a ribbon-cutting pose for the cameras. After a flurry of flashes from the media journalists, he was the first to cut through the red ribbon, holding a red ribbon ball in his hand.
Click, click...
Everyone cut their ribbon balls and beamed with smiles.
Li Dapang held his ribbon ball and waved to the crowd.
Just then, a beautiful Rolls-Royce drove into the venue.
"How could I not be called for the ribbon-cutting when Hanmen Group is established?" boomed a loud voice.
Everyone turned around and immediately saw the impressive Rolls-Royce with a license plate bearing five consecutive nines—imposing and undeniably signifying the owner's supreme prestige.
From the car emerged a young, handsome man in a white suit, wearing a bow tie, and smiling.
"Who is that?"
"Don't recognize him, but he seems to be someone with clout."
"Is this man here to disrupt the event or to give his support?"
"Who knows, let's just wait and see. Feels like a lively day today!"
The guests at the scene were highly interested, their faces filled with curious and amused expressions.
Yang Lu glanced over but couldn't make out who it was.
At this moment, several security guards, in charge of maintaining order, hurried over, their leader asked politely, "Sir, do you have an invitation?"
"Yo, do I need an invitation to come here?" The man chuckled and said, "Go tell your supervisor to say that I'm the brother of the president of Hanmen Group."
There was a gasp from the crowd.
Xiao Han dared not make himself known within the crowd; from a distance, he recognized the arrival as Mo Shaocong.
It had never crossed his mind that Mo Shaocong would come, and of course, he felt that he had erred by not informing Mo Shaocong about such a significant event. He worried that Big Brother Mo would blame him. Xiao Han was perturbed, wanting to step forward to explain, yet he also felt awkward about doing so. Moreover, Mo Shaocong's high-profile entrance made Xiao Han hesitate, fearing it might stir suspicions if he appeared rashly.
"Is that Young Master Mo?" the Municipal Secretary spotted Mo Shaocong immediately and quickly approached him.
"Haha, Secretary Liu?" Mo Shaocong smiled and said, "You came to attend my brother's company's ribbon-cutting?"
"Your brother?" Secretary Liu looked puzzled at Mo Shaocong and asked, "May I know... who he is?"
"Young Master Mo." Yang Lu hurried over and said with a smile, "So it was you! I thought some deity had arrived; you certainly gave me quite a fright."
"Director Yang?" Mo Shaocong recognized Yang Lu and also Zhao Lizhong.
Yang Lu had sought Mo Shaocong's assistance twice while Hanmen Group was acquiring its certifications. Thus, the two were somewhat acquainted. Yang Lu quickly replied, "I don't deserve such courtesy, just call me Yang Lu. It's an honor for our Hanmen Group to have Young Master Mo grace us with your presence. It's also a privilege for me, Yang Lu."
"Where's Xiao Han?" Mo Shaocong asked, smiling.
"This…" Yang Lu looked at Mo Shaocong awkwardly, her eyes scanning the crowd from the corner of her eye.
Yang Lu was embarrassed. Mo Shaocong was known for his haughty demeanor; if she hadn't properly ushered him, it could jeopardize the relationship between Xiao Han and Mo Shaocong, potentially creating trouble. Mo Shaocong was the son of the Provincial Secretary, a connection that needed careful cultivation, as it could be of some assistance to Hanmen Group in times of difficulty or crisis.
Seeing the difficult expression on Yang Lu's face, Mo Shaocong immediately understood.
"Haha…" Mo Shaocong burst out laughing. "I get it. I specifically brought a flower basket as a token of my sentiments and to mark the bond between my brother Xiao Han and me!"
"Yes, yes," Yang Lu quickly nodded, looking much relieved as she apologetically added, "Young Master Mo, let me take you to the guest area to rest. Later... I'll have Xiao Han come to see you!"
"Alright!" Mo Shaocong nodded.
Yang Lu turned to Secretary Liu and said, "Secretary Liu, I'll be right back."
"Go ahead, take good care of our Young Master Mo," Secretary Liu replied with a smile.
"Yes, of course!" Yang Lu promptly agreed.
Shortly after, Yang Lu led Mo Shaocong to the guest area for a rest.
Mo Shaocong knew that Xiao Han would soon come to find him, so he stayed rather behaved in the guest area, sitting there without moving an inch. Soon, a voice reached his ears: "Big Brother Mo, you won't scold me, will you?"
Without turning his head, Mo Shaocong said, "What do you think?"
"Given the great relationship between us, I'd think not," Xiao Han chuckled.
"If our relationship were just average, I definitely wouldn't scold you. But since we're so close..." Mo Shaocong turned to look at Xiao Han and sneered, "So, what do you say?"
"Didn't I come here to apologize and make amends?" Xiao Han said, looking embarrassed.
"You..." Mo Shaocong huffed, "still dare talk to me about making amends?"
"What else could I do?" Xiao Han shrugged helplessly, "I've been so busy lately that I simply forgot to tell Yang Lu."
"You could remember all these insignificant people, yet you forgot about me," Mo Shaocong sneered.
"I…" Xiao Han looked embarrassed and said, "Actually… Sister Yang has been managing this event and I..."
"Forget it." Mo Shaocong waved his hand, then said, "I won't hold you responsible for this matter."
"Hehe..." Xiao Han chuckled, "Big Brother Mo is truly straightforward."
"There's another matter I came to you for today," Mo Shaocong said.
"Go ahead!" Xiao Han nodded.
"This matter is very important, you can't tell anyone," Mo Shaocong whispered in Xiao Han's ear.
"Don't worry, who could I even tell?" Xiao Han shook his head.
"It's like this..." Mo Shaocong leaned in and whispered into Xiao Han's ear, "A son of a great figure in the Central Government..."
After listening, Xiao Han's expression grew serious.
The situation was simple, nobles in the capital tended to enjoy underground boxing rings. Naturally, they played big - with heavy stakes. Their stakes were no small affair indeed. Last time, several nobles from Beijing had come to the provincial city to play, putting up gold mines, or parcels of land in the capital as bets. These were assets worth hundreds of millions, which seemed to them just like ordinary merchandise.
This time, the young nobleman lost big, not only his own money but also owing the casino several billion. He lost everything, disastrously. In desperation, he even bet his girlfriend, only to lose again. Helplessly, he watched as his girlfriend was taken away by someone else. With no other choice, he sought help from Mo Shaocong, who reportedly procured a top fighter in the provincial city last time.
And made a hefty promise.
So, Mo Shaocong hurriedly came looking for Xiao Han. Of course, Mo Shaocong's interest wasn't the hefty reward, but rather the young man's powerful background. If not for such a significant background, he most likely would not have readily helped.
Xiao Han smiled and said, "This should be happening abroad, right?"
"Yes!" Mo Shaocong nodded, "In Myanmar."
"The boxing bets even reach Myanmar?" Xiao Han said with a smile.
"I heard that's where the action is, so he followed others there," Mo Shaocong sighed, "This time, he's really in trouble. If he doesn't win, his career might be over once he returns. It could well be the end of his prospects."
Xiao Han sighed, then said, "Big Brother, even if we help him, what good will it do?"
"He's in a tough spot now. If I help him, he will remember this," Mo Shaocong smiled, "It will be extremely beneficial for my ventures in the capital. So, this time you must help me."
"Big Brother, I can promise you," Xiao Han nodded. "But, there should be a limit to everything."
"Agreed!" Mo Shaocong nodded.
He also understood that Xiao Han was reluctantly conceding. After all, no one wanted to enter the ring and fight for life. This kind of battling was like walking by the river; sooner or later your shoes would get wet. And if one day you could never return, wouldn't that be a problem?
"When do we go?" Xiao Han asked.
"The sooner, the better," Mo Shaocong said urgently.
"Then let's go," Xiao Han nodded. "I'll explain to them and then follow you."
"Xiao Han!" Mo Shaocong suddenly grabbed Xiao Han's shoulder, his eyes revealing an excited look, "Thank you. Thank you for all the help. I will always remember it."
"Big Brother, let's not speak of such things between brothers," Xiao Han smiled.
After quickly explaining a few things to Yang Lu, Xiao Han set off on the journey southward with Mo Shaocong.
They would fly directly from the provincial city to Myanmar.
Landing at Naypyidaw International Airport in Myanmar.
The capital of Myanmar used to be Yangon. A few years ago, the Myanmar government decided to move the capital from Yangon to Naypyidaw.
Naypyidaw, formerly known as Pyinmana, is Myanmar's third-largest city. It was a strategic military position and the base of the communist guerrillas during the independence war led by Myanmar's national hero General Aung San. Located in the narrow Xitang Valley between the Bogu and Bennong Mountain Ranges, it holds significant strategic importance. It is also a mountainous trade town between the former capital Yangon and the northern major city of Mandalay.
The urban development plan of Naypyidaw distinguishes hotel zones, residential zones, and government zones, among others. Spanning about 6,500 square kilometers, it is over nine times larger than Yangon City. Currently, it feels rather empty but is suitable for tourism and sightseeing, with many municipal facilities and buildings under construction.
