Rising Shadows: Uchiha's Wrath

Chapter 89: Chapter 89 The Fall of Rainbow Ninja Village

Nijigakure no Sato, known for its namesake village, Rainbow Ninja Village, is nestled among rolling hills blanketed in emerald foliage. A perpetual mist clung to the landscape, giving it an ethereal beauty. In the heart of the village, cherry blossoms painted the streets pink, their petals dancing in the air like whispers of a forgotten time. Though tranquil, a sense of unease lurked beneath the surface, hinting at the kingdom's vulnerability.

The village chief, a man of steely resolve despite his modest power, often found himself gazing out over his village with a mixture of pride and dread. His eyes, once filled with the fire of youthful ambition, now carried the weight of responsibility. Memories of his early days as a shinobi flooded his mind—days when he believed he could change the world. Those dreams seemed distant now, replaced by the grim reality of their plight. Though respected, he was only as powerful as an elite Jōnin at best. Unlike the five great nations, where Kage-level shinobi reigned supreme, the Rainbow Kingdom lacked such strength—their ninja techniques were basic, and their warriors, though brave, could not compare to the Mist Ninja Village's forces.

The Rainbow Kingdom's military power was divided into three groups. At the core was the Rainbow Ninja Village, forming their primary defence, though it was woefully underpowered. Even two moderately skilled Mist Ninjas could overpower the average ninja from Rainbow Village.

Then came the Daimyo's Guard, a force of a hundred mercenary ninjas, most of whom were wandering shinobi with mediocre abilities. These guards were primarily tasked with protecting the daimyo and lacked effectiveness in prolonged warfare.

Lastly, there was the Army of Ordinary Soldiers—a force of 4,000 conscripted civilians armed with little more than basic weapons. Their only advantage lay in the massive volley of arrows they could launch, which posed a threat only to unprepared Chūnin or lower-level ninjas.

Despite their efforts, the Rainbow Kingdom was no match for the Mist Ninja Village's hardened forces. Strengthened after the turmoil of the Bloody Mist era, the Mist sent 3,000 ninjas, most of whom were at least Chūnin level.

Among them was the infamous Kisame Hoshigaki, whose strength bordered on Kage-level.

Within five days of combat, Rainbow Kingdom's forces began to crumble. Desperation drove the daimyo to mobilize his elite guards, leaving only a small contingent to protect himself.

While this temporarily slowed the Mist's advance, it could not prevent the inevitable. After a month of mounting losses, the daimyo offered to surrender, promising resources and ceding territories. However, this plea fell on deaf ears. The daimyo of the Land of Water, now a puppet under Kaito's control, aiming for complete domination—nothing less than the entirety of the Rainbow Kingdom would suffice.

Kaito's control over the battlefield was absolute. He employed new tactics inspired by Nagato's Rain Tiger Freedom Technique. Unlike Nagato, who used rain, Kaito utilized the ever-present mist of the Water Country, embedding his chakra within it. This allowed him to monitor every movement within the mist's range, effectively cutting off Rainbow Kingdom's communications and ensuring their pleas for external aid never reached their destination.

Over the next two months, the Mist Ninjas systematically dismantled the Rainbow Kingdom's defences. The daimyo, unaware of the full extent of Kaito's control, continued to hope for rescue from other nations—a hope that would never materialize.
