Rise of the Werewolves: A New Dominion

Chapter 10: The War Wolf Fenrir

Although Kordiak was only a novice beast tamer, he was still one of the most important talents in the Silvermane Tribe. Especially among beast tamers and craftsmen, life professions were very difficult to obtain.

The main issue was within the orc society itself; tribes were fragmented, and apart from the larger tribes where the royal court might systematically cultivate talents, smaller to medium-sized tribes had to rely on self-education to produce their own skilled individuals.

Unlike humans and elves, who had academies scattered throughout their kingdoms, producing talents in batches across various fields.

Of course, regarding academies, once the Silvermane Tribe gained sufficient strength, it would inevitably need to plan education systematically.

Kordiak respectfully led Corvinus into the animal pens.

"Chieftain, this is the war wolf enclosure, where you've been before," Kordiak said, unsure of what Corvinus intended to do. After all, the humble animal pens were just this size, and the chieftain had visited a few times before. What was there to see?

However, he dared not be negligent when the chieftain spoke.

"How are the war wolves we received a few days ago? Are they manageable?" Corvinus asked with a smile.

The war wolf area was actually a fenced section exceeding a thousand square meters where the war wolves could move around freely.

Of course, there was also a beast nest in the central area for the war wolves, where pregnant and nursing mothers and their pups lived.

"Chieftain, the war wolves you captured were indeed a timely help," Kordiak said, looking at the war wolf area.

"The tribe's war wolves, due to no new bloodlines integrating for several years, have had their lineage weakened. Over the past year, the number of pups born to the females has drastically decreased, and the mortality rate of the pups born has become alarmingly high. Many females have even chosen not to become pregnant."

"If no new war wolves join, in another six months, this pack may completely lose its ability to breed," Kordiak glanced at Corvinus.

Although he was the top dog in the animal pens, essentially having the final say in matters, his position was also quite challenging.

Regarding the issue of war wolves, he had reported to the higher-ups countless times, hoping to add new war wolves and integrate new bloodlines.

But invariably, he received two responses: no money, or wait until the tribe is wealthy.

After all, an adult second-tier war wolf costs at least several gold coins, and with the Silvermane Tribe's financial situation, they simply couldn't afford to buy many.

Moreover, it was out of the question to use the tribe's emergency funds to purchase war wolves.

At the end of the day, war wolves were important, but when it came to the tribe's survival, they could easily become expendable.

"However, with the new pack of war wolves you captured, the war wolves have been revitalized," Kordiak said respectfully, glancing at Corvinus.

As a beast tamer, his value lay in taming beasts. If the war wolves were gone, he would just be an ordinary fourth-tier warrior in the tribe, especially since as a beast tamer, although his strength was fourth-tier, combat was not his forte.

"These past few days, my handlers have seen the previous females seeking mates with the males from the new pack multiple times, which means new blood is already being conceived."

"In a few months, the animal pens may see an explosive growth in war wolf pups."

"That's good!" Corvinus nodded upon hearing this.

War wolves were the foundation of the wolf cavalry and the tribe itself.

He didn't want any issues; the difference in strength between a tribe with wolf cavalry and one without was enormous.

"Chieftain, would you like me to summon the war wolves?" Kordiak asked.

Compared to Corvinus's father, he felt that Corvinus was a chieftain who was easy to approach.

"Oh?"

"Summon them over, I'd like to see those guys again," Corvinus said with a smile.

The pack of war wolves he captured in the Blackwind Mountains had joined voluntarily, and he wanted to see if they were settling in well.

Any group of magical beasts that could join voluntarily could also leave at any time.

Many tribes often experienced the loss of magical beast groups. Most magical beasts were single-minded; once they recognized a follower, they generally wouldn't easily abandon them, but if the follower treated them poorly, they would run away when they could endure no longer.

After all, in this world, all magical beasts possessed considerable intelligence; they understood pros and cons, so naturally, they couldn't be treated like ordinary wild animals.

"Yes!"

Kordiak nodded respectfully, took a very small, bone-made horn from his waist, and blew it towards the war wolf area.

The sharp, prolonged sound of the horn lasted less than ten seconds before the distant rumble of hooves could be heard, and a grand procession of war wolves came rushing over.

Corvinus's face lit up with a smile; the sight of over two hundred war wolves, large and small, rushing over was indeed spectacular.

It was easy to imagine that two hundred wolf cavalry would be far more awe-inspiring than two hundred horse cavalry.

The war wolves ran to the fence, their large and small eyes fixed on Corvinus and the other man.

Full of confusion!

"Is that the alpha wolf over there?" Corvinus pointed to a particularly large wolf with a fourth-tier aura in the pack and asked Kordiak.

"Yes, Chieftain, it's called Kava, a fourth-tier alpha wolf, and it's my contracted magical beast," Kordiak nodded.

"Your contracted magical beast?"

"So that's how it is, contracting the alpha wolf allows for better management of the war wolf pack," Corvinus said, suddenly his gaze shifted to the back of the war wolf pack and laughed, "It seems the pack hasn't fully integrated yet."

Although over two hundred war wolves were present, the ones in the back and the front were clearly distinct, forming two separate groups.

Kordiak was taken aback, glanced at where Corvinus was looking, and nodded, "Indeed, they haven't integrated, and the competition between the two packs is fierce. But strangely, Kava hasn't clashed with the new alpha, and surprisingly, they don't prevent their females from mating with the other's males."

"Is that so? That's indeed strange!"

Although magical beasts possessed wisdom, they were still beasts, naturally possessing the instinct to protect their territory and pack.

"Fenrir, come here!" Suddenly, Corvinus called out to the distant pack.

Instantly, all the war wolves turned their black eyes towards Corvinus, but one slowly approached him.

"Magical Beast Name: War Wolf (Alpha)

Level: Three (Approaching Four)

Attribute: Wind

Skills: ......"

"Fenrir, I didn't expect that after just a few days, you're about to break through to the fourth tier," Corvinus said, looking at the approaching war wolf's information with some surprise.

Fenrir was naturally not just any other war wolf; he was the injured alpha from the pack captured in the Blackwind Mountains, intended to be his contracted magical beast.

"About to break through to the fourth tier?" Kordiak was taken aback, looking at the approaching war wolf, and naturally recognized it as the new pack's alpha.

After all, he had treated this wolf's wounds before!
