Revenge Sign-in System

Chapter 1: The Death and Rebirth of Gerard Walker

The Death and Rebirth of Gerard Walker

---

Somewhere in Eastern Asia – A Covert Military Operation Gone Wrong

The jungle was alive with sound—the distant chatter of wildlife, the rustling of leaves under heavy boots, the distant murmur of comms buzzing in Gerard Walker's ear. The mission was supposed to be clean. In and out. No loose ends.

He crouched low, rifle steady, scanning the perimeter through night-vision goggles. His heartbeat was calm, controlled.

Then the voice came through his earpiece.

"Target located. Proceed to extraction."

Something was off.

His partner, Jameson, had been on edge the entire op. Twitchy. Distracted. And when they reached the objective—a high-profile enemy scientist harboring classified intelligence—Jameson hesitated.

A split second too long.

"Why isn't he securing the target?"

Gerard turned to question him—and the muzzle of a gun greeted him.

Aimed at his chest.

Jameson's voice was empty. Cold.

"Sorry, brother. Orders are orders."

The shot rang out. Blinding pain tore through his ribcage.

Gerard staggered back, vision darkening. His own team… his own country… had betrayed him.

He hit the ground, staring at the night sky, feeling his body grow cold. The last thing he saw before the darkness swallowed him was Jameson walking away as if he hadn't just murdered a friend.

"So this is how it ends?"

And then, nothing.

---

He Woke Up Gasping

Air rushed into his lungs as if he had been drowning. His muscles burned, every nerve in his body screaming at once.

He was alive.

But something was wrong.

Gerard opened his eyes. White. Blinding light. The sterile scent of antiseptic and bleach filled his nostrils.

A hospital?

No—not just any hospital.

Something felt off.

He lifted his hand—but the hand that met his eyes wasn't his own.

His dark skin was gone, replaced by something pale and unfamiliar.

His military-hardened physique had vanished—he was leaner, weaker.

He turned toward the window, catching his reflection in the glass.

A stranger stared back at him.

That was when the memories hit.

Li Xian.

The name burned into his mind like a brand. This body's name.

A wealthy heir, born into privilege—until his own family betrayed him.

A stepmother who stole his father's legacy.

A stepsister who conspired against him.

A hospital that served as his prison.

They had poisoned him. Framed him. Laughed as he faded away.

And yet, he survived.

Just like before.

---

The Truth Settles In

Gerard sat there, staring at his hands—his new hands—trying to process the impossible.

"I was shot. I died."

That was fact. He had bled out on the jungle floor, felt his heart stop beating.

And yet…

He was here. In a body that wasn't his, with memories that weren't his.

It should have been unbelievable. But he had always been a soldier first.

And a soldier didn't waste time questioning reality.

A soldier adapted.

"Li Xian is dead."

But Gerard Walker was not.

And if whoever did this thought he would simply accept it… they were wrong.

---

The Step-Mother's Arrival – The Fake Concern

The door to his hospital room slid open.

A woman entered, dressed in an elegant black dress, pearls lining her neck. Her face was sculpted into an expression of motherly concern.

But Gerard saw the lie immediately.

Her movements were too perfect, too rehearsed.

The slight downturn of her lips was calculated.

The way she hovered near his bed, just close enough to seem caring, was scripted.

And her eyes—empty of real emotion.

"Li Xian, my dear boy."

Gerard remained silent, watching her.

"We were so worried. The doctors said… you tried to take your own life."

A carefully placed pause. A soft sigh, as if she was grieving.

A lie.

And Gerard—no, Li Xian—remembered everything.

The poison. The fabricated suicide note. The whispers in the house about how he was "unstable." The power grab disguised as concern.

His grip tightened on the thin hospital blanket.

She had tried to kill him.

And now?

She was disappointed that he was still alive.

"I'm not the same Li Xian you tried to murder."

He kept his expression blank, playing the role of a weak, recovering victim.

For now.

The System Appears – The First Glimpse of Revenge

Then it happened.

A soft chime echoed in his mind—a sound that didn't belong in the hospital.

And then, the blue screen appeared.

Hovering before his eyes, unseen by anyone else.

[Ding! The Revenge Sign-In System has been activated.]

His pulse slowed. Controlled. Focused.

"What the hell is this?"

The screen remained steady, flickering slightly, waiting.

[Welcome, Li Xian. You have been chosen for the Revenge Sign-In System.]

[Each day, you must sign in and exact vengeance. Failing to do so will result in penalties.]

[First Sign-In Bonus: "Executioner's Instinct" Unlocked.]

Gerard's eyes narrowed.

A system? Something artificial, yet undeniably real.

And then, something else clicked.

He had been chosen for revenge.

The words were clear.

This wasn't just a second chance. This was a directive. A mission.

A mission to destroy the people who had done this to him.

And Gerard had never failed a mission in his life.

He barely had time to process it before another notification appeared.

[Mission Objective: Punish those who put you in this hospital.]

His grip on the blanket loosened. Cold rage settled in his chest.

The woman standing before him—smiling, pretending to care—was first.

She had taken everything from him.

Now, he would take everything from her.
