Chapter 80
“Ah… looks like Kaiser has arrived.”
“Kueeeen!”
After waiting for a while, Kaiser finally appeared.
The speed of [Flight] was overwhelming—so much so that even the Crystal Bird, which soars through the sky at incredible speeds, had been completely left behind.
When Kaiser flew to me, crying, I comforted him before…
“He looks exhausted. Let’s let him rest in The World.”
Following Eve’s suggestion, Kaiser returned to his room.
“Well, that makes sense. He did fly a long way.”
Looking back in the direction I had come from, I could see a mountain range in between. If my memory of the academy’s map was correct, this should be a neighboring country.
“If Eve’s wind magic had faded, you’d have been frozen solid, Master.”
I couldn’t laugh it off as an exaggeration. Judging by the speed, I had probably come close to breaking the sound barrier. The scenery had turned completely white from sheer velocity.
I decided to ask Eve something I had been thinking about.
“Hey, Eve.”
“Yes, Master?”
“Would you listen to a request of mine?”
“Of course. I exist solely for your sake, Master. If you commanded me to hunt down a dragon or a phoenix, I would gladly do so.”
Hearing Eve’s unwavering loyalty, I made my request.
“I’d like to get back before [Amplification] wears off. Can I count on your wind magic?”
In the next moment, Eve started crying.
“Come on, can you stop sulking already?”
We had landed in town and were now walking through the streets, but…
“There are jokes that are acceptable and jokes that aren’t. I seriously considered whether I was about to die, you know.”
Eve, walking beside me, still looked displeased.
“I get it, I get it. I was planning on staying here for at least a night since we’ve come all this way.”
The unexpected speed had brought me to a neighboring country, but now that I was here, I had things I wanted to do.
“So, what exactly are we doing next?”
As usual, Eve had used illusion magic to disguise us.
All eyes were on the beautiful girl that was Eve, leaving me completely unnoticed.
“I figured I’d take this opportunity to sell off some stuff.”
With that, I stepped into a magic tool shop.
“Wow, our equipment sold for a pretty good price.”
“Yeah. I thought it might not go for much since the enemies weren’t that strong, but this is great.”
Eve and I had decided to take this chance to sell off the equipment we had taken from the bandits we defeated earlier.
If we had tried selling them within our own country, it could have left a trail back to us. But here, in a foreign land, that wasn’t an issue.
Additionally, since I was in disguise, even if someone from that country was dispatched to track the sale, tracing it back to me would be impossible.
Unless they managed to connect every step—my disguise through [Illusion], the transformation of [Flight] into [Soaring] using [Amplification], and my use of magic to reach this place—there was no way to break my alibi.
Even if someone was actively trying to frame me, proving it would be impossible.
With that assurance, I felt comfortable moving around the city.
“Next, I want to sell off some unnecessary dungeon cores and check out the ones in stock.”
“Master, Eve wants a new core.”
Eve responded in a cheerful tone as we walked into a dungeon core shop.
“Alright, we sold the cores, and we managed to get our hands on a Rank V core. That went well.”
“Master, hurry! Let’s get back to The World and absorb the core!”
Eve was getting visibly excited, her face slightly flushed. But…
“Hey, Eve. There’s something I want to do before the sun sets.”
I recalled the habitat map I had studied back at the academy, mentally reviewing the local wildlife.
“What is it?”
Originally, I had planned to acquire this particular item as part of my preparations for Astana Island. But now that we were in a neighboring country, this was even more convenient.
“I’m going to fly out again and search for something.”
“Haa… ‘something,’ huh?”
Eve narrowed her eyes suspiciously at my words.
“Well, whatever. Master always has a plan. I’ll follow your lead, but what exactly are you plotting this time?”
Hearing that, I let a grin spread across my face before answering.
“Oh, nothing much. I just figured it’s about time I tested out [Ranch].”
