Chapter 30
I checked with the man in front of me, wearing expensive armor and wielding a sword.
To be honest, the number of monsters was so high that I had no intention of holding back.
Perhaps because of his good leadership, no one had died yet.
The thought that someone might die because I held back my strength would leave a bad taste in my mouth.
That’s why it would be faster to defeat all of them.
The man, looking bewildered, replied, “Ah.”
“Alright! Then, let’s annihilate them!”
The Direwolf I had kicked away collided with a nearby rock, scattering its life force.
The remaining 14 wolves, now targeting me, rushed toward me all at once.
“Eve, get the longsword.”
I could probably manage with just my bare hands, but having the reach of a sword would make the fight easier.
I focused on getting the sword into my right hand, but…
‘I don’t have it. After all, you melted all the longswords for the barbecue plates, didn’t you?’
“Eh? Did I do that?”
I had forgotten about that. I remembered now that I had ordered all the longswords to be melted down.
“Aahhhhh!”
I heard another scream from behind me. Three girls, who seemed to be of noble bearing, were hugging each other in fear, screaming loudly.
Well, if a swarm of monsters were charging at you, it’s understandable they’d be terrified.
“I guess there’s no helping it.”
‘What will you do? If you’re fighting barehanded, should I use Power?’
Eve suggested using my Power, perhaps as a precaution.
“Bring out a log.”
I ordered.
“Alright! Home run!”
Seeing the opening where I wasn’t moving, a few Direwolves leaped at me.
I lifted the log and swung it with all my might.
“Wow, it flies well!”
The increase in muscle strength from the Kaiser’s egg and the Power core was no joke. If they were hit that hard, they’d definitely be dead on impact.
The log fit perfectly into my arm as if it was made for it, demonstrating its full potential.
“Now, who wants to be next for a home run?”
I looked around, and the Direwolves hesitated, stepping back.
They looked like chihuahuas facing off against a large dog—full of fear.
“If you won’t come to me, I’ll come to you.”
If I left them alone, they might try to escape.
There were many other candidates currently on this deserted island, after all.
If I let them slip away and later heard that “victims had been claimed” when the exam ended, I’d feel bad about it.
The Direwolves were unfortunate enough to encounter me, and they would have to face the consequences.
“Alright, one…”
Thanks to the Speed core, neither the candidates nor the Direwolves could keep up with my movement speed.
“Two…”
I continued swinging the log, taking advantage of the Direwolves’ momentary distraction as they watched their comrades fall.
“Three…”
All the Direwolves on the field were easily sent flying out of bounds with home runs.
I’d gone a bit overboard, so I asked Kaiser to collect the bodies.
“Well, it seems like everything’s settled.”
I put away the log and surveyed the area.
Thanks to the Direwolves rushing toward me, it looked like the damage hadn’t escalated too much, which was a relief.
However, it seemed that this had been their base of operations—tents were destroyed, and food supplies were scattered all over the ground.
Even worse, many people were injured.
“Hey, you, are you the leader of this base?”
I had seen this person take charge earlier, so I assumed they were the one in charge.
When I confirmed, the person replied:
“Ah. I’m Roberto Cabero, the third son of the Cabero Marquis family. I must thank you again for your help.”
He reached out his hand for a handshake.
“I’m Erik. I’m a commoner, so I don’t have a family name.”
As I shook Roberto’s hand, I could feel it trembling.
That made sense—he had been organizing everyone and facing down so many monsters.
“I know it’s a bit forward of me to ask after you saved us, but do you happen to have any spare healing potions? I don’t have any with me right now, but I promise I’ll pay you back after the exam.”
His words made me realize why they hadn’t started treating their injuries.
It seemed they had run out of healing items.
(Eve, can you give me all the potions we have?)
‘Understood, Master.’
“Alright, I’ll help. There are a lot of injured people. We need to treat them quickly.”
At my words, Roberto took the potions and started gathering the able-bodied candidates to begin the treatment.
As I was watching the situation unfold, I felt a gaze on me.
“Hmm?”
When I turned around, I saw the girls who had screamed earlier.
“S-s-s-so, thank you so much for saving our lives. We are deeply grateful.”
I could tell they were scared, their lips pale. The girl in the middle was trying to act brave, but the two girls beside her had completely lost their composure.
“Don’t worry about it. It was your scream that made it possible for me to come to the rescue. If you hadn’t called out, someone might have been sacrificed.”
Since I was keeping Eve’s powers a secret for now, saying it like this made it sound more convincing.
Given the girls’ mannerisms and the gear they were wearing, it was clear they were highborn. Considering Roberto had shown deference to them earlier, I was certain they were important figures. I couldn’t act rudely, even if I had helped them.
I bowed, and the girl in the middle softened her expression, then—
“May I ask your name again?”
“Ah, yes. It’s Erik.”
She said my name, and then—
“My name is Angelica. I am deeply grateful to you, Erik-sama.”
She took my hand and said this.
