Chapter 4: Late Start
"No! Don't..." Uchiha Tatsumi woke up suddenly, drenched in sweat. He quickly checked his clothes. "Huh... At least it's my pajamas, not women's clothes! Why do I keep having this kind of dream? Damn system."
The alarm clock hadn't rung yet, so he could sleep a bit longer. He loved getting back to sleep. But just as he was about to lie down again, it hit him. "Crap!" Tatsumi remembered he forgot to set the alarm clock last night. He glanced at it—8:20 AM. He was going to be late for registration.
He rushed to put on his Uchiha brand windbreaker, performed a quick wash, and checked his appearance in the mirror. "The head can be broken or bleeding, but the hairstyle can't be messy." He grabbed the half-eaten bread from yesterday and dashed out.
"I'm out!" he shouted to the photo of his parents as he left the house.
In the courtyard, five-year-old Uchiha Tatsumi's voice rang out with vitality. The early morning sun bathed the earth, the air filled with the fragrance of flowers. It was a new day, and he felt more powerful than ever. This change even surprised him. "Is this the benefit of adding points?" he wondered.
At this time, the Third Hokage reigned over Konoha. A contemporary of Tatsumi's father, Uchiha Kagami, the Third Hokage was in his prime. Known as the "Ninjutsu Professor," his strength and knowledge were unparalleled in Hidden Leaf Village. It was said he had an unimaginable number of Ninjutsu, and his power was so great that other ninja from the Four Great Countries respected and feared him. Despite some controversy over his title as the "Strongest Hokage," there was no denying his formidable presence.
Although peace had been maintained for almost ten years since the last ninja battle, no one anticipated that the next war would occur in just three to four years. However, these concerns were far from Tatsumi's mind. His current goal was points. "Points are art, my stupid system!" he thought.
The streets of Konoha were already bustling with pedestrians, and shop owners had been up for a while. For commoners, enjoying this kind of peace was a pleasure. Feeling the vibrant atmosphere, Tatsumi quickened his pace.
When he arrived at the Academy, there was already a vast crowd. "Oops," he muttered, seeing that the registration office was already in the process of closing. "Will my 'Road to Ninja' end here?"
"Tatsumi!" a soft voice called out. Tatsumi paused and turned slightly, immediately seeing a delicate face. It was a girl his age, with long black hair and black pupils, wearing the Uchiha Clan's traditional clothes. She exuded a beautiful aura.
"Tatsumi, you're late!" she said with concern.
"Good morning, Mikoto," Tatsumi replied. "I got lost on the path of life."
"Huh?" Uchiha Mikoto showed a puzzled expression.
Realizing his explanation was too deep for a five-year-old girl, Tatsumi thought, "I guess this excuse is only good for deceiving fifteen-year-old aunties like Tsunade. I should stick to helping grandmas cross the street next time."
"Here you are," Mikoto said, handing him a registration form. "I thought you were late, so I signed up for you."
"Thank you, Mikoto." Tatsumi smiled excitedly. Mikoto was genuinely a kind-hearted girl.
Mikoto had a very good relationship with Tatsumi because of her character. In Konoha, the Uchiha surname represented power, leading many Uchiha children to be a bit aggressive and arrogant. However, this temperament was not reflected in Mikoto. Naturally, she became his friend. Both Mikoto and Tatsumi were orphans, and the Uchiha Clan treated orphans generously, much more than Konoha did. However, Tatsumi was slightly excluded by others, but Mikoto never treated him that way. She always stood up for him when others tried to bully him.
Tatsumi sighed, thinking about Mikoto's gentle nature. "How did such a gentle person like Mikoto end up with children like Itachi and Sasuke? It must be Fugaku's genes," he thought. "Sure enough, I have to find a way to kill Uchiha Fugaku. For the peace of the Ninja World, of course."
Seeing Tatsumi, Mikoto gave a gentle smile. "Have you had breakfast?" she asked, taking an onigiri from her bag and offering it to him. "Here, I made this onigiri this morning. Would you like to try it? I'm afraid it might taste bad..." Mikoto said shyly, lacking confidence in her cooking.
Tatsumi smiled and affirmed, "Mikoto made it, so it must be delicious!" His affirmation surprised Mikoto, but her shy emotions gradually dissipated under his gaze.
"En!" Mikoto agreed with a smile.
Tatsumi took the onigiri with a smile and put it in his mouth. "It's so delicious," he said, tears welling up in his eyes. Ever since coming to Konoha, he hadn't had proper meals. As he ate Mikoto's onigiri, he offered his half-eaten bread to her. "I also invite you to breakfast..."
Mikoto smiled and replied, "I have already eaten."
"Oh," Tatsumi said.
After finishing their breakfast, Tatsumi and Mikoto walked to the Academy together. The selection trials would begin soon.
