Chapter 23: The Hyuga Clash

The next match was the one everyone had been waiting for. If Tatsumi's earlier performance had been a masterclass in calculated dominance, this was the clash of titans, a battle of wills as much as skill. The graduating class, led by Hyuga Hiashi, faced the fifth-grade team captained by his own sister, Hyuga Himeji. A sibling rivalry for the ages.

"Little sister," Hiashi said, his voice calm but his expression betraying a hint of concern. "If you lose, go home quietly."

"Brother," Himeji replied, her tone cool and formal. She wore the standard Hyuga clan uniform, her long, light blue hair reminiscent of the future Hyuga Hinata. But where Hinata projected timidity, Himeji radiated an icy resolve, an unyielding spirit. A different kind of Hyuga, Tatsumi observed. More… glacial.

He was curious about their relationship. Hiashi had called Himeji his younger sister, yet she addressed him as "senior." Something's definitely going on there, he thought, a spark of intrigue igniting within him. Drama.

Himeji bowed to Hiashi, her movements precise and graceful, before assuming a combat stance. The veins around her eyes pulsed as she activated her Byakugan.

"It's the Byakugan!" the crowd murmured."Himeji! You can do it!"

"Show that Hyuga Hiashi what's what!"

If Tatsumi was the Academy's dark horse, the master of illusion and subterfuge, Himeji was its shining star, the epitome of grace and talent. She had been a prodigy since her first year, her beauty and skill captivating the student body. Rumours of her aloofness and disinterest in romance only fuelled her popularity. She consistently topped the "Most Wanted Girlfriend" list.

Women are complicated, Tatsumi thought, shaking his head. Regardless of age.

The dynamic between Himeji, Hiashi, and their other sibling, Hizashi, was a mystery. They were clearly related, yet their interactions were strained. This tension was palpable in the arena.

The crowd's support was overwhelmingly in Himeji's favour. Hiashi, by contrast, received little encouragement. Even Hizashi stood with his younger sister, his allegiance clear.

Hiashi, however, seemed unfazed by the lack of support. His focus was entirely on his sister.

"So…" Hiashi said, closing his eyes briefly. When he opened them, the veins around his eyes were prominent, his own Byakugan activated. "Byakugan!"

A clash of Byakugan.

The Byakugan, one of the Three Great Dojutsu, allowed its user to see chakra flow and internal organs, and to strike at tenketsu points, disrupting an opponent's chakra network. This unique ability formed the basis of the Hyuga clan's signature taijutsu style: the Gentle Fist.

In taijutsu, the Hyuga were naturally gifted. Their clan's inherited techniques, combined with the Byakugan, gave them a significant advantage. They rarely relied on ninjutsu, preferring to focus on the devastating power of the Gentle Fist. But that doesn't mean they're incapable of it, Tatsumi reminded himself. They just choose not to.

The Hyuga clan, with their Byakugan – those all-seeing eyes, were, in Tatsumi's opinion, squandering their potential. They focused almost exclusively on taijutsu, a baffling waste of such a powerful dojutsu. It's like having a telescope and only using it to look at your feet, he thought.

Himeji, standing on the platform, was clearly driven by a desire to prove herself, to show Hiashi and the clan that she was his equal, if not superior. She took a deep breath, chakra surging through her tenketsu points.

The two Hyuga clashed, their movements a blur of precise strikes and calculated counters. Himeji, with a swift turn of her wrist, deflected Hiashi's palm and aimed a strike at his face. Hiashi ducked, countering with a chakra-infused punch aimed at Himeji's chakra pathway. Himeji evaded, launching a side kick that Hiashi narrowly avoided. They separated, their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills.

Hiashi's expression wasn't one of aggression, but rather a quiet plea. He knew his sister's stubborn nature. He knew why she was so determined to win. And he also knew that he had to follow the clan's rules.

Chakra gathered in Hiashi's legs. He leapt forward, simultaneously launching a volley of shuriken at Himeji.

"Cheap trick!" someone in the crowd yelled. "Hiashi's a coward!"

"Himeji, crush him!"

The atmosphere crackled with tension. The boys who idolized Himeji were baying for Hiashi's blood. The Uchiha trio, never ones to miss an opportunity for mischief, had even unfurled a banner: "Defeat Hyuga Hiashi, Save Himeji!"

Tatsumi, sensing the brewing chaos, pulled Mikoto away from the throng. "Let's move," he said. "Things are about to get messy. And besides, we'll be able to watch the fight well enough from a distance. This crowd is uncomfortable."

On the platform, Hiashi's shuriken attack had forced Himeji into a Body Replacement Jutsu. He pressed his advantage, knowing that Himeji was slightly less experienced in taijutsu. The Hyuga style was simple: get close, unleash the Gentle Fist, and cripple the opponent's chakra flow.

Himeji, however, was no pushover. Despite being younger, she was a prodigy. She met Hiashi's attack head-on, blocking his strikes, deflecting his blows, and finally finding an opening. She landed a solid kick on his thigh, creating some much-needed distance. Using the brief respite, Himeji performed a rapid series of hand seals. "Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"

A powerful gust of wind erupted from her hands, slamming into Hiashi.

"Yes!" the crowd roared.

But the wind dissipated, revealing a simple log. Substitution Jutsu, Tatsumi observed.

Himeji's Byakugan scanned the area, searching for Hiashi. He was fast.

"Little sister," Hiashi's voice echoed across the platform. "This next move is something I've been working on. Admit defeat and come home with me!" Suddenly, a Ryoyi Yin-Yang seal appeared on the ground behind Himeji. Hiashi, having used a clever feint, had positioned himself behind her. He channelled all his chakra into a single, devastating attack. "Gentle Fist: Sixty-Four Palms!"

Himeji, despite her talent, was caught off guard. Hiashi's movements were too swift, his attack too sudden. Before she could react, the intricate formation of the Sixty-Four Palms was upon her.

"In my domain," Hiashi declared, "no one escapes. Sixty-Four Palms… Begin!"
