Chapter 20: Jiraiya the Galant's Tragedy

Uchiha Tatsumi and Mikoto had just left Tsunade's area and returned to the training ground when they saw Minato, who had been sleeping soundly earlier, was now awake.

"Are you awake, Minato?" Uchiha Tatsumi greeted him.

"Hehe, yeah." Namikaze Minato, with his characteristic blond hair, turned around and smiled at Uchiha Tatsumi, gesturing that he was fine.

"Tatsumi, why do you look so pale? Didn't Lady Tsunade treat you?" Minato asked with concern.

"That woman..." Uchiha Tatsumi shuddered, remembering the harrowing experience.

"Have we finished the Second Year competition?" Uchiha Tatsumi asked, trying to change the subject.

"The top three have already been decided. It's you, Mikoto, and me," Minato replied. "Nawaki just forfeited his match. I don't know why he looked so distressed. Is he injured?"

"Well, it's hard to say. He might be more traumatised emotionally. He needs a psychiatrist," Uchiha Tatsumi explained. "But it doesn't matter. It was simple for him to hand over his spot to us."

Minato nodded, asking no further questions. He was elated to have secured the third spot, as it had been challenging to rise above his peers.

"What should we do next? Should we play another match among the three of us? Or should we start competing with other grades?" Minato asked eagerly.

"We'll start a new round of team-based confrontations by grade. The ranking will be judged by the Third Hokage based on performance," Uchiha Tatsumi explained.

"Isn't that a bit obvious...?" Tatsumi murmured internally. "As long as the Sannin decide, it's pretty much set in stone. If they say you can do it, you can; if they say you can't, you probably won't even make the top three. That's the so-called appointed."

"It's still fair," Minato said happily.

"Yeah, just like a ghost," Uchiha Tatsumi muttered sarcastically.

"...?"

"Never mind," Tatsumi said, shaking his head. "Keep it up, Minato."

"Okay, I'll keep it up!"

"Mikoto, you must work hard too."

"For Tatsumi, I'll keep it up too~" Mikoto replied, smiling.

"That's great." After patting Mikoto's head, Uchiha Tatsumi glanced at where the Sannin were standing. Sure enough, after all the students had finished their matches, Jiraiya used hand seals to create a new training platform for the students, and Orochimaru followed suit. Soon, a much larger soil platform had risen.

"Everyone rest for half an hour. We'll continue the second round of battles in the afternoon. If the eliminated students don't want to watch, they can return to the classroom," Orochimaru announced in his hoarse, seductive voice before promptly leaving. Tsunade, eager to spend some time at the casino, left happily as well.

Jiraiya looked at Uchiha Tatsumi in the audience, wiggling his eyebrows and flashing a confident smile before rushing off after Tsunade, looking anxious as if he'd found a girlfriend. The three of them certainly had their own agendas.

Tsunade, already in a foul mood, would likely explode if Jiraiya provoked her now. Uchiha Tatsumi watched Jiraiya's hurried silhouette, anticipating a good show.

"Tatsumi, what's wrong?" Mikoto asked.

Instead of leaving the training ground, Uchiha Tatsumi and Mikoto found a sheltered spot and sat down. Mikoto took out a bento from a sealed scroll.

"Nothing, I just wondered if Lord Jiraiya would encounter any good things," Uchiha Tatsumi chuckled.

"Really, it's not a bad idea. Tatsumi definitely didn't have any good ideas," Mikoto complained cutely while handing Uchiha Tatsumi the tableware.

Since discovering that Uchiha Tatsumi's bento consisted of little more than salt and water, Mikoto had taken it upon herself to prepare his meals.

Uchiha Tatsumi had initially refused, not wanting to feel like he was relying on her. "Even if I starve, I won't... well, it smells so good!" he thought.

"Wow, meatballs and hairy crabs today?" Uchiha Tatsumi exclaimed, eagerly using chopsticks to grab a hairy crab and signalling Minato to join them. The crispy exterior and juicy texture inside were absolutely delightful.

"It's delicious! Mikoto's cooking is amazing."

"Hehe, I'm glad you like it," Mikoto said shyly, sitting beside him and eating silently.

The warm scene was almost too much for Minato. He glanced at Uchiha Tatsumi's bento and then at the hard steamed bun in his hand. "What happened to the dignity of a ninja?" he wondered, ultimately deciding to join them for a proper meal.

Minato also began to consider finding a girlfriend, if only to have someone who could cook.

"Die, Jiraiya! Apologise, or I'll send you to hell!" Tsunade's booming roar echoed from a distance.

Even Uchiha Tatsumi felt the intensity of her anger from where they were.

"What? Did Lord Jiraiya provoke Lady Tsunade again?" Mikoto asked worriedly.

It seemed well-known in Konoha that Jiraiya didn't have the best reputation among the ninja circles.

"Calm down, Tsunade! Orochimaru, help me stop her!" Jiraiya pleaded, as if facing a life-or-death situation.

"Orochimaru, don't stop me! I'll destroy Jiraiya! And if you get in my way, I'll take you down too!" Tsunade's harsh words sent shivers down Tatsumi's spine.

The tension in the air was palpable. "Worthy of being a three-person group... Tsunade's murderous aura alone is enough to make my skin tingle," Uchiha Tatsumi thought.

After a brief silence, Tsunade yelled, "Go to hell, Jiraiya! Heaven Defending Kick!"

"Has she used Ninjutsu?" Uchiha Tatsumi wondered.

"Help! Tsunade's gone mad! Sensei Sarutobi, save me!" Jiraiya's desperate cries echoed.

The ground shook with a powerful vibration, even reaching the Academy where Uchiha Tatsumi sat.

"Lord Jiraiya, I'll remember your tragedy," Uchiha Tatsumi thought, smiling triumphantly.

"Why are you so happy, Tatsumi?" Mikoto asked, having learned to read Uchiha Tatsumi's expressions well over time. Seeing his excitement, she knew he was absolutely delighted.
