Reincarnated as Slaanesh in Marvel

Chapter 21: Chapter 21

My head... I try to open my eyes, but I need to use more force than I normally do without realizing it, so I open them little by little, stopping every few seconds because the light blinds me.

I try to move my arms to cover the light hitting my face, but just like my eyelids, it feels like I'm lifting a mountain instead of my arms.

So I give up and let my eyes adjust.

When I can finally see, I realize I'm in the school infirmary. I know it's the school's infirmary and not anywhere else because of the rather advanced equipment here.

Of course, this is the only infirmary I've ever been in since I spent most of my life locked up at home, but I know it's advanced from the comments others make… and also from TV shows.

The school infirmary has several beds, and to give patients privacy, they are divided into small sections using curtains. So, I can't tell if I'm alone in the room or not.

I spend several minutes doing nothing. At first, I tried to get up, but my body wouldn't let me. I also tried to speak, but only low-volume noise came out of my mouth.

After a while, I hear the door swing open and two people walking in, along with the sound of the professor's wheelchair.

I hear them moving around the room in silence until they pull back a curtain—not mine, but someone else's.

And that's when the trouble begins.

"What happened to my son, Xavier?!" I hear an unfamiliar man's voice shouting.

"Warren suffered a fall that caused head injuries about thirteen hours ago. His condition is stable, but he hasn't regained consciousness yet," I hear Dr. Hank respond.

Wait, Angel is injured!?

"I can see that! What I want to know is why my son was on one of your damn missions! And don't lie to me— a government satellite recorded everything, so I know for a fact that my son was there!"

The professor and Hank remained silent until I finally heard the professor respond.

"The area where the fight took place was near a town where a mutant was taking refuge. The mission was simply to find him and offer him a place at the institute. At first, everything went well—they found the mutant, and he agreed to join the institute. What we didn't expect was that the group would be attacked on their way back… and that's when Warren was injured."

"I already told you, Charles! My son is done with your missions! If you and that damn Magneto want to kill each other, that's your business! But my son will not be part of this madness. As soon as his condition allows, he's leaving the institute. And forget about all the money I've been giving you—I invested here so my son could have a place in the world, not so he could participate in a war!"

After that, I heard just one person walking toward the exit and slamming the door shut.

There was a moment of silence in the room until I heard Dr. McCoy sigh and say:

"I'll go check on Vela."

Then he walked toward my cubicle, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw him pull back the curtain. At first, he was looking at the floor, distracted, but when he looked at me and realized my eyes were open, his expression changed to one of surprise.

"Oh, Vela! You're finally awake!" he said cheerfully as he approached and began examining me.

I also heard the sound of the professor's wheelchair.

"Vela, how do you feel?" the professor asked me before even coming into my field of vision.

"B-better… but A-Angel?" I barely managed to say with great effort.

The professor and Dr. McCoy exchanged looks before asking me:

"Did you hear the conversation earlier?"

Since speaking still required a lot of effort, I nodded.

The professor sighed and said, "During the mission, there was a very powerful explosion. It didn't injure Warren directly, but it knocked him out of the air, causing him to hit his head."

"And in case you were wondering, the man from earlier was Warren Worthington Jr., Angel's father… and a former major investor in the institute," added the doctor.

"H-how… is everyone else?"

"Overall, they're fine. Most are well, but unfortunately, not everyone came out unscathed."

I became nervous and tense at hearing that last part, and I guess the professor noticed because he quickly added:

"Don't worry, no one died. Ms. Ororo suffered a minor head injury. Both Warren and Scott sustained serious head traumas, but their lives are not in danger. And Jean…" the professor seemed to hesitate before adding, "She just overused her powers, but she only passed out from exhaustion. Nothing serious."

"And that's the last thing I remember."

"I see. So what Wanda told Logan was true… The Brotherhood's new recruit can copy powers just by touching others," said Ms. Ororo.

"That's problematic," added Hank.

"Say that after fighting her," Logan concluded.

It's the day after I woke up. The doctor did a quick check-up and told me to rest, so I went back to sleep. Now they're asking me about what happened during the fight.

Hank, scratching his chin, said, "Her power seems to be more than just copying. When Vela got here, her body was working much slower, as if a part of her energy had been taken away. I theorize that she can absorb a person's bodily energy and thus copy their powers."

"That explains why Vela was so weak, even with her resistance."

"But while we were fighting, the brat touched me, and while I did feel a bit weak, it didn't seem as extreme as it did with the kid."

"If I had to guess, I'd say it's for two reasons. First, the physical contact she had with the girl was much longer than what you had. And second, your healing factor. If we were to compare how much energy your body produces to that of a normal person, it'd be like comparing a nuclear power plant to a six-cylinder engine. You simply generate too much energy for the loss to really affect you."

"Well, I guess we've got a new threat on our hands," said Logan.

And I hope it's just one.

Honestly, aside from the basics, I don't really know how Rogue's powers work. And that part about Logan's body producing more energy than a human's—well, logically, it should be true, but I admit I also made it up, mainly to give a better explanation of why Rogue's powers seem to have stronger effects on some people and not others.
