Reborn in a cultivation world with my Ex girlfriends

Chapter 8: I Accidentally Became the Sect’s Son-in-Law

Wang Li had officially survived the Frozen Heart Bonding Ceremony.

He should have felt relieved.

Instead, he was terrified.

Because the moment he and Mu Yuechan stepped out of the Frozen Lotus Pond, a massive crowd of disciples and elders had already gathered.

And they were all staring.

One of the elders squinted at Wang Li. "He… actually passed?"

Another disciple muttered, "Didn't Senior Sister say she hated him?"

An older elder stroked his beard. "Ah, a romance that transcends past grievances. Such fate is rare indeed."

What. The. Hell.

Wang Li stiffened as the murmurs grew louder.

He turned to Mu Yuechan, his voice low. "Uh… what exactly does this ritual mean in your sect?"

Mu Yuechan crossed her arms. "What do you think?"

Before Wang Li could panic, the Frozen Lotus Lord stepped forward.

His expression was unreadable as his gaze swept over them. Then, he gave a slow nod.

"It seems… the ceremony was a success."

The crowd erupted.

"Success?!"

"So they're—"

"—bonded?!"

The realization slammed into Wang Li like a Spirit Beast's charge.

I ACCIDENTALLY GOT ENGAGED, DIDN'T I?!

---

Five Minutes Later – Inside the Frozen Lotus Sect's Main Hall

Wang Li sat in a grand ceremonial hall, his soul leaving his body as an elder read out his engagement contract.

"…With the successful completion of the Frozen Heart Bonding Ceremony, Wang Li and Mu Yuechan's spiritual energies have been fused, thus establishing a sacred bond recognized by the sect. This marks the first step toward their union as Dao Companions…"

Dao Companions?!

Wang Li's eye twitched.

He leaned toward Mu Yuechan. "Why is this starting to sound like a wedding ceremony?!"

Mu Yuechan sipped her tea. "Because it is one."

Wang Li nearly choked on air.

The Frozen Lotus Lord smirked. "You did not think I would allow a man to spend the night cultivating with my daughter without consequences, did you?"

Of course. Of course.

Wang Li wanted to scream.

How had his life gone from being an ordinary transmigrator to getting forcefully engaged to an ex-girlfriend in a cold, murderous sect within just a few days?!

He forced a strained smile. "Look, Sect Master, isn't this a bit… rushed?"

The elders gasped.

"How dare he question the sacred traditions of our sect!"

Another elder glared at Wang Li. "You were given the chance to leave, yet you stayed! The heavens themselves must have willed this union!"

The heavens willed me to die young, apparently.

Wang Li turned to Mu Yuechan, his last hope.

She shrugged. "I don't care either way. The sect has already made their decision."

Wang Li groaned.

No. No way. He refused to be trapped in another tragic romance with an ex-girlfriend!

He stood up. "Wait. I demand a third trial."

The crowd froze.

Mu Yuechan narrowed her eyes. "You want… another trial?"

Wang Li nodded frantically. "Yes. A real trial. Something that tests my strength. My abilities. Not… a forced engagement!"

The elders whispered among themselves.

The Frozen Lotus Lord's gaze sharpened. "You truly wish to challenge fate?"

"Yes!" Wang Li shouted.

Anything to delay this ridiculous marriage.

The hall fell silent.

Then—

The Frozen Lotus Lord smirked.

"Very well. Your third trial shall be… a battle."

Wang Li perked up. "A battle? With who?"

The Frozen Lotus Lord's smile widened.

"With my daughter."

Silence.

Wang Li's soul left his body for the second time that morning.

Mu Yuechan raised an eyebrow.

"Oh? This might be fun."

No. No, it would not be fun.

Because Mu Yuechan was an ice-cold monster, and Wang Li was a man who had barely survived his last trial by bribing a snake.

He slowly turned to face the sect master. "Uh… maybe we should reconsider—"

The Frozen Lotus Lord clapped his hands.

"Prepare the dueling arena!"

Wang Li groaned.

Why was his life like this?!
