Rebirth of a Farming Wife

Chapter 579 - 585

Chapter 579: Chapter 585

Su Wenyue had intended to retort with “What wouldn’t she dare to do?” yet, seeing Han Yu with his seemingly light and breezy but implicitly threatening demeanor, she truly lacked the resolve. She knew all too well how profound previous lessons had been; every time she found herself in such a situation, Han Yu would deal with her quite harshly.

“Husband, what’s wrong with you? Why have you become like this after I just went out to buy some things? Did something happen while I was out?” Su Wenyue wasn’t foolish; knowing something was off, she humbled herself and asked pleasingly, planning to understand the situation before responding.

“You’re quite perceptive, and smarter than before; at last, you realize where the problem lies.” Han Yu didn’t immediately clarify but praised her in a way that felt quite unpleasant no matter how one heard it.

Grinding her teeth secretly, Su Wenyue tolerated the despicable man: “Husband, you haven’t said what happened?”

“Daughter-in-law, have you had any contact with Liu Xiu?” Han Yu tried to control the jealousy in his heart and asked rather calmly. As a man, he was very sensitive to certain feelings. Although Han Yu didn’t know the purpose behind Liu Xiu’s desire to meet his daughter-in-law, he sensed no malice; he even felt that Liu Xiu seemed to have a fondness for his wife. Even though Liu Xiu himself didn’t realize it, Han Yu could discern something from the tone and demeanor Liu Xiu used when speaking of his wife. The conclusion he drew was far from satisfying!

“I don’t know him!” Su Wenyue replied without thinking, but then, recalling something, she added: “Strictly speaking, I don’t know him. However, I did save him once before. You’re aware of that, aren’t you? Afterward, there was no further interaction. Why do you ask?”

Su Wenyue was genuinely surprised that Han Yu would ask her this and didn’t understand what problem had arisen. Could it be that Liu Xiu had said or done something that led to Han Yu’s misunderstanding?

“Really, there was nothing else? Perhaps it happened unwittingly. Think carefully; this matter is very important!” Han Yu believed his wife but from his observations of Liu Xiu’s reactions, he always felt something was amiss.

Su Wenyue thought hard and still shook her head: “Really, there was nothing. Apart from the time I told you about saving him, I haven’t seen him since!”

Su Wenyue answered resolutely upon seeing Han Yu’s persistence on the issue: “What exactly is going on? Why do you ask me this? Could it be that you suspect there’s something between General Liu and me?!”

As Su Wenyue spoke, she suddenly connected Han Yu’s inexplicably strange attitude with her realization, and her expression immediately darkened.

“Han Yu, is this what you think of me? No wonder you were acting so weird when I came back, actually suspecting me of having an affair with another man. Is my character so poor, and am I that unworthy of your trust? To think that we’ve been married for many years, even have a child together, we’re an old couple now, yet we lack even the most basic trust. How laughable!”

Su Wenyue’s tone was sharp, and she looked at Han Yu with a cold laugh, feeling both angry and disappointed. Although in her previous life she had done wrong and betrayed Han Yu, suffering a just end, in this life she had been honest, focusing only on him and trying her best to make their days happy. And yet, she still faced his suspicions! How could this not hurt and anger Su Wenyue, making her feel disheartened as well?

Seeing his wife like this, Han Yu knew she had misunderstood his intentions. As he watched her become agitated, he opened his mouth to explain, but her words burst forth like rapid-fire from those plump little lips.

That temper, still so fierce! Han Yu touched his forehead and felt helpless; he hadn’t even said anything yet, just asked a question, and she became irritated without clarifying why he had asked.

“Daughter-in-law, you’re misunderstanding me. I didn’t mean that. If I really thought that way, I wouldn’t ask you so directly.” Han Yu hastened to explain, lest his wife became fixated on the wrong idea.

“Then what do you mean? Just speak clearly; why beat around the bush? I’m not clever enough to decipher what you’re thinking.” Su Wenyue pouted as she spoke, her words filled with dissatisfaction. She had asked many times, but Han Yu had not directly answered her question, instead asking this one, leaving her to guess.

“Daughter-in-law, my apologies; it’s my fault. I’ll ask you directly about anything from now on. Don’t be angry. The thing is…” Han Yu had no intention of hiding anything; he simply felt challenged and, by habit, shared with Su Wenyue all the details and observations he had compiled.

“So that’s what it is. What could Liu Xiu want with me? Aside from the time I saved him, and he was unconscious and unaware at the time, we’ve had no further interaction. This is rather odd. Haven’t you managed to unearth anything else?” Su Wenyue’s frown deepened. She didn’t doubt Han Yu’s observation and conclusions; if he said so, there must be certainty behind it.

Seeing his wife frown as if she could squash a mosquito, Han Yu empathized with her worried musing and immediately extended his hand, intending to smooth her furrowed brow: “All right, stop thinking about it. Since it’s like this, no matter how much you think, you won’t figure it out. I’ll have someone look into it, which is better than us making wild guesses. Anyway, I didn’t perceive any malice from Liu Xiu toward you— it’s not a big deal.”

Hearing Han Yu speak this way, Su Wenyue realized he made sense and didn’t continue to ponder. She really couldn’t figure out the reason and nodded in agreement with him: “Husband, I understand. With my simple mind, I wouldn’t be able to grasp the complex thoughts you people have anyway.”

Han Yu thought to himself that the little thing finally had some self-awareness at this moment, yet dared only to think it and not say it aloud. Otherwise, the ‘little thing’ would throw a tantrum; when she got angry, she was like a fluffed-up kitten, irresistibly cute. But considering today’s mood, he had no plans to tease her; that would likely backfire. As always, Han Yu was able to read the situation clearly.

When it came to his wife, Han Yu dared not be sloppy, resorting to activating the undercover contacts around Liu Xiu to investigate the motivation behind his actions. The inquiry went smoother than expected, and soon Han Yu had largely figured out the reason for Liu Xiu’s behavior. Although Liu Xiu had been discreet, his actions were significant and involved many people, making it impossible to hide from those who were observant. Just when Han Yu had cleared up the reasons, he felt the urge to catch his wife and give her a spanking.

This girl was too careless in her actions, having sworn promises to him, yet the result turned out to be…
