Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 208: Xiao Jin, Lend Me Some Money

Ban Xiaobo felt a little guilty about the number of Crystal Cores, as Captain Lu seemed to have a family to provide for and must also be running short on Crystal Cores.

“Captain Lu, don’t worry, just tell me how much you need!”

Ban Xiaobo patted his chest, promising.

Pfft…

Liang Jiuqing, overhearing their conversation, couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Lu Hao short of Crystal Cores?!

That was probably the funniest joke she’d heard recently.

Lu Hao himself didn’t understand how Ban Xiaobo’s thought process had worked. Did his question sound like he was asking for a loan?

Gao Lei was speechless. Couldn’t Ban Xiaobo see? It was obvious that this man knew the people at the base’s gate, did he look like someone short of Crystal Cores?

Su Jin and the others laughed upon hearing this. She thought they were short on Crystal Cores, but it wasn’t to the point where they would borrow from someone who only had 200 of them.

The S Base User Manual stated that those who wanted to rent a place upon entering the base needed to register at the Housing Management Center on the right side of the base wall and pay a certain number of Crystal Cores.

Without saying anything more to Ban Xiaobo, Lu Hao went up to Su Jin and said, “Xiao Jin, lend me some money.”

Pfft…

Once again, Liang Jiuqing was taken aback. So, did Lu Hao need Su Jin’s permission every time he used Crystal Cores?

But she didn’t feel the slightest embarrassment for Lu Hao; instead, she thought how loving the two seemed, what was going on?!

Su Jin, holding her forehead, didn’t know how to respond to Lu Hao. Guessing what he intended to do, she could only offer an awkward smile and pull Lu Hao aside, saying, “I’ll go with you.”

“Dad, you guys go ahead and drive back. Lu Hao and I will be there shortly,” Su Jin then turned to her family, who had finished checking in, and spoke.

Su Xiangzhe and the others nodded, greeted Liang Jiuqing, and drove into the base.

So, Captain Lu’s group originally lived inside the base, Ban Xiaobo finally realized, coming to the realization belatedly.

It wasn’t until Lu Hao and Su Jin, leading them into the Housing Management Center, that Ban Xiaobo understood why Lu Hao had asked how much money they had.

Lu Hao wanted to help them!

Just now, Lu Hao and Su Jin had rented rooms for them and paid the rent for a full three months!

That was in the villa district, no less!

They, a bunch of poor wretches, were actually going to move into the highest-level villa district the moment they arrived!

Ban Xiaobo suddenly felt like kneeling; it was all thanks to the grace of Lu Hao and Su Jin. He really didn’t know what to say.

Gao Lei, Xu Chao, Tian Liao, and Ren Feipeng were also very moved. Just a moment ago, when Ban Xiaobo said he would go save Lu Hao’s vehicle, they had tried to stop him, never expecting that Lu Hao would thank them in such a way, with a whole 350 Crystal Cores!

With the little money they had, if they had really gone to rent a place to stay, they probably would have been left to “drink the northwest wind” for the rest of their days.

“Feipeng, I swear I will dig for Crystal Cores diligently from now on,” Xu Chao said, now deeply regretting that they had abandoned so many zombie bodies before.

By now, Lu Hao and Su Jin had already gone ahead, since they had no vehicle and were slowly walking back. Meanwhile, Ban Xiaobo and his group had to stay back to complete some housing information registration.

Many staff members of the Housing Management Center knew Lu Hao and Su Jin. They were surprised to see the pair come in because Liang Jiuhui had told them that there were two owned properties in the base that no longer required rent payments, and one of them belonged to Su Jin and her group.

It wasn’t until the two of them had paid three months’ rent for the people behind them that they finally breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing two homeowners come here, they had thought that some big shot was selling their property, but it turned out they were just helping friends rent a place!

The big shots really are caring and loyal.

So, everyone in the hall came to know that Su Jin and Lu Hao had paid three months’ rent for their new friends.

Ban Xiaobo and his group were also puzzled by the enthusiastic service here, and it wasn’t until a short-haired female registrar asked them a few questions that he realized, all she was asking about was all about Lu Hao and Su Jin.

“Do you know the two people who were just here?” the short-haired female registrar asked with a serious look.

“Yes, old friends,” Ban Xiaobo didn’t know what these people wanted to do and answered with the simplest replies.

“Did they bring you to the base?” the short-haired female registrar continued asking.

“Yes…”

Seeing that the group didn’t wish to talk much, the female registrar finally stopped asking questions, and besides, she had already found out everything she wanted to know.

Because there were not many survivors who had the ability to live in the villa area, Ban Xiaobo and his group were assigned to a set that had yet to be occupied by anyone.

Most of the villas here had already been remodeled. Every room in the villas was labeled with a room number, even the former storage rooms and basements had been transformed into livable spaces, although the basements were relatively cheaper. Some larger living rooms had also been divided into rooms with thick soundproof panels.

But even so, when Ban Xiaobo and his group moved in, they still felt as if they had entered a luxury home. After all, these places were designed and decorated to villa standards, using the best materials, and they were assigned to some of the most spacious rooms upstairs, two of which even had private bathrooms!

“I feel like I have come back to life,” Gao Lei collapsed onto a genuine leather sofa and said. His standard of living before the apocalypse had not been low, so being here felt like coming home.

“Ban Xiaobo, I’ve remembered your brother! If he ever has trouble, I’ll definitely support you going to take a knife for him!” Xu Chao clenched his fist and said.

“That’s not right, why shouldn’t it be you taking the knife?” Ban Xiaobo said.

“Give it up, with those meager skills of yours, would you even be a match for them?” Tian Liao joined the teasing fray.

“I don’t like the way you talk, do you know how to have a conversation, do you?” Ban Xiaobo couldn’t help but pick up the keys from the table to throw them at Tian Liao.

Ren Feipeng shook his head, opened the backpack on his back, and then poured out all the Crystal Cores from a plastic box, saying, “This is all the property we five have now. Although we don’t have to worry about a place to live for the next three months, we still rely on these to solve the food problem. If we can’t earn more Crystal Cores within these three months, we might have to live in the slums.”

“Feipeng,” Ban Xiaobo sighed.

“Hm?”

“Do you know that talking like this, you can easily end up with no friends?” Ban Xiaobo said earnestly, then collected all the Crystal Cores and handed them back to him, confidently saying, “Do I look like someone who lives in the slums? What a joke!”

Inside the base, Lu Hao and Su Jin walked side by side.

Su Jin was in a great mood. This feeling of coming back to a home after completing a mission outside was wonderful.

“Xiao Jin”

“Hm?”

“Thank you for helping me pay,” Lu Hao said with a smile, finding the way Su Jin had helped him pay to be really adorable.

“…”

So, how stingy had she been before that this guy was so moved over just over three hundred Crystal Cores?
