Chapter 471: Chapter 471: The Seventh, New Great Power
In the current situation, due to the presence of Baphomet, the quasi-godlike demon lord, the battle between the dragons and the giants had reached a stalemate. Neither side was taking direct action for the moment, both watching and waiting.
Only a few seconds passed before Baphomet grew impatient. His eyes gradually turned blood red, and his breathing became heavier as he stared menacingly at the Lord of Storms.
If the Lord of Storms was unwilling to make a pact with Baphomet, then to ensure the Dragon Gods would ally with him after the war, Baphomet would seriously consider turning against the Giant Pantheon, assisting the Dragon Gods in defeating the giants. Though it involved certain risks, Baphomet, the Beast Prince, was naturally belligerent and didn't mind engaging in the battle.
On the other side, seeing Baphomet growing restless and eager to fight, the Lord of Storms finally compromised. Amidst the slightly disappointed looks from the Dragon Gods, he said to Baphomet in a deep voice, "Alright, Baphomet, you win. I'll make a contract with you."
The Dragon Gods were eyeing closely. If Baphomet became their ally, adding another quasi-godlike power against the Lord of Storms was something he did not want to see.
"You really are indecisive," Baphomet sneered. "Couldn't you make up your mind earlier? Hmph, I now hope the Dragon Pantheon wins, just to teach you a lesson."
With a deep breath, Baphomet's eyes lost their red hue, and his raging battle intent dissipated, returning to rationality. The Lord of Storms, with a grim face, made the pact with Baphomet.
After making a pact with the Dragon Gods as well, Baphomet's rough, ox-like face was filled with satisfaction and delight, even mooing a couple of times. Glancing between the Giant and Dragon Gods, the Minotaur King laughed heartily, "Now, everyone, just pretend I'm not here. Watching gods battle up close is a rare treat."
Thud! Baphomet planted his blood-red giant axe into the ground and sat down, cross-legged, as if preparing to enjoy the show from the front row. The ogre god scratched his head and sat down beside Baphomet, following his lead.
"If you choose to stay, don't blame us if you get caught in the crossfire," the Lord of Storms said. Baphomet snorted lightly and ignored him.
Although Baphomet and Annan often clashed and had grudges, Baphomet respected Annan as an opponent and despised the Lord of Storms for betraying Annan's trust by luring him into his divine kingdom for an ambush. This disdain was one of the reasons Baphomet heeded the advice to remain neutral in this war, hoping to see the Lord of Storms suffer a significant loss, or ideally, perish.
Despite being fearless and not afraid of the Lord of Storms, Baphomet knew his strength was between the Metal Dragon God and the Undying Dragon Queen. Choosing this moment to threaten the Lord of Storms made it hard for the latter to refuse.
Meanwhile, the usually calm and composed Lord of Storms looked grim. He hadn't expected Baphomet to turn against him, not only refusing to fight but also threatening him.
"However, even without Baphomet, I will win this war! I cannot lose." Having slain his revered father, the Lord of Storms had no retreat. With unwavering determination, he regained his composure, his eyes deep and still as he gazed at the Metal Dragon God and the Undying Dragon Queen.
"Come on, I hope you've improved since our last encounter in the Radiant Forest!" he said. Unlike before, when the battles were more about killing enemy deities than direct confrontation, the Lord of Storms and the Dragon Gods seemed ready for a head-on clash. The Lord of Storms' fury burned, prepared to fight.
Thunder, storms, fire, and ice surged, converging toward the Lord of Storms.
Meteorological Authority: Celestial Phenomena!
Natural disasters materialized, and six new arms sprouted from the Lord of Storms' sides and back.
Creation Authority: Eight-armed Titan!
A blue sky suddenly descended, replacing the original dark red sky of the Firelands, overseeing the entire realm.
Sky Authority: Sky Overlord!
Golden suns rose one after another, forming ten suns, shining down with endless light and heat, like the eyes of the Lord of Storms overlooking the Firelands.
Solar Authority: Sun's Eye!
The eight-armed deity stood towering over the Firelands, almost as tall as the heavens and earth, with ten suns shining behind him. His divine presence was overwhelming, sending ripples of fear in all directions.
The Lord of Storms did not hold back, unleashing his strongest battle form and domain. He concentrated his divine power within himself, preparing for a direct clash with the Dragon Gods.
He wasn't using divine artifacts or weapons, as his current level had surpassed their usefulness. The consumption of divine power wasn't worth their effects, which were now a burden.
"Though I hate to admit it, this guy is ridiculously strong," Baphomet said, licking his lips as he watched the Lord of Storms.
The Metal Dragon God and the Undying Dragon Queen exchanged a glance before both flapping their wings, their massive forms leaving trails in the blue sky as they charged toward the Lord of Storms.
The ten suns shot beams of radiant light, sweeping toward the Metal Dragon God and the Undying Dragon Queen. Despite their enormous size, they agilely dodged the beams, not a single scale touched, quickly closing in on the Lord of Storms.
Boom! The eight-armed titan form of the Lord of Storms clashed with the two Dragon Gods in close combat. The Metal Dragon God's golden claws gleamed, while the Lord of Storms' fists, crackling with lightning, met them head-on.
Crack! Countless arcs of electricity burst from the Lord of Storms' fists, striking the Metal Dragon God's scales, creating web-like cracks. The claws of the Metal Dragon God tore into the Lord of Storms' fists, leaving deep wounds.
Flaming arms sprouted from the Lord of Storms' back, reaching for the Undying Dragon Queen's neck.
Whoosh! The Undying Dragon Queen's wing, carrying immense power, struck the flaming arms, sending a wave of fiery energy.
During this, the ten suns continued to emit light beams, weakening the Dragon Gods' bodies. The beams that missed the Dragons were absorbed by the Lord of Storms, strengthening his divine body. The Lord of Storms occasionally used his magic authority to unleash various spells, continuously bombarding the Dragon Gods.
In contrast, the Dragon Gods didn't display such dazzling powers. The Metal Dragon God and the Undying Dragon Queen knew their magic couldn't compare to the Lord of Storms, who inherited Annan's magical authority, so they didn't use it. Their middle-tier divine power also couldn't match the higher-tier.
However, the quasi-godlike power of the Dragon Gods lay in their physical bodies. Every part of their bodies was superior to ordinary divine artifacts, allowing them to contend with higher-tier divine powers. Their scales were highly defensive, and they had strong regenerative abilities.
Their claws, fangs, and breath were devastatingly powerful, making the Lord of Storms cautious. Thus, like in the Radiant Forest, the battle between the Lord of Storms and the two Dragon Gods remained deadlocked. Though they inflicted minor injuries on each other, they healed instantly, able to fight indefinitely without a decisive blow.
However, the longer the battle with the two Dragon Gods dragged on, the more the Lord of Storms' resentment grew. If Baphomet joined and distracted one Dragon God, the situation would be different. Alone, the Lord of Storms was confident in defeating any quasi-godlike Dragon.
As the gods clashed, causing the Firelands to groan under the destruction, the gods in the Heroic Realm grew increasingly uneasy. More than just three powerful beings were fighting. The first Iron Dragon King and the God of Nature and Hunting were also locked in fierce combat. Five powerful beings, along with other Dragon and Giant Gods, were wreaking havoc in the absence of the Beast Lord to mitigate the damage.
Simultaneously, in the Sky Garden, the God of Strength and Courage noticed a sudden anomaly. A pillar of light rose from the silent mountains, drawing the gods' attention. A crown of thorns and flowers emerged from the light, absorbing the vast life energy of the Heroic Realm, as countless spirits faded into the energy.
The crown grew larger, emitting intense white light, which then coalesced into a massive humanoid figure, radiating a power not inferior to a standard higher-tier divine power. This was the Spirit King. When the Heroic Realm faced severe destruction, the Hero's Crown would rise, absorbing life energy and spirits to birth a Spirit King to halt the destruction.
The gods, with their omniscient perception, immediately understood its purpose upon seeing it. "Is this the legendary Hero's Crown? If recognized by the Heroic Realm, one can become the Spirit King. So the legend is true. But how to gain the Heroic Realm's recognition? That information seems well hidden."
The God of Strength and Courage's eyes gleamed with desire. Despite occupying the Hall of Heroes, he wasn't the master of the spirits and couldn't command them. In the next moment, the Spirit King descended upon the ravaged Firelands as a beam of white light.
"Haha, this is getting more interesting," laughed Baphomet, still eager for more chaos. As an observer, he wanted to see as much bloodshed as possible.
The Spirit King's arrival
didn't halt the battle between the Dragon and Giant Gods, but it did draw their attention. The already chaotic battlefield became even more unpredictable with the Spirit King's presence, a completely unforeseen event, as it was the first time the Heroic Realm faced such extensive godly conflict, necessitating the birth of a Spirit King.
The Lord of Storms frowned. The existence of plane consciousness was a debated topic among scholars, but higher-tier beings like the gods had a clearer understanding. The Lord of Storms, the Metal Dragon God, and the Undying Dragon Queen believed in the existence of plane consciousness.
For instance, the Beast Lord was the embodiment of the Beastlands' consciousness, possessing self-awareness and independent thought. However, the Heroic Realm's consciousness was weaker, only instinctively defending itself during massive destruction, creating a Spirit King.
Even powerful plane consciousness couldn't always manifest a form. For example, the Abyss' consciousness was too vast to unify and manifest, leading to the myth of the Demon King. If a Demon King were born, the Abyss' consciousness would merge with it, creating a supreme ruler. This myth was why many powerful demons sought the title of Demon King and why the gods feared the Abyss. The stronger one was, the more they sensed the truth of this myth.
The Spirit King, with a face devoid of features, silently turned towards the five higher-tier divine beings. The most destructive ones were the Lord of Storms, the Metal Dragon God, the Undying Dragon Queen, the first Iron Dragon King, and the God of Nature and Hunting.
Blades, spears, halberds, hammers, flails, swords, daggers, short swords, and siege hammers materialized behind the Spirit King, raining down on the five higher-tier divine beings. These weapons, imbued with the spirits' will, were known as treasures, possessing formidable power.
The Spirit King had only one instinctual goal: to kill or expel those causing destruction. The stronger they were, the more destructive they were, and the more the Spirit King saw them as enemies. Though individually, the newly born quasi-godlike Spirit King was weaker than any of the present higher-tier divine beings, the chaotic battlefield ensured its participation would cause significant changes.
"Damn it!" the Lord of Storms muttered, his eyes narrowing as he faced the relentless onslaught of attacks. Although he couldn't completely ignore them, he was determined to fight on. The golden treasure storm continuously pierced and exploded upon him, making his movements slightly stiff and his divine body unstable.
Seizing this opportunity, the Metal Dragon God and the Undying Dragon Queen launched a flurry of attacks, pushing the Lord of Storms to the brink. They maintained their advantage until the Spirit King turned its attacks toward them, allowing the Lord of Storms to regain equilibrium.
However, despite their shared predicament, the Lord of Storms bore the brunt of the Spirit King's fury, gradually losing ground against the combined assault of the Dragon Gods. "Haha, didn't expect this, did you?" the Metal Dragon God roared with laughter. The Lord of Storms scowled, blocking the storm of treasures while casting a glance at the Undying Dragon Queen. "Did you lure me here knowing about the Spirit King's existence?"
The Undying Dragon Queen responded honestly, "No, we didn't. But it makes this all the more satisfying." They had indeed lured the Lord of Storms, but the Spirit King's emergence was a surprise to them too. Hearing this, the Lord of Storms' face darkened, and he fell silent. The Spirit King's arrival had shifted the battle's balance.
Meanwhile, in the secondary battlefield, the Spirit King's power wasn't infinite, so it didn't target these gods. With Baphomet and the Ogre God abstaining, the Dragon Gods outnumbered the Giant Gods six to four.
The Destruction Dragon God, Ruby Dragon God, Justice and Arbitration Dragon God, Death and Judgment Dragon God, Life Dragon, and Trickery and Runes Dragon faced off against the Stone Giant God, Hill Giant God, Giant Love God, and Giant Trickster God.
The six-on-four advantage allowed the Dragon Gods to dominate. The Destruction Dragon God Carrikas raised his neck, gathering power before unleashing a fan-shaped wall of fire, enveloping all the Giant Gods. Stone peaks rose, forming towering walls to shield against the flames. Most of the fire was blocked, but some reached the other Giant Gods, adding to their plight.
The Destruction Dragon God's attacks were extremely powerful. Besides the Stone Giant God and Hill Giant God, the other two were weaker and less defensive, making them vulnerable. "Love God! Focus on the Destruction Dragon God. It's strong but simple-minded," the Hill Giant God communicated telepathically.
Giant Love God Elanis, despite her weaker divine power, possessed a powerful ability. Draped in a semi-translucent gown, her flawless form emanated a morning haze-like radiance, enticing those who beheld her. Upon hearing the Hill Giant God's directive, Elanis sighed softly before turning to Carrikas, her veil lifting.
Love Authority: True Love Eternal.
"What a beautiful lass!" Carrikas paused, his breath heavy upon seeing Elanis. Her rainbow-colored eyes, like vortices, drew him in, evoking strong courting desires. This wasn't mere attraction; Carrikas felt a genuine emotional pull. Elanis' eyes mirrored sincere admiration for him.
True Love Eternal wasn't just a charm spell; it created mutual, real affection. It couldn't be undone by Elanis herself. Using it to kill meant immense, long-lasting sorrow for her. "Carrikas, my love, let's leave this endless war. Let's find peace together," she said with deep affection.
Carrikas agreed instantly, leaping from the Dragon's ranks to Elanis. The other Giant Gods didn't interfere. With a flap of his wings, Carrikas scooped Elanis up, their massive forms contrasting yet filled with mutual affection. However, instead of leaving, Carrikas bound Elanis with flaming chains, restricting her movement and divine power.
"Why, my love?" Elanis, heartbroken, asked. "My dear, I love you too much to let you go. You'll stay with me forever," Carrikas declared. "After the war, I'll take you to my divine realm and cherish you."
Despite the intense battles and shifting alliances, the outcome remained uncertain as new forces entered the fray, adding layers of complexity to the unfolding war.
