Chapter 255: Calamity
Jumping across buildings.
I had done this only once before, and that was in England, when I was pursuing Bettany.
The difference between then and now was that the buildings here were way taller and more spread out, bringing a whole new experience.
"The wind feels nice."
Fwuuuuush!!
Speeding through the air, the feel of the cold night wind on my face was quite refreshing and slightly reviving. For a few seconds, my mind wandered, fantasizing about flying—an old desire bubbling up inside me.
That feeling didn't last long though, as I soon descended from the air. My feet touched the ground gently, and I didn't stop—I kept moving.
Soon, my feet lifted off again, and I continued leaping from rooftop to rooftop until I was several meters clear of the entrapment that had been set up for me.
"This should do."
I gently laid Betty's body down on the edge of the rooftop I was on, then turned back and returned to my initial location.
"Are you guys ready?"
"Take him first."
Kyle's two guards took a step back, pushing their leader forward. But I wasn't taking that risk.
"Nope."
Not bothering to debate with the two men, I threw them over my shoulders, glad they knew to protest silently. Then, I kicked off the roof.
This time, I had two bodies on my shoulders, but I wasn't the least bit bothered. I was strong—and with my power, this was no strain for me.
Within a few minutes, I returned. Now it was just me and Kyle on the rooftop.
"Shall we?" I stretched a hand out to the man.
"Who are you?"
"You know I'm not telling you that."
"All this strength, and the best you can do is hide behind a mask and run across rooftops? Let's join hands. I plan to run for the country's office. You'll gain a lot."
"I think I'm fine."
"I won't persuade you further, but think about my offer. No matter how strong a blind gorilla is, even a wolf can take it down."
"Thank you."
Without further delay, I mounted my last passenger on my shoulder and looked up at the sky.
Within the barrier, there were a few witches, but the strange thing was that none of them came to the center. They all stayed at the peripheries.
In seconds, I crossed the required rooftops and dropped Kyle to the ground. Then I used Echo to sweep the new environment.
"What's our destination?" Kyle asked, looking over the horizon.
"There." I pointed at a building with a tall antenna blinking a red light. It was inhabited and located just outside the coverage of the dome.
"Three, four, six, seven buildings... That's a lot. It's some distance, but if you could carry us the same way you did across the rooftops, it'd save a lot of hassle and time."
"They've hidden themselves, but inside the buildings ahead—in the top rooms—there are witches."
"I'll take you guys down. We'll move on foot."
With Betty already secure on my shoulder, I moved to the edge of the rooftop. Kyle and the guards followed.
"Ehh... are you sure about this? This building is pretty high."
Not answering, I was about to make my move—
But the sharp whine of what could only be a jet engine reached my ears.
"A fighter," I muttered, my blood going cold.
And it wasn't just me.
All of us on the rooftop held our breath as one of mankind's most destructive arsenals appeared in the sky ahead of us—and without fanfare, released two missiles.
Powerlessness.
This dreadful feeling swept over me, and I couldn't help but think how long it had been since I last felt this way.
Vroooom!!
Booooooom!!
The world ended.
Everything went white. Everything went quiet.
And just as I was about to sink into self-loathing, a sharp scream rang through my mind.
"I'm still alive."
As my ears began picking up sounds again, this was the first thought that registered in my head.
I didn't know when I hit the ground, but I quickly got to my feet.
I turned and looked for the target of those missiles, because if I was alive, it meant they hadn't hit me or the area close to me.
I didn't need to look far to understand that the state of the area up to two kilometers around had been affected.
Despite the heavy debris and dust floating in the air, my eyes narrowed at a particular spot.
In addition to the buildings destroyed for meters around me—just one building separating me from becoming a victim of this unexpected airstrike—there was a deep crater at the center.
That center had been the location of the story building where Kyle and his guards had sought refuge, where the bunker had been, where I had just left
"I nearly died. Did she set me up"
After this thought, I turned to look at the men around me, then cast Echo.
"Soldiers."
In my 3D model, I could see military jeeps running up to the area.
And immediately, I knew—
My time was up.
Ninja Mamma's request was that I bring her Kyle.
Throwing the unconscious man over my shoulder, I turned to Betty, whom I had dropped earlier, and did the same.
Then, taking one last look at Kyle's guards, making sure they would be alright, I jumped off the building.
For the second time tonight, the wind whipped past as I fell.
And just before my legs hit the ground, I took in one last drag of Psion through my mouth and with my knees bending, absorbed the impact of the fall.
Storing away the impact, I stood up straight and without haste began running, my target Farak and Diego.
With the military ground troops about to enter this area at anytime, I didn't have much time.
Echo!!
Taking a 3D picture of the world, I easily spotted the two men and asi moved I felt on of the body's n my person stir.
"Betty"
"Abdul" the female groggily called.
Whilst the impact of the missle strike had render Kyle and his gaurds unconscious it seemed it had helped awaken Betty and as I moved, the woman pushed to be put down.
"Stay still we don't have much time. The military is here."
My words froze Betty but she went silent and began observing her surroundings.
"What caused this destruction."
"An airstrike"
"I see"
It didn't take me long to arrive beside the two men, meeting them camped within an alley, Farak having on a headset and playing around with a radio.
Just arriving, I heard Diego who was with a black antenna phone confirm my appearance with the target and freeing the two bodies on my shoulders, before I could let out a word he rushed to me with the phone.
"For you"
I frowned and took the cell and immediately the unmistakable voice of ninja momma sounded.
"Kill the three of them"
