Chapter 131 - What am I supposed to do?
“So…”
After letting WuYue and Liu Meng inside, Bai Yu sat in the living room, glancing at the two. Though the tension between them had eased—if only slightly—it was still palpable. With a sigh, she spoke up:
“You’re both here to help make breakfast for YouYu, huh?”
“…Yeah! That’s right!”
The moment Bai Yu said those words, WuYue and Liu Meng, who had been locked in a hushed argument, finally fell silent. WuYue gave a small nod, admitting the reason for her visit.
She added, “After all, Bai Yu, didn’t you say you were afraid you wouldn’t be able to make something YouYu likes? That’s why I came over!”
“…Yeah, I know that. But you didn’t reply to any of my messages earlier, so I thought you were still asleep.”
“So, I had no choice but to ask Liu Meng instead.”
Hearing that, WuYue hesitated for a moment, then scratched her cheek, her voice carrying a trace of embarrassment.
“Uh, well… I guess I was just kind of… anxious? Yeah, that’s probably it. So I rushed over right away without thinking to reply.”
“After all… I can’t let him suffer any more…”
“That’s just an excuse to see YouYu as soon as possible, isn’t it?”
Liu Meng’s voice cut in suddenly.
“When you first arrived… I saw you. Sure, your overall appearance looked fine, but your clothes and hair were a mess in places.”
“You used this as an excuse to come see him, didn’t you?”
“…Ha?! W-Well, I won’t deny that played a part! But I really did come here to help Bai Yu make breakfast, okay?!”
“Is that so?”
Liu Meng chuckled at WuYue’s flustered rebuttal. Then, reaching into the bag she had brought with her, she took out several items—ingredients, seasonings, and kitchen tools—all things she and YouYu had bought together during a previous outing.
As she laid them out on the table, she spoke in a calm but firm tone.
“If you were really here just to help Bai Yu make breakfast, then you would’ve come prepared, wouldn’t you? Like making sure there were ingredients YouYu likes, checking if anything was missing, or bringing whatever he might need.”
“But if you didn’t think of any of that…”
“That means you acted purely on impulse, doesn’t it?”
“That’s way too much, Liu Meng!”
Sharing Bai Yu’s look of disbelief, WuYue protested.
“It’s just breakfast! Who puts that much thought into it?! And what’s with that tone, like you’re talking about a little kid?!”
“Also—!”
Her gaze landed on the ingredients Liu Meng had brought, and her brows furrowed.
“The stuff you brought… YouYu doesn’t even like these, does he?”
“Even if he lost his memories, he only forgot the time he spent with us! His personal tastes should still be intact!”
“You know what he likes. So why bring all this?”
“Or… are you saying that during that time, you were the one making his breakfasts?”
“That’s right.”
Liu Meng’s expression remained serious.
“I did ask YouYu about what he liked, and I remember most of it… But aside from a few things that are acceptable, the rest isn’t exactly healthy.”
“Once in a while is fine, but eating like that all the time isn’t good for him. You understand that much, don’t you?”
“But… YouYu isn’t even a regular human anymore! Does it really matter?!”
WuYue blurted out, stunned.
“Don’t tell me you’re just using this as an excuse to ‘control’ him! Gradually shaping his tastes through the meals you make every day—”
“Think whatever you want.”
Liu Meng shook her head. Glancing at both WuYue and Bai Yu—who looked like she wanted to interject—she simply gathered her things and headed toward the kitchen.
As she walked, she turned back slightly and said, “No more arguing. If I’m right, YouYu’s still asleep, isn’t he? We shouldn’t wake him.”
“More importantly, we should focus on having breakfast ready before he wakes up.”
“…So you’re dodging my question, huh?”
WuYue frowned at Liu Meng’s retreating figure but still let out a huff before following her toward the kitchen.
Once there, she glanced at the ingredients Bai Yu had already set out, then at Liu Meng, who had already started cooking.
“You’d better hurry up! I’m making something too!”
“…Don’t worry. I’ve been making YouYu’s breakfasts for a while now, so I know his schedule. It’ll be ready by the time he wakes up.”
“…Why do you make it sound so annoying?”
Watching Liu Meng work with practiced ease, WuYue felt a sudden surge of competitiveness. Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself and started preparing as well.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
That left only… Bai Yu, who stood there, unsure of what to do.
“……”
“Sigh…”
Watching them, Bai Yu let out a deep sigh, then approached and asked hesitantly,
“So, about what I was asking earlier—?”
“Ah! Sorry, Bai Yu! I don’t think I have time to teach you right now! The timing’s just not great… Just watch from the side for now!”
“Same here. If you need anything, I’ll message you later.”
“……”
Seeing the two of them fully absorbed in their tasks, Bai Yu opened her mouth but ultimately chose not to interrupt. Instead, she could only watch from a distance.
After a while, she realized she wasn’t learning anything useful just by watching.
Letting out another sigh, she turned and walked to her bedroom door.
Before stepping inside, she glanced back at them one last time—then quietly pushed the door open and slipped inside.
As the room fell silent, Bai Yu gazed at the sleeping YouYu and murmured,
“YouYu… I said I’d do anything for you…”
“But now…”
Recalling how WuYue and Liu Meng had taken over what she had wanted to do, her voice grew a little heavy.
“What am I supposed to do?”
