Chapter 426: Meeting Protector Vari Again
Long before Nara was presumed dead, she was best friends with Lady Lani, who back then was a disciple of the Shadow Haven Assassin Sect. One of the top ten sects on the human continent.
It's the top sect in the Kyrrith Kingdom.
She was a rising star, just like Nara was.
They became friends when Nara won the sect competition after battling her for two hours before the winner was determined.
Since then, they've done missions together, and through that, their rivalry was born from the countless battles they fought.
On the surface, they are rivals, but they are best friends behind closed doors.
When Nara died, it broke her.
For an entire year, she never drew her dagger. She only picked it up when Protector Vari picked her as her hidden disciple.
Naturally, her master, who is a Kingdom Protector, knew what had happened to Nara, but like the other protectors, she chose not to concern herself with individual matters.
It was the rule between the Protectors to ensure they didn't abuse their power.
For years, Lady Lani believed her best friend died.
So now that they are reunited, had Kent and Alina not been around, they would probably be hugging and crying tears of joy by now.
"Are you here for the Pill Master Competition?" Lady Lani asked.
"Yes. But first, I want to go see Big Sister Vari," Kent smiled, having already reached the brother-and-sister name basis with one of the strongest beings on the entire continent.
Lady Lani just sighed.
"She is also expecting you." Kent stood up.
"She is in the same room you met her in last time." He nodded, looking at Alina.
"I will be back soon, my Sunshine." Alina blushed, watching Kent go. When he was gone, the three ladies looked at each other.
"Big Sister Nara, how have you been?" Alina asked.
"I am well. It's just that your sisters are just too shameless, so I had to catch some fresh air away from them," Nara replied, taking her veil off.
Lady Lani did the same, but one could tell she was stunned looking at Nara's appearance.
Nara saw her expression and smile in her heart. But Lady Lani didn't think too much about it and just smiled.
She then looked at Alina and asked,
"When did you two meet?"
Just now, Alina asked a question that suggested she and Nara had met. But as far as she was aware, Alina hadn't gone anywhere in the past days.
If that was the case, then how in the hell were they talking like they knew each other? She wasn't jealous of their relationship; she was just curious.
"What has that got to do with you?" Nara asked, looking at Lady Lani disdainfully. "Alina, don't tell her anything. She is a worm that would work her way into your heart and destroy you from within."
Lady Lani just smirked.
"So what happened? Knowing you, dying is the last thing that will happen to you. So what happened?" She instead asked the question she had been meaning to ask.
"I was kidnapped. Could you believe that?" Though she said it sarcastically, her seriousness was evident. She truly felt the pain and was now projecting it.
"Though I should be laughing at you by now, I must first know who kidnapped you."
"Old Victor."
"Wait, Sect Master Victor was responsible for your death... or so we thought."
"Indeed. But he is dead now, so let's talk about other things." Nara smiled. She may be fine with her new life, but she doesn't want to hear more or even talk about the sect master.
Her will is strong, but some things are better left alone.
Of course, she would have to deal with it one of these days, but for now, she is fine and happy.
"How did you escape from the Forest Queen?" Before her presumed death, she had gotten a message from her saying she was trapped somewhere in the wild forest.
This made her take on a mission, and she planned to go save her. But he met the sect master on the way instead.
So, seeing her now meant she had survived and managed to escape. She most certainly wanted to know how.
"I had to come to an agreement with the bitch, so she let me go. I wanted to rub it in your face, but you died before I could get the chance."
"I guess that was my luck then." They laughed, but they continued to catch up.
Meanwhile, Kent appeared in VIP Room 1, where Protector Vari was waiting for him.
"You are here," Lady Vari said, sipping tea as she locked eyes with Kent. After sipping the tea, she set the cup down and adjusted her veil.
"Sit." Kent nodded and sat down.
Though he was shameless, she knew the lady before him was someone he had to give the much-needed respect.
"How are you?" Lady Vari said, looking curiously at Kent.
"I am doing well, Big Sister Vari." Kent smiled. "I can see you are also doing well."
"Oh, what shows I am doing well?" she asked with a furrowed brow.
"Someone as beautiful and capable as you wouldn't be having a bad day, right?" He smiled.
"What if I am?"
"Then, as your little brother, I will advise Big Sister to get a man in her life."
For a moment, the two only stared at each other before bursting into small laughter.
"You can't play this mind game with me, Kent. I am not Lani, who doesn't even know you have already trapped her," she smirked.
"A wise man once said, 'They will never know until it's too late.'" Kent smiled.
"Oh, so you think you can win this game?"
"Naturally, of course. Sometimes, you just have to listen to the heart and let it do the talking." He leaned in closer and smiled. "What is your heart telling you, Big Sister?"
"It's telling me to hang you upside down and give you a good spanking," she giggled.
"I see. I guess your kink isn't too bad. I will be sure to fulfill this wish of yours whenever I manage to sink my fangs into you," Kent laughed.
"You—" Lady Vari chose to stop while her sanity was still intact. The brat in front of her was rather good with his words.
Kent just smiled, knowing the lady in front of him wasn't someone he could easily conquer. Strangely, he wasn't really rushing to do anything.
It was like talking to her was enough for him. The lady was the strongest on the continent, yet here they were, joking and laughing like it was the most normal thing to do.
"Will you be coming to watch me do alchemy?" Kent asked.
"Why, are you scared somebody will attack you, so you want to use me as your shield?" Lady Vari asked, smiling.
"The gods wouldn't forgive me if I used a beauty such as yourself as a meat shield. I just want you to come out and watch me concoct pills. It could be fun."
"I don't dabble in mortal stuff, Kent. But don't worry, I will keep an eye on you. But if your enemies come, know that you are on your own.
I will only step in if someone on my level comes after you."
Kent squinted his eyes, hearing that.
