Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Mew’s “Good Person” Card

Chapter 25: Mew's "Good Person" Card

Apparently, Asahi had underestimated his own reputation.

After he confirmed his identity, Officer Jenny's eyes practically sparkled, and even Brock turned to give him a second look.

"Am I really that famous?"

Asahi was puzzled. Had he been so isolated in the Nature Reserve that he was completely out of touch with the outside world?

Brock and Jenny both nodded in unison.

Although Mt. Moon wasn't a designated Nature Reserve, it often attracted poachers seeking to capture Clefairy. Both Brock and Jenny had caught their fair share of poachers, and through them, they'd often heard tales of the "Demon Ranger."

In a way, these poachers acted as a traveling PR machine for Asahi, spreading his name wherever they went.

After hearing their explanations, Asahi was speechless.

No wonder Team Rocket had targeted him the moment he left Indigo Plateau—it was all thanks to those poachers.

"I've also heard about you from my sister. She works in the Nature Reserve too!" Jenny added, recalling her sister's stories of Asahi's accomplishments.

Capturing over a thousand poachers—legendary was hardly an exaggeration.

Someone capable of taking down an entire Rocket Team squad by himself? That was just par for the course.

"You're Keiko's younger sister?" Asahi took a closer look at Jenny.

That explained why she seemed somewhat familiar.

Well, maybe it was just his imagination. Let's be real—most of the Jennys looked like they came out of the same mold. Unlike Brock, Asahi wasn't skilled at differentiating between them.

Still, it wasn't surprising to run into the sibling of an old colleague. The Jenny family was deeply embedded in law enforcement across the Alliance. Chances were he'd run into more Jennys in the future.

"Let's reintroduce ourselves then. Asahi, former ranger, now an officially licensed Alliance researcher."

"Jenny Suzune, Captain of the Pokémon Crime Task Force, Pewter City Police Department."

"Brock, current Pewter City Gym Leader."

With all three of them being public servants under the Alliance—and having just taken down Team Rocket together—their relationship quickly became much friendlier.

Asahi proceeded to share details about Team Rocket's real target being Mew, though he conveniently omitted the part about Mew currently lying invisible on his head.

"What? Team Rocket was after Mew?"

"Good thing they didn't succeed—otherwise, it could've been a disaster!"

Both Brock and Jenny heaved sighs of relief, their expressions still tinged with fear.

Whether it was Legendary or Mythical Pokémon, they often possessed unfathomable powers. The consequences of Team Rocket capturing Mew were unimaginable.

"Mew isn't so easily caught," Asahi said, shaking his head.

Even he had only managed to reveal Mew by relying on Gardevoir's Mega Evolution.

There was no way those Team Rocket grunts could truly threaten Mew.

Of course, Team Rocket might have some hidden tricks, but that wasn't Asahi's problem. He'd leave it to Lance to deal with. After all, he was just a humble International Police officer.

Turning to Brock, Asahi said, "Brock, I heard you're an expert on rocks. I wanted to ask you something."

"What's your question?" Brock was always eager to help.

"It's like this. I have a friend who's really into rare and unique stones. He's coming to Kanto in a few days, and I wanted to prepare a gift for him. Do you know if there are any rare stones around Mt. Moon?"

---

After everything was wrapped up, Asahi politely declined their invitation to visit Pewter City.

Pewter City bordered Viridian City, which was Giovanni's base of operations. Considering how much chaos Asahi had just caused in Mt. Moon, staying in Pewter was too risky.

Bidding Brock and Jenny farewell, Asahi followed the map Brock had marked, making his way through the tunnels.

Along the way, he encountered many wild Pokémon, all of which he left to Dratini and Bagon for training.

Thanks to the past few days of battles and the energy absorbed from the Dragon Crystals, their levels had increased significantly:

[Dratini LV16 → LV22]

[Bagon LV10 → LV17]

At this rate, evolution didn't seem far off.

"So raising pseudo-legendaries isn't that hard after all!"

"Mew!"

Mew playfully zipped around, occasionally darting in front of Dratini or Bagon to tease them, clearly enjoying itself.

"By the way, I forgot to ask earlier—Mew, what are you doing here in Mt. Moon?" Asahi asked.

Logically, Mew should be living in the World Tree, its usual habitat.

"Mew...?"

Hearing Asahi's question, Mew tapped its chin thoughtfully, then gave an unexpected answer:

[I sensed a companion's presence on them and wanted to find it!]

"A companion?"

Asahi froze for a moment, then his expression turned strange.

The "companion" Mew mentioned… could it be Mewtwo?

If he remembered correctly, it was almost time for new trainers like Ash to begin their journeys, which meant Mewtwo's creation was likely imminent.

Could it be that Mew's presence here wasn't because Team Rocket had tracked it down, but because Mew had deliberately revealed itself?

Had Mew lured Team Rocket to draw their attention and then followed them to find Mewtwo?

If that were true, Asahi couldn't help but look at Mew in a new light.

Who would've thought this innocent-looking Pokémon was running a bait-and-switch operation?

"Mew?"

Mew tilted its head, confused by Asahi's strange gaze.

Just as Asahi was about to say something, their path was blocked.

"Clefairy~!"

Two Clefable stepped forward, cutting off their route.

Behind them, a group of Clefairy walked in single file, crossing the tunnel.

"Clefairy?"

Although Clefairy lived in Mt. Moon, it was rare to see such a large group moving together in an orderly line.

The two Clefable guarding the front were clearly wary, showing no intention of letting Asahi pass.

Glancing at the map, Asahi noted that Brock's marked location was just ahead. Now that he'd come this far, there was no way he was turning back.

As he hesitated, debating whether to have Gardevoir teleport them forward, Mew suddenly flew over to the Clefable.

"Mew!"

After circling them a couple of times, Mew seemed to say something. The two Clefable whispered to each other for a moment before reaching a decision.

One of them turned and gestured for Asahi and Mew to follow.

[What did you say to them?] Asahi asked telepathically.

[I told them you're a good person!]

"..."

Caught off guard by Mew's "good person" card, Asahi didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
