Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Am I Mew?

Chapter 21: Am I Mew?

Asahi was confident he had hidden himself well. Logically, he shouldn't have been discovered.

However, it wasn't just Asahi who was baffled; even the Team Rocket Captain, was utterly stunned.

The captain looked down at the device in his hands, then back at the figure ahead.

How could it be? The equipment designed to track Mew had led him to… Hayato?

Where's Mew?

Meanwhile, the Rocket grunts nearby began shouting in confusion.

"Hayato, what are you doing sneaking around over there?"

"Where's Daisuke? Wasn't he guarding the entrance with you?"

"Be careful—this guy Hayato might be up to something!"

Though their chatter was chaotic, there was one consensus: something was definitely wrong with "Hayato."

The captain thought so too, but his mind went further. While listening to the noisy remarks around him, he stared at Asahi and recalled details about Mew from the mission briefing:

Mew can turn invisible and possesses transformative abilities...

Could it be...?

Suddenly, the captain's eyes lit up, and he pointed at Asahi. "I get it! He's Mew in disguise!"

Mew's transformation abilities and the tracking device's clear signal pointing to "Hayato" made the conclusion seem logical.

---

Asahi, who had been preparing for a tough fight, almost stumbled when he heard this.

Asahi: "...Huh? Am I Mew now?"

He wondered if the Rockets had gone insane from obsessing over Mew, leading to some sort of mental breakdown. How on earth did he resemble Mew in any way?

Even though Asahi found this absurd, Team Rocket seemed to believe it.

After all, they trusted their captain's tracker, and if he claimed the person ahead was Mew, it must be true!

The Rocket members quickly spread out, forming a circle to surround Asahi. At the same time, some of them began assembling specialized equipment designed to counter Mew.

Seeing this, Asahi's lips twitched.

He wanted to say something, but after opening and closing his mouth, he decided against it.

Why waste words with these people? Whether they've lost their minds or not, I'll just deal with them first.

With this thought, Asahi released his Gardevoir.

"Gardevoir? Since when does Mew use Poké Balls?"

"You idiot, he's a trainer!"

It finally dawned on the Rockets that the figure before them wasn't Mew but a trainer.

And that shiny Gardevoir—where had they seen it before?

"The Ghostly Ranger, Asahi?!"

As the captain, he recognized Asahi's shiny Gardevoir.

He never imagined the figure before him would be the legendary "Ghostly Ranger." Reflecting on his earlier assumptions, he felt like a complete clown.

Asahi wasn't surprised to be recognized.

His shiny Gardevoir was one of a kind in Kanto—its appearance made his identity obvious.

However, he didn't care much as long as his role as an international police officer remained hidden.

Wiping his face with one hand, Asahi revealed his true appearance. Then, he used telepathy to instruct Gardevoir:

"Gardevoir, use Psychic at full power!"

Asahi firmly believed that criminals didn't deserve mercy.

Directly targeting the trainers themselves was often the most efficient way to solve problems.

At Asahi's command, Gardevoir closed her eyes, crossing her hands over her chest.

Mental energy rippled through the air.

Her body slowly floated upward, the intense psychic power enveloping her. Her white gown billowed as the energy surged.

The Rocket members could feel the overwhelming psychic force emanating from Gardevoir, leaving them pale and trembling.

They had seen Psychic-types before—some even owned them—but this level of power was unimaginable.

"This can't be real… Is that really a Gardevoir?"

Inexperienced Rockets whispered in disbelief.

Those with more experience released their own Pokémon, praying silently for protection.

For Pokémon, the Elite Four-tier was a critical threshold. Crossing it often meant overwhelming power.

Boom!

Psychic energy crashed down.

In an instant, the Rockets felt like their heads had been struck with a hammer.

Those with weaker wills immediately fainted, losing their ability to fight.

Asahi surveyed the scene.

Out of the 19 Rockets, half were already down. Even the Arbok and Weezing used as shields had fainted. Only nine remained standing, though barely—they were pale and unsteady.

Among them, the only one maintaining composure was the captain.

His Crobat had used Dark Pulse at the last moment to shield him from Gardevoir's psychic onslaught.

Captain glanced at his fallen comrades, his expression grim.

"Asahi, you've resigned from the League. Do you still have to oppose Team Rocket?"

Asahi tossed a Quick Ball in his hand, smirking mockingly. "What nonsense are you spouting? What does my resignation have to do with taking you Rockets down?"

"Fine. Team Rocket will remember this!"

The captain began retreating, clearly outmatched.

But as he moved back—

Whoosh!

A Weezing, glowing ominously, darted out of the shadows, emitting terrifying energy.

"Die! Explosion!"

The captain's voice turned into a desperate roar as he triggered the self-destruction of his main Pokémon.

Boom!

The explosion engulfed Asahi and Gardevoir, sending shockwaves that caused reinforced cave walls to collapse.

Large boulders fell, burying the spot where Asahi had been standing.

The captain stared intently at the rubble.

"Did that finish him?"
