Chapter 168: Chapter 168: Regirock
Chapter 168: Regirock
"Re...gi...Re...gi..."
A mechanical voice echoed. The figure before them was entirely composed of rock, its face dotted with faint glowing spots. Its shoulders were formed from earthy-colored boulders, and its massive fists were particularly striking.
Regirock.
"Re...gi! Re...gi!"

The rock-like golem fixed its gaze on Hikaru, who had just regained his senses, its hands slowly coming together.
A massive yellow beam began to gather between its palms, radiating with terrifying intensity.
This energy was no weaker than the Hyper Beam Hikaru had just witnessed through the Time Flower's projection.
There was no doubt—if even a fraction of this attack hit him, Hikaru would be reduced to nothing but ash.
Latias reacted immediately. She grabbed Hikaru and Lucario and ascended swiftly, activating Invisibility at the same time.
Without a target in sight, Regirock stood still for a moment, scanning its surroundings in confusion. After a brief pause, it slowly turned and began walking deeper into the area.
The glow of its charging attack gradually faded as it moved away.
---
"Holy... it's actually Regirock?"
Perched on Latias's back, Hikaru blurted out in shock.
Anyone ambushed like that would feel rattled.
A Level 78 Regirock—thankfully, it was a Regirock.
Despite its immense power, its speed was agonizingly slow, even for a Pokémon at the Champion level.
"Phew... Thanks, Lucario. Thanks, Latias."
Hikaru patted Lucario's head, feeling a surge of relief.
Bringing Lucario along had been an absolutely correct decision.
From the moment he entered the World Tree, Hikaru noticed something peculiar: most of his abilities were significantly suppressed.
However, Lucario's Aura remained unaffected.
Clearly, the World Tree had an innate aversion to humans.
"Luca!" (So strong!)
Lucario's eyes gleamed with battle intent as it watched the retreating figure of Regirock.
"That was close..."
Latias sighed with lingering fear.
If Hikaru had been struck, she would never forgive herself.
"It's okay. No harm done," Hikaru reassured her.
Deep inside, he also knew he still had life-saving tools, so he hadn't been overly reckless.
Shaking off the tension, Hikaru laid out their next steps.
"Latias, follow it—but make sure it doesn't notice us. Lucario, keep an eye out for any more flowers like the one from before."
"Understood!"
Latias and Lucario both nodded gravely.
Having come this far, Hikaru wasn't about to back out, no matter how dangerous the path ahead seemed.
---
Regirock's slow pace made it relatively easy for Latias to follow without drawing attention.
As they trailed behind, Lucario managed to sense the presence of several more Time Flowers along the way.
Hikaru mentally noted their locations.
Honestly, he was curious about what other moments the Time Flowers had recorded.
Before long, Regirock arrived at the entrance of a tunnel.
Hikaru observed quietly as it entered.
Once inside, he was struck by how the structure resembled blood vessels within a body.
The number of glowing crystals lining the walls increased significantly.
However, many of these crystals appeared in far worse condition than the ones outside.
The orange-yellow glow had almost entirely overtaken their surfaces, forming a sickly coating that seemed to drain the crystals of their vitality.
Within the crystals, viscous, liquid-like substances sluggishly swirled.
Eventually, they emerged from the tunnel into an open chamber.
The sight that greeted Hikaru made his heart skip a beat.
---
Regice—the Ice Golem.
Registeel—the Steel Golem.
The two legendary titans stood alongside Regirock, forming a towering trio. Each was over three to four meters tall, resembling small mountains.
---
Meanwhile, in Qian Province
At the Pokémon League sub-division in Qian Province, a room resembling an energy monitoring center buzzed with activity.
A large satellite map of the Qinling Mountains filled the central screen, though the area was shrouded in heavy mist, making only the general outline visible.
Suddenly, the screen flashed with a vivid red alarm.
Everyone in the room snapped to attention. One of the technicians quickly pressed a button on the console before them.
---
Red Energy Level Alert.
This indicated the presence of a battle involving Pokémon at or above the Champion Level.
Such encounters could wreak havoc on the surrounding ecosystem.
If left unchecked, the devastation could lead to the collapse of an entire region.
The alarm summoned the Qian Province League President—a middle-aged man clad in a sleek silver uniform.
His expression turned grave as he observed the screen.
The red alert covered an area roughly the size of a human fist on the map.
To put this into perspective:
The Qinling Mountains were vast, and even this "small" area represented a zone with a radius of several dozen kilometers.
Moreover, the affected area was still expanding.
Could this be more than just a battle between two Champion-level Pokémon?
While the League tried to record every wild Champion-level Pokémon, such efforts were inherently incomplete—especially in remote, wild regions where exploration costs were exorbitant.
The League President prepared to dispatch the nearest Champion-level trainer to handle the crisis.
However, before he could give the order, a chilling voice echoed through the room.
"Ke-ke-ke-ke…"
The lights began to flicker erratically as the temperature in the room plummeted.
Despite the sweltering heat of August, a shiver ran down everyone's spines.
At the doorway stood a stylishly dressed older woman, exuding an otherworldly presence.
She wore a black dress resembling a ceremonial robe, her serene face contrasting sharply with the eerie aura around her.
This was Granny, the Elite Four-level Ghost-type Gym Leader of the Haunted Mansion Gym in Qian Province.
At her side floated a mischievous Gengar, its crimson tongue licking the air playfully as it surveyed the room.
The temperature drop was clearly its doing.
"Enough, Gengar. Behave," Granny chided gently.
Gengar laughed gleefully before retreating into Granny's shadow.
Gengar was a playful species by nature, and even as a Champion-level Pokémon, this one retained its mischievous streak.
Relieved to see her, the League President greeted her respectfully.
"Granny, I'm afraid we'll need to trouble you again. Just a few days ago, investigators captured a Raticate that had been invading human settlements. Upon investigation, it seems that the Qinling Mountains have become increasingly unstable lately."
"No trouble at all. Since it's within my jurisdiction, I'll handle it…" Granny replied warmly, nodding her understanding.
A deep male voice interjected, "Count me in as well…"
To be continued...
