Chapter 412: Side Chapter : The Talent show
It was a pristine evening on the beach, the sun setting low, painting the sky in fiery oranges and pinks. Ash's Pokémon were buzzing with excitement.
Pikachu stood center stage on a makeshift platform made of driftwood and palm fronds, acting as both the show's host and a performer.
Tonight, Ash's team wasn't just a group of tough battlers—they were putting on a talent show, mostly to entertain baby Lapras, who clapped her little flippers with delight.
With Pikachu's electrifying energy, the show began. "Pika-PIKA!" ("Welcome, everyone!")
---
Pikachu started the show by showing off its favorite talent—mimicry. With a cheeky smile, the little yellow mouse scampered center stage, puffed up its cheeks, and squeaked,
"Pikaaa-RAAAAAH!" In perfectly exaggerated dramatic tones, it imitated a fierce roar, exactly like Gyarados. Lapras squealed in laughter.
It didn't stop there. Pikachu flared its cheeks and dragged its tiny feet, mimicking Snorlax, falling backward onto a pile of seaweed in mock slumber.
It added a massive snore with a satisfyingly dopey "Pikaaaaa-zorrrrr." Ash's real Snorlax flinched from his nearby nap, grunted, and waved a lazy hand as if to say, "Yeah, yeah, nailed it."
Then Pikachu went on to copy Jigglypuff—puffing its cheeks adorably round and pretending to sing, only to draw a laugh from Venusaur when it "fainted" dramatically from "falling asleep" itself.
Lastly, Pikachu did a spot-on imitation of Charmander, making little flame gestures by sparking its cheeks while tiptoeing and wiggling its tail like the smallest Charizard.
Pikachu bowed at the end, taking pride in bringing so many laughs—except for Charizard, who rolled his eyes and muttered, "Charrr" ("Amateur"), preparing for his act.
---
Charizard stomped onto the stage confidently, no-frills about his entrance, puffing his chest and blowing a small stream of flames overhead for dramatic effect.
On a makeshift firepit, he had begun roasting "actual food"—a hearty pile of vegetables, coconuts, and even a makeshift hamburger he managed to assemble from the camp ingredients Ash left lying around.
He roasted them perfectly, sending an enticing aroma through the group.
But then the real roast began.
Turning first toward his fellow evolved trio, he pointed a shiny claw at Blastoise.
"Hey, nice sunglasses, Blastoise. I guess they're vintage. Back when you were a Squirtle, those were "cool." Now, looking at you, they're… a little "tight," don't you think? I'm guessing your shell isn't the only thing that expanded!"
He barked out a laugh, and Blastoise scrunched his face as the others chuckled.
Then Charizard turned to Venusaur. "Ah, Venusaur. Big guy, huh? That flower on your back is pretty impressive. You've got your own ecosystem happening up there! I think I spotted a Wingull trying to set up a nest during lunch."
Venusaur gave a mock glare but smirked, muttering, "Saaaauuuurrr."
Charizard glanced toward Snorlax. "And you, Snorlax—oh wait, almost didn't see you there, doing what you do best."
He motioned with exaggerated flourish toward the sleeping Pokémon, then crouched in mock confusion.
"Wait, is he participating, or is he the venue? Maybe it's both, because there's no "tent big enough" to cover him."
Snorlax, however, wasn't offended. More importantly, he had ""smelled food."" As Charizard dramatically flipped his burger and prepared to share his masterpiece, Snorlax waddled onto the stage with surprising speed, grabbed the food mid-air, and stuffed it into his mouth before anyone could react.
"SNORRRR!" ("Hero of the day!") Snorlax cheered as he bolted toward the ocean, practically galloping like a victorious knight.
The audience erupted in laughter while Charizard threw up his claw in defeat. "CHAR! CHAR-ZAAAAARD!" ("Hey, I worked hard on that!")
---
Next on stage was Blastoise, who adjusted his still-functional Squirtle Squad sunglasses perched on his now-massive face.
"Blas! Blas-toise!" ("Who said I'm too big to dance?") The large tank of a turtle shuffled into position and struck the classic Squirtle pose, flicking his wrist in a cheeky wink.
The upbeat rhythm of beach drums (courtesy of Pikachu using coconuts and Lapras humming a tune) began, and Blastoise showed off the slick dance moves he'd learned while part of the Squirtle Squad.
He spun on one foot, twirled his arms, even did a slide-spin combo before gearing up for a "jump step".
However, as he leaped upward to finish his final move, his newly evolved weight caught him off guard.
He landed with a loud "THUD," completely shaking the ground and accidentally dousing himself with his own water cannons from the impact.
Everyone burst into laughter, even Blastoise himself. "Blahaaas!" he chuckled, shaking water droplets off his cannons and bowing.
---
Venusaur lumbered up next and motioned for calm with a serene "Saaaaaur." Everyone fell silent as he began carefully collecting items from the beach—some coconut halves, seashells, a hollow log, and even a few pebbles.
Using his vines, massive feet, and a little creative thinking, Venusaur turned the items into makeshift instruments.
He struck the coconut shells together like castanets and rolled a vine across the hollow log to make a low, resonant hum.
Pebbles clicking together created the sound of delicate sticks, and he even used his massive flower petals as wind catchers to produce faint, flute-like whistles.
The resulting melody was unexpectedly beautiful, a rhythmic symphony capturing the sounds of nature, the ocean, and the serene beach setting.
The Pokémon were mesmerized. Even Charizard, typically too proud for such soft performances, clapped one wing in admiration. "Not bad, Big Flower," he said with a grin.
---
Finally, baby Lapras shyly waddled to the front of the stage. Pikachu patted her encouragingly on the head.
"Pika pika! (You've got this!)" She nodded and took a deep breath before sailing into the shallow waters near the stage.
Closing her eyes, Lapras lifted her head and unleashed a dazzling "Ice Beam". The water froze in midair as she painted intricate arcs of frost, weaving together her masterpiece.
She used her beam to sculpt a miniature ice replica of Ash's Pokémon team—Charizard towering in his usual dramatic pose, Blastoise with his sunglasses, Venusaur radiating pride from his flower, Snorlax snoozing sprawled out, Pikachu mid-jump with sparks on its cheeks, and herself nestled happily among them.
The final piece glittered under the setting sun, perfection in frozen form. Everyone erupted into cheers, even Charizard, who muttered, "Hmm. She's got talent."
---
The show ended with all the Pokémon taking the stage together, laughing, bickering, and playfully shoving each other while Snorlax dragged in a pile of food he'd somehow swiped from who-knows-where.
Lapras clapped her flippers and let out a joyful cry, feeling fully part of the goofy, lovable team.
