With the new companion joining the team, Liam decided to delay his Gym challenge.

Sneasel, an Ice and Dark-type Pokémon, had a damage advantage against Ground-type Pokémon, making it the key player in the upcoming battle.

Liam wanted to spend some time getting familiar with Sneasel first.

After waking up, washing up, and having breakfast, Liam informed Nurse Joy at the Pokémon Center that he'd be staying an additional day. He then shouldered his backpack and headed out, stopping at a nearby park's open field.

"Alright! Training starts today! Everyone, come out!" The sunny weather put Liam in a good mood as he cheered and tossed out three PokeBalls. Gible, Arbok, and Sneasel emerged in sequence.

Liam then pulled Nidorino out from his bag, standing confidently with his hands on his hips as he surveyed his team with satisfaction.

"Nido!"

As soon as Nidorino appeared, it enthusiastically pounced on Liam, knocking him over in an affectionate display.

"Hahaha! Stop licking, that tickles! Enough already…" After much effort, Liam managed to push Nidorino off. Turning to Arbok and Sneasel, who were glaring at each other, he spoke up.

"Arbok, this is our new companion, Sneasel. Everyone, come say hello. From now on, we're all friends, so take care of each other."

Arbok snorted and looked away, and Sneasel, with a disdainful glance, did the same. It ignored the greetings from Nidorino and Gible, maintaining a cold and aloof demeanor that left Liam scratching his head in frustration.

Forcing a smile, he continued.

"Today, we'll first welcome our new companion, and then we'll do some battle training. Tomorrow is our Gym challenge. I want Gible and Sneasel to be our main fighters since their types counter this Gym, but Arbok and Nidorino might still get opportunities. So, everyone, take today's training seriously and show the Gym Leader what you're made of. Got it?"

"Chaar..."

"Sneasel..."

Arbok and Sneasel appeared uninterested, clearly lacking enthusiasm.

"Gible!"

"Nido!"

On the other hand, Gible and Nidorino were already raring to go, eagerly preparing for the training ahead.

Liam sighed, glancing at Arbok and Sneasel. While he wasn't yet familiar with Sneasel's personality, he knew Arbok's temperament very well—it wouldn't cooperate easily.

"Ahem. If today's training satisfies me, I'll reward you all with a bottle of Moomoo Milk."

"Chaarbok!"

At this, Arbok immediately perked up, turning to Liam with a look of excitement. Nearby, Sneasel cast a puzzled glance at Arbok, unsure why it had suddenly become so motivated.

"Alright! We'll pair off for training! Gible versus Nidorino, and Sneasel versus Arbok. Remember, stop when necessary! Use any moves you like. Begin!"

"Gible!"

"Nido!"

Gible and Nidorino immediately clashed head-on, testing their strength. The result was evident—despite their best efforts, Nidorino's slightly larger size gave it the advantage. After the initial collision, Nidorino stood firm while Gible stumbled back a few steps, eyes blazing with determination.

A yellow-brown glow enveloped Gible as it launched a Tackle attack, its round body shooting forward like a cannonball.

Nidorino countered without hesitation, its horn glowing as it charged forward, its battle instincts ignited.

On the other side, Sneasel and Arbok stood still, locked in a tense standoff. While one pair was already in an intense clash, this duo exuded an eerie calm as they awaited the perfect opportunity to strike.

Liam watched with a grin before discreetly activating his scanning device to examine Sneasel.

Liam's eyes sparkled with joy. He had assumed Sneasel was of average quality, judging by its earlier battles. However, the device revealed its true potential, held back only by neglect under its previous owner.

Excited, Liam realized he had struck gold again. Moreover, Sneasel had already learned Metal Claw, a move highly effective against Rock-types, bolstering Liam's confidence for the Pewter Gym challenge.

"Charbok!"

Just then, Arbok, unable to hold back, launched a rain of Poison Sting needles. Calm and composed, Sneasel dodged with a burst of speed, disappearing from sight before reappearing beneath Arbok.

Its claws shimmered metallic as it struck upward.

However, Arbok wasn't caught off guard. Drawing on past battles, it quickly unleashed an Acid Spray at its feet. The splatter burned both Pokémon, forcing Sneasel to retreat with a pained cry.

Unfazed, Arbok shook off the acid and counterattacked with Fire Fang, lunging toward Sneasel, which barely evaded.

Liam observed thoughtfully. "Arbok's Acid Spray is new. It must've trained hard recently. Sneasel's speed is incredible, especially after using Agility. But its adaptability needs work."

He called out, "Sneasel, focus on your speed! Circle around and attack from behind or the side!"

Taking his advice, Sneasel growled and vanished in a blur, reappearing behind Arbok to strike with its claws. Yet, Liam shook his head, sensing the mistake.

As expected, Arbok's tail whipped out, coiling tightly around Sneasel and immobilizing it. Flames erupted from its jaws as it prepared a devastating Fire Fang.

The battle was already over.
