"Otherwise, just wait and sleep in the orchard."

After saying the last sentence, Evan turned around and left.

When Gardevoir and the other Pokémon saw this scene, they immediately looked at each other.

"Pi...kachu?"

What to do?

Gardevoir thought for a moment and quickly made a decision.

"Let's go," it said firmly.

"Now that the master knows, there's no need to be cautious anymore. The master said he won't participate this year, so he won't. Everything in the gym is treated as training. Besides, it's already too late this year," Gardevoir added, sounding a little discouraged.

It would have been nice if Pikachu and the others were stronger. If that were the case, maybe they could achieve their goal this year.

Should they go out and look for wild Pokémon?

If that doesn't work, should they try to bring back a mythical Pokémon?

Well... Gardevoir remembered a mysterious trainer in the forest and couldn't help but fall into thought.

Upon seeing this, Gallade directly took Evan's certificate from Pikachu and Charmeleon, then silently put away the certificate and ID card. It then retrieved a Poké Ball and addressed the other Pokémon.

"Let's go," Gallade said.

"Since the master has spoken, let's consider the gym challenge as training. What if... no, forget it. There are no 'ifs.' If we can advance to the championship before the national competition, maybe the master will participate. But we can't. It's too difficult at this stage."

Gallade knew how challenging it would be.

When the other Pokémon heard this, they didn't question it. They all nodded before Gallade returned them to their Poké Balls. After safely placing the Poké Balls, Gallade climbed onto Pidgeot's back and set off toward the next gym city.

As for the gym's location, they had already figured it out. It was in another direction from Water City—Rock City, a place surrounded by rocky terrain and home to many Ground- and Rock-type Pokémon.

Rock was also known for its ores, with some Trainers even claiming that pseudo-legendary Pokémon like Tyranitar and Garchomp resided there. It was a wealthy city where many Trainers searched for rare treasures. Reaching it by vehicle would take over an hour, but Gallade expected to spend the journey riding on Pidgeot's back.

Watching them leave, Evan sighed helplessly.

"These guys! I bet they'll give me a scare," he muttered.

"Who knows what's going to happen next. A lazy trainer doesn't go out but lets his Pokémon collect Gym Badges instead?"

"Emm..."

Evan realized that if someone captured this on camera, it would cause quite a stir. But he was too indifferent to dwell on it.

"Let them do whatever they want," Evan said.

"Getting a Gym Badge isn't easy. The first and second might not be too much trouble, but the third one? That's where the challenge begins. They'll have to face elite or near-elite Pokémon, and if they aren't strong enough, no one's going to hand over a badge. I just hope Pidgeot can make a breakthrough before coming back. If it doesn't reach quasi-elite level this time, it'll face my wrath!"

With that thought, Evan picked up some items and headed downstairs, preparing for a trip to the store.

The item in Evan's hand was a formula for crafting low-level energy cubes.

It was part of his plan to teach Aunt Jenn and the others.

After all, they couldn't focus on making just one kind of energy cube, could they? Energy cubes meant to simply fill Pokémon's bellies were easy to make, but they were too basic. Aunt Jenn and her team had already produced enough to supply the breeding house. If they included the contributions from their spouses, there would definitely be an excess.

To address this, Evan gave them recipes for other low-level energy cubes to produce. These would then be sold in bulk at the store, earning a commission for the team. Though the income might not be significant, it was better than part-time work for them.

While Evan was busy teaching the group how to make the cubes, Gallade and the others arrived at the Rock Gym in Rock City.

Following their usual approach, Gallade ensured Pidgeot stayed out of sight before using Teleport to enter the city. However, Gallade didn't know the gym's exact location. It had to ask around, drawing curious looks from passersby.

Some mistook Gallade for a wild Pokémon, but the small satchel it carried quickly dispelled such notions. Realizing it was trained, no one attempted to capture it. If this had happened in a region where criminal organizations were active, Gallade might have faced ambushes. Fortunately, this was the China.

Gallade eventually reached the Rock Gym, which bustled with activity. This gym was livelier than the Water gym it had visited earlier, with more Trainers coming and going.

After observing for a moment, Gallade confidently walked in.

Its presence instantly caused a stir among the Trainers inside.

"I…what!?"

"What's with that Gallade?"

"Wait—can Pokémon become Trainers now?"

"Do they have to be this competitive? Even Pokémon are snatching our business?"

Ignoring the bewildered humans, Gallade strode to the front desk. It placed Evan's ID card and Trainer certificate on the counter, catching the receptionist's attention.

Using telepathy, it said, "Register! I'm here on behalf of my master."

The receptionist froze in shock. Seeing this, Gallade continued, "The last person who gave me this look already registered me and provided a Badge box. I'm not breaking any rules, and there's no official requirement that the Trainer must be present during the challenge. So, please register me."

Its words snapped the receptionist out of her daze. She picked up the ID card and certificate, quickly verifying them in the system.

Entering Evan's ID number, she soon found a record of his Water gym battle and identity details. Everything checked out.

Although still perplexed, the receptionist processed Gallade's registration. "There are three Trainers ahead of you," she explained. "When it's your turn, the Gym Leader will call your master's name. Please wait inside quietly."

Returning Evan's ID card and certificate, she nodded toward Gallade.

Gallade accepted the items, gave a polite nod, and made its way to the waiting area inside the gym.
