Pokemon: Ghostbound

Chapter 90: Encirclement

"Therefore, I Believe we must find a way to capture this Gengar as soon as possible and figure out how to save him," Tyson stated firmly.

"Otherwise, if this continues, not only will the residents of the town be endangered, but this Gengar, prone to violence, may harm more innocent people."

After reviewing the information in the file, Tyson explained Gengar's growing threat to Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny.

Nurse Joy nodded solemnly; the evidence was clear. For the safety of the town, Officer Jenny resolved to apprehend Gengar immediately.

However, she understood the gravity of the situation. If Gengar became fully violent, neither she nor Nurse Joy would have the strength to subdue it alone. Officer Jenny's eyes lit up with determination as she formed a plan.

"I understand. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Tyson. Without your insight, more lives might have been at risk," Jenny said sincerely before turning serious. "Tyson, as a League Trainer, I am officially requesting your cooperation in this operation. Are you willing to assist us?"

"Of course! It's my duty as a trainer," Tyson replied without hesitation.

While his answer seemed noble, Tyson's motivations ran deeper. He wanted to witness the full extent of power a ghost-type Pokémon could achieve through such a dangerous transformation. Additionally, he knew this event would likely draw the Pokémon League's attention. Combined with his recent tournament victory and Charizard's mastery of a top-tier Fire-type move, this was another opportunity to make a name for himself. That recognition could serve as a stepping stone for his future plans.

"Thank you," Jenny said, visibly relieved. "To ensure everyone's safety, we'll conduct the operation tonight. Once Gengar is subdued, I'll hand the matter over to the League."

"No problem. I'll remain at the Pokémon Center and stay on standby. Just call if you need me."

Jenny appreciated Tyson's proactive stance. She, Nurse Joy, and Tyson then discussed the details of the operation, preparing to act after sundown.

As night fell, Gengar crept toward the town once again.

Its body felt hollow, and an insatiable hunger gnawed at its core. Scaring people had once been a source of mischief and delight for Gengar. Now, it sought more than fright—it craved the life force it absorbed when others screamed in terror. That taste of vitality had turned its playful antics into dangerous predation.

Hovering just outside the Pokémon Center, Gengar glared at the building. Memories of its previous defeat burned in its mind, especially its humiliation at the hands of the trainer with the Charizard. Revenge was tempting, but its hunger came first.

Gengar chose a nearby house and began its hunt. The screams of frightened residents echoed in the night. It wasn't long before Officer Jenny was alerted and quickly relayed the news to Nurse Joy and Tyson.

By the time Gengar emerged from its third target, Officer Jenny and her Arcanine arrived on the scene.

"Arcanine, Flamethrower!" she commanded.

A torrent of flames surged toward Gengar, who instinctively turned invisible to avoid the attack. However, before it could vanish completely, Charizard's roar split the night.

"Charizard, Flamethrower!"

With flames of unmatched intensity, Charizard enveloped Gengar in a fiery blaze, forcing the ghostly Pokémon to reappear. Nurse Joy and Tyson joined the fray.

"Blissey, use Dazzling Gleam!" Joy called.

"Sylveon, alternate Helping Hand and Yawn!" Tyson instructed.

As the battle raged, Gengar's frustration boiled over. Its eyes glowed an ominous red as it summoned a demonic shadow, a manifestation of its life force pushed to the brink. Though still classified as an elite-level Pokémon, Gengar's raw power now far surpassed that of ordinary trainers' Pokémon.

Gengar's claws glowed with dark energy as it lunged for Charizard.

"Charizard, Soar Up and counter with Blast Burn! Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny, keep up the pressure!" Tyson commanded.

Charizard soared high, releasing a devastating wave of fire. With Helping Hand enhancing the attack, its sheer heat forced Gengar back. Arcanine and Blissey followed up with coordinated attacks, targeting Gengar's shadowy aura. However, despite the barrage, Gengar continued to grow stronger, its rage consuming its last shred of rationality.

Tyson noticed the shift. Gengar was overloading itself, drawing on unsustainable power that would eventually leave it defenseless. But the question remained: could they hold out long enough?
