Chapter 40: Capturing the Giant Dragonite (1)

Brock saw Dr. Bill muttering happily to himself. He then asked curiously, "Dr. Bill, who's arrived? You seem so happy."

Hearing Brock, Dr. Bill walked over beside him, grabbed Brock's hand, and answered Brock's question with a smile, "Brock! When you first arrived, didn't you ask me why I was staying here? And what kind of Pokémon I was researching?"

Seeing Dr. Bill holding his hand, Brock forcefully pulled his hand away. He then said, "We asked you why you were staying here, and your answer was that you were researching what kind of Pokémon that giant silhouette belonged to! Could this sound be coming from that giant shadow?" After speaking, Brock thought to himself, There's no way I'm letting you hold my hand! I'm not gay!

Seeing Brock pull his hand away, Dr. Bill's face flushed, and he said awkwardly, "Brock... Yes, that's right! Come with me, everyone! Let's all see what kind of Pokémon that giant silhouette is!" After speaking, Dr. Bill produced a tape recorder from somewhere. He then walked out of the lighthouse. Seeing Dr. Bill leave the lighthouse, Brock and the others followed him.

Now, Brock, Ash, Misty, Daisy, Melanie, and Dr. Bill went out of the lighthouse and came to the area behind it, right at the edge of the cliff. Below the cliff lay the ocean. Night had fallen, and the moonlight shone down onto the sea surface.

Brock's group gazed across the sea. They saw a thick fog hanging over the water. Just then, the sound came again. Hearing the sound, Dr. Bill said happily, "That's right! That's the sound! I need to lure it over here!"

After speaking, Dr. Bill turned on the tape recorder he had brought. A sound then emitted from the recorder, transmitting across the sea. Hearing the sound from the recorder, the same sound they'd heard earlier came back from across the ocean. This time, the sound echoed repeatedly from the sea.

Hearing the sound coming back from the other side, Brock looked at Dr. Bill's tape recorder. He then pointed at the recorder and asked, "Dr. Bill, what is that sound? Why does the other side respond repeatedly after hearing the sound from your recorder?"

Hearing Brock, Dr. Bill answered proudly, "Brock, this is the result of my many years of work! I recorded the sound coming from the other side, then I translated it, and then I formulated a response. So the sound my recorder is emitting is actually answering the sound coming from across the sea!"

Ash, who was nearby, heard Dr. Bill and asked, "Dr. Bill, then could you translate those two sounds for me?"

Dr. Bill replied, "Of course! I interpret the sound coming from across the sea as meaning 'I want to meet you.' And the sound my recorder is emitting can be understood as 'I want to meet you too.'"

After hearing Dr. Bill's explanation, Ash asked curiously, "Then are you going to catch that giant Pokémon?"

Hearing Ash, Dr. Bill looked out across the sea, then said to Ash, "Why would I catch it? I've stayed here all these years just to clearly see its appearance, to see what kind of Pokémon it is. Once I see it clearly, I'll be perfectly satisfied."

Hearing Dr. Bill, Ash thought for a moment, then also gazed out across the sea. Just then, the sound slowly drifted closer from across the water, getting nearer and nearer. Brock and the others all focused their attention across the sea. They saw a giant shadow emerging, and that shadow was getting closer and closer to them.

Witnessing this, Dr. Bill looked excitedly towards the sea, thinking, I can finally see its true form clearly!

Meanwhile, Brock saw the giant shadow getting closer and closer. At first glance, it resembled a huge Dragonite! Brock thought, The giant Dragonite the system wants me to capture... it couldn't be this one, could it?! It's way too big! How am I supposed to catch it? I can't beat it in a fight... As for scheming... I don't even know how to scheme against it! Sigh! Please don't let it be Dragonite! Please don't be Dragonite! I really don't want to catch this one; it's just too enormous! Brock muttered this while nervously peeking at the giant shadow.

After a short while, the giant shadow drew nearer and nearer to Brock and the group. By now, they could clearly see the giant shadow. Yes! The giant shadow was indeed a Dragonite!

Seeing the giant shadow was truly a Dragonite, Brock sighed and muttered, "Sigh! How am I supposed to catch such a huge Dragonite?! I can't beat it, and I don't have a Master Ball... A Master Ball!" Finishing his mutter, Brock entered his mindscape. He saw Bell standing there blankly, then went over and asked, "Bell! Can I buy a Master Ball with my current points?"

Hearing Brock, Bell replied, "Host, your current points are not enough to buy a Master Ball."

Hearing Bell's answer, Brock asked, "Bell, just tell me, how many more points do I need to buy a Master Ball?"

Bell answered Brock, "Host, you need 500 more points to buy a Master Ball. As soon as you complete the mission 'Capture the giant Dragonite', you will be able to afford a Master Ball."

Hearing Bell, Brock retorted, "Thanks for stating the obvious! If I could complete the 'Capture the giant Dragonite' mission, I wouldn't have come in here in the first place! Goodbye!" Brock finished speaking and exited his mindscape, seeing the giant Dragonite drawing ever closer.

Meanwhile, the giant Dragonite also saw the figures ahead and realized there were none of its own kind. It turned around to leave.

Seeing the giant Dragonite about to leave, Brock stepped forward and shouted loudly, "Dragonite! I'm going to capture you! Battle me!"

After shouting, Brock thought, The mission is right in front of me! Hiding there in fear... it's better to take the initiative! If I lose, I lose. That's better than being afraid of the giant Dragonite! After thinking this through, Brock's spirit became much tougher, although he didn't notice the change himself.

The Dragonite, which had turned to leave, heard Brock's voice. It turned back around and started walking towards Brock's group.

Hearing Brock's challenge, Melanie worriedly said to Brock, "Brock! Are you crazy?! Battling such a huge Pokémon! Hurry up and run! We can't possibly win!"

Daisy, nearby, also chimed in, "Brock, Melanie's right! Come back quickly! Let's all run away together! We can't beat such a huge Dragonite!"

But hearing Melanie and Daisy, Brock didn't turn back to escape with Ash and the others! Brock watched the giant Dragonite slowly walk towards him. He released all his Pokémon, preparing to face the battle. Brock thought, Only the weak avoid battles! The strong should be fearless! Always charge forward!
