Chapter 36: Giant Dragonite

"Misty! Melanie! Daisy! What are you doing lying on the beach?!" Ash asked, looking at the three of them lying on the sand.

Hearing Ash, Misty, Daisy, and Melanie looked over at Ash and Brock, then stood up from the beach.

"Ash, even if I told you, you wouldn't get it! We're sunbathing! Understand?" Misty replied after standing up.

Hearing Ash and Misty's exchange, Brock said, "Ash, Misty, Melanie, Daisy, I see it's getting late. We should find a place to have dinner!"

Hearing Brock, everyone replied in unison, "Okay!"

So, Brock and the group started looking for a place to make dinner. Suddenly, Pikachu started pointing in one direction with its finger, crying out, "Pika~ Pika~!"

Brock saw Pikachu pointing and calling out but couldn't understand what it was saying, so he called out behind him, "Meowth!"

Hearing Brock, Meowth replied, "Got it!" then walked over in front of Pikachu and conversed with it. After a minute, Meowth walked back beside Brock and said, "Brock! Pikachu said, 'There's a lighthouse not far ahead!'"

Hearing Meowth's translation, the group looked together towards the distance. Far ahead, there was a cliff, and atop the cliff stood a lighthouse. The lighthouse's lamp was flashing, illuminating the way forward for others.

"Wow, there really is a lighthouse! Let's go ask to stay overnight! That way, we won't have to sleep on the ground! Sleeping on the ground is too hard!" Misty complained from the side.

"Misty, stop complaining. You've slept on the ground for several months already; are you still afraid of the ground being hard? Let's hurry up and go to the lighthouse!" Brock said from the side. After speaking, he started walking towards the lighthouse with Ash, Daisy, and Melanie.

Hearing Brock's words, Misty only just reacted when she saw Brock and the others had already walked some distance ahead. She then started running after them, shouting, "Brock! Ash! Sister Daisy! Sister Melanie! Wait for me!"

After a little while, Brock's group arrived at the lighthouse door. Brock ran up, knocked on the door, and called inside, "Hello! Is anyone in there?"

Soon after, a voice came from inside, "Who is it?! The door's unlocked! Just come in yourselves!"

Hearing the voice from inside, Brock and the group pushed open the main door, only to find pitch blackness inside.

Seeing how dark it was inside, Brock and the others felt a bit scared and huddled together, slowly walking further in. After a short while, they reached the main interior of the lighthouse. Brock noticed there was no one visible and said nervously, his legs trembling, "Hello? We were hoping to stay overnight..."

Brock had barely finished speaking when the voice came again, "Could you trouble yourselves to press the switch for me? Let me out!"

Hearing this, the group became even more frightened. Brock plucked up his courage and asked, "Where are you?! Why can't I see you?"

Just as Brock finished asking, the voice replied, "Oh, right! I haven't turned on the lights yet! Could you trouble yourselves to flip the light switch on the wall? Then you'll be able to see me. Sorry for scaring you!"

Hearing the voice, Brock found the light switch on a nearby wall. After Brock flipped the switch, lights turned on all around, illuminating every corner of the lighthouse.

And right before Brock and the others appeared a Kabuto sitting on a chair. The same voice they'd heard before came from inside the Kabuto costume, "Could you trouble yourselves to press the switch here on my right-hand side?"

Hearing this, Brock walked forward, flipped the indicated switch, and the Kabuto costume came apart. A young man with green hair emerged. Seeing it was a person inside, Brock was no longer afraid. He said to the young man, "Hello! My name is Brock. We were hoping to stay overnight. Who are you?"

Hearing Brock, the young man replied, "I am Dr. Bill. Also... do you guys know how to cook?"

Hearing Dr. Bill, Brock replied simply, "Yes."

Hearing Brock's affirmative, Dr. Bill said bluntly, "In that case, go make dinner for me!"

Hearing Dr. Bill, Brock's face darkened, and he thought, This Dr. Bill is way too shameless! We're asking to stay overnight, which makes us his guests! What kind of host makes their guests cook?! Sigh... fine. We have to cook anyway, making an extra portion isn't a big deal.

Having decided this, Brock called Melanie over to make dinner together. Half an hour later, Brock and Melanie had finished preparing dinner. Then everyone started eating.

Halfway through dinner, Brock asked Dr. Bill curiously, "Dr. Bill, what kind of Pokémon are you planning to research here at this lighthouse?"

Hearing Brock's question, Dr. Bill stopped eating. He then answered proudly, "Speaking of what Pokémon I'm researching... I'll let you in on a secret! Several years ago, I saw a giant shadow right here. And from that giant shadow came the cry of a Pokémon! So I stayed here, wanting to figure out just what kind of Pokémon that giant shadow belongs to."

After hearing Dr. Bill's words, a "Ding!" sounded in Brock's mind. So, Brock decided to enter his mindscape to see if a mission had appeared. Entering his mindscape, Brock saw Bell still standing there blankly. He then opened the function menu himself to check.

Brock looked at the mission list and saw a new mission had indeed appeared:

Capture the giant Dragonite.

Reward: 500 Points.

After reading this mission, Brock wondered where the giant Dragonite was. According to the plot of the anime from my previous life, the giant Dragonite should appear around now! But even if that giant Dragonite shows up, how am I supposed to capture it?! My four Pokémon are still very weak right now; defeating a giant Dragonite is impossible... I need to think about what to do...

"Brock, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Melanie asked with concern, looking at the spacing-out Brock.

Startled awake by Melanie's words, Brock replied, "Melanie, I'm fine, don't worry!" After speaking, Brock glanced over at Dr. Bill, who was still talking non-stop.

After a while, once the group had finished eating, Ash asked Dr. Bill, "Dr. Bill, do you have a phone here? I'd like to make a call."

Hearing Ash, Dr. Bill replied, "Yes, I do! It's over there." Dr. Bill pointed towards the direction of a telephone booth. Hearing Dr. Bill, Ash prepared to run off to the phone booth to make his call.

Seeing Ash about to go make a call, Brock asked curiously, "Ash, who are you going to call?"

Hearing Brock, Ash replied, "I need to call Professor Oak, to see if the Krabby I caught got transferred back okay." After speaking, Ash ran off to make the call.
